In the mood for love

India Today3 days ago
N o reels were shot. No interviews given. No city tours or visits to malls and colleges. Relying on its ballad-heavy soundtrack and the track record of director Mohit Suri (who has done most of the pre-release heavy lifting), a romantic drama featuring two newcomers—Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda—has sprung out of nowhere to create a mini tremor at the box office. Opening day collections? Rs 21.5 crore. Doubts about the figure being inflated or fudged were abound, but by the weekend of July 18, nobody could deny that Saiyaara, a new film about a young couple whose love is challenged when one of them develops early-onset Alzheimer's, is a smash hit. Rs 83 crore in three days! Records have already piled up: biggest opening weekend for a film featuring rookies, biggest opening for a romantic film in Indian cinema... With week one set to easily cross the Rs 150 crore mark, the film is destined to enter the Rs 300 crore club. That these numbers come at a time when the love story was deemed a deadbeat genre on the big screen has made this accomplishment all the more impressive.

'If he was at my home...', Jaya Bachchan once wanted to slap Shah Rukh Khan because of Aishwarya Rai, the reason was... Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai are the two most iconic stars in Indian cinema, known for their impeccable talent and fascinating collaboration. The two shard unforgettable on-screen chemistry in films like Josh (2000) and Devdas (2002). However, after that, they eventually had a dramatic fallout that became a topic of intrigue among fans and media. In early 2000s, their relationship took a surprising turn and even led Jaya Bachchan to intervene and express her anger publicly. In early 2000s, Despite Aishwarya Rai collaborating with Shah Rukh Khan in two films, she was removed from several projects with him, including Chalte Chalte and Veer Zaara. Addressing the fallout, Aishwarya expressed that it impacted her career, though Shah Rukh later offered an apology, and things eventually sorted out. However, the matter didn't just stay between Shah Rukh and Aishwarya- it also caused ripples within the Bachchan family. In a 2008 interview with People Magazine, Jaya Bachchan expressed her disappointment for remarks SRK made on Aishwarya. Expressing her feelings, the veteran actor said, 'Of course, I do. I haven't had the opportunity to discuss it with him and I am going to speak to him about it. If he was at my home, I would have slapped him, just as I would my own son. But I have connected with him in my soul, and that's it.' Despite being angry, she admitted, 'I have a weakness for Shah Rukh.' Shah Rukh Khan's absence at Aishwarya and Abhishek's wedding in 2007 also caused rumours of lingering tensions. Reports claim, that there weren't on talking terms after their infamous fallout on the sets of Chalte Chalte. Jaya Bachchan candidly responded to this, 'Is Aishwarya going to invite him for the wedding? Let me tell you, very honestly, if we could have invited him, we would have changed the date of the wedding. I would like to give my family the freedom and the space.'

A source told Bollywood Hungama, 'Aneet is a big screen heroine for YRF. Nyaya was shot before she signed Saiyaara and it has no bearing on her career trajectory as a theatrical heroine going forward. A girl who is delivering probably a Rs. 400 crores hit in theatres, is a true Gen Z star at the age of just 22, will be preserved for theatricals. There are huge plans to make her the face of a generation and that can be achieved only by consolidating her theatrical equity.' STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD About Fatima Sana Shaikh In an EXCLUSIVE interview with Firstpost, when Fatima Sana Shaikh too spoke on gender pay gap and for things to change, audiences need to accept women led films. She said, 'Finally, there are women who are asking for what they deserve, and that is commendable because to voice it and to even receive that was like a dream. And, you know, these are the women like Deepika Padukone who are paving paths for us so that tomorrow when we are in that position, we won't obviously think twice to get our due.' On working with Anurag Basu I didn't get to interact with other characters a lot. I largely interacted with Sara Khan and Ali Fazal that you've seen in the trailer also. So, I didn't unfortunately get to share the screen with all of these other actors that I'm a huge fan of. The best thing about Anurag (dada) is that you are not bound by the script and you know what you're getting into. So, you learn a lot when you go to the set. Even if there is a climax scene, even if there is a hectic scene, you come to know about it in the morning. And you just go with the flow. Whatever comes on your way, you just figure it out. You try to be as honest as possible. And that's what we all did, and there is, you know, significant fun in that too.
