Rubber Market Closes Lower On Profit-taking

KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian rubber market closed lower on Monday, in tandem with regional rubber futures markets, amid profit-taking that triggered a short-term pullback, a dealer said.
The dealer said that market sentiment was further dampened by weaker economic data from China.
'Nevertheless, further losses were capped by gains in crude oil prices and a shortage of natural rubber due to persistent rain in major producing countries,' she told Bernama.
At 4.47 pm, Brent crude oil gained by 0.48 per cent to US$68.75 per barrel.
The dealer also noted that market players were cautious ahead of the Federal Reserve meeting and the outcome of the renewed United States (US)-China trade negotiations.
'The US and China are expected to extend their tariff truce by an additional 90 days during trade talks starting Monday in Stockholm.
'Meanwhile, the temporary suspension of most tariffs, agreed in May, is due to expire on Aug 15, 2025,' she added.
Additionally, the dealer noted that the US has paused restrictions on technology exports to China in an effort to advance trade agreements with the country.

Tengku Zafrul officially joins PKR

OSAKA: Tengku Datuk Seri Zafru Abdul Azizl is now officially a PKR member. The Investment, Trade and Industry Minister confirmed that the party had accepted his membership application. He is now a member of the Ampang PKR division. 'I can confirm that I have applied (to join) the party and I have informed the secretary-general on the matter,' he said when met by the Malaysian media at the Malaysia Pavilion in World Expo 2025. Asked if his membership application had been accepted, Tengku Zafrul answered in the affirmative. 'Yes,' he said, adding that his membership was approved following the party's leadership council meeting about two weeks ago. In May, Tengku Zafrul submitted his resignation letter as an Umno supreme council member, Kota Raja division chief and as a party member. He then said that he would begin the application process of being a PKR member and had expressed the intention to the PKR president. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is PKR president. Tengku Zafrul's departure from Umno comes just days after two PKR stalwarts – Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad – had resigned as Economy Minister and Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister, respectively. Rafizi had lost his deputy presidency in the PKR party elections, while Nik Nazmi lost his position as vice-president. Tengku Zafrul had quit as Selangor Umno treasurer in April last year, and speculation has been rife since late last year that he would leave the party to join PKR.

Bursa Malaysia Publicly Reprimands MCOM For Failing To Submit Audited Financials

BUSINESS KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd (Bursa Malaysia) has publicly reprimanded MCOM Holdings Bhd for failing to announce its annual audited financial statements (AFS) for the 18-month financial period ended June 30, 2024, by the Oct 31, 2024 deadline. Bursa Malaysia said MCOM was found in breach of LEAP Market listing requirements (LEAP LR) for not issuing the audited financial statements together with the auditors' and directors' reports within the stipulated timeframe. 'As of now, MCOM has yet to announce the AFS 2024,' it said in a stock exchange filing. 'Bursa Malaysia views the breach seriously as timely submission of financial statements is a fundamental obligation of listed companies and of paramount importance in ensuring an orderly and fair market for securities traded on Bursa Malaysia Securities and is necessary to aid informed investment decisions,' it said. The stock exchange regulator noted that MCOM attributed the delay to insufficient and inexperienced accounting staff, high turnover, and the resignation of its external auditors on Oct 29, 2024, over unsettled audit fees. "These reasons do not justify the delay, as all listed companies are required to have the necessary funds and resources, including sufficient and available finance and accounting staff, to prepare their financial statements and ensure compliance with the listing requirements. 'MCOM also failed to demonstrate reasonable efforts, including paying the outstanding audit fees to the external auditors, to enable the commencement of the audit and the issuance of the AFS 2024 by the due date,' it said. Bursa Malaysia said that de-listing procedures have been initiated against MCOM, but it has 'decided to defer the de-listing on the condition that the company announces the AFS 2024 on or before Aug 31, 2025, as represented by MCOM.' The extension also took into account that MCOM had appointed a new auditor on May 21, 2025, it added. -- BERNAMA
