Internet puzzled at Ranveer Allahbadia discussing India-Pak conflict on Piers Morgan's show: ‘What are his credentials?'

Hindustan Times13-05-2025

YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia was invited by British journalist Piers Morgan at a robust debate along with Indian journalist Barkha Dutt, former Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Hina Rabbani Khar and Shehzad Ghias Shaikh from The Pakistan Experience, to discuss ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. However, the internet could not fathom Ranveer's presence at the show questioning his credentials to talk about geo politics.

Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as Beer Biceps, addressed the India-Pakistan conflict on Piers Morgan Uncensored, where he showed images of Osama bin Laden and Hafiz Abdul Rauf to highlight differing narratives and emphasise India's non-aggressive stance in the region.
Calling India's attacks as 'precision-oriented, moderated, and a retaliation', Beer Biceps said India has never been 'an aggressor in any of these situations." "We export vaccines, philosophy, engineers and leaders to the world – which is why our economy is eleven times the economy of Pakistan," he added.
He then questioned Piers Morgan back and asked what he felt about the situation. 'India has a list of people just like this man,' he said, again picking up Laden's photo.
Piers also questioned Ranveer about a now-deleted social media post of his in which Ranveer referred to Pakistanis as "brothers and sisters" following the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people.
Replying to the allegations, Ranveer said, 'I deleted it because Pakistan had just broken the ceasefire and gave us another reason to not trust the entire state once again. Even if you try to have a conversation with Pakistan, it responds with 'where's the proof of the Pahalgam attack?''
While some fans appreciated Ranveer's immaculate presentation, others were quick to question his qualification to be speaking about India-Pakistan politics on social media. One user commented, 'Who invited him to that show? What are his credentials for speaking on geopolitical issues? How much was paid for that seat on the table?'. Another user said, 'Beer biceps for a discussion like this is just diabolical.'
One user wrote, 'When a YouTuber is enough to take on Ex Foreign Minister and a career politician. lol.' Another user commented, 'Out of all in India you had beer biceps to rep India….fml'. Another user pointed out, 'Bringing in BeerBiceps as some kind of a representative for India was a new low for Piers Morgan which is saying something. He has no qualification to be speaking about geopolitics and there is no good reason for having him on."
In February, Ranveer found himself entangled in a controversy after appearing in an episode of comedian Samay Raina's show India's Got Latent, which also featured Apoorva Mukhija and Ashish Chanchlani. On the show, Ranveer asked a contestant, "Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once to make it stop forever?" The remark received intense backlash, followed by multiple FIRs against the makers and those present on the show. In an apology video on X, Ranveer admitted that his comment was not only inappropriate but also not funny. He also submitted a written apology to the NCW over his offensive remarks made on the show.

Housefull 5 box office Day 2: Akshay's film off to a flyer, crosses Rs 50 crore

Released on June 6, the film opened with a strong Rs 24 crore. However, it's the Day 2 numbers that truly turned to industry tracker 'Housefull 5' earned approximately Rs 30 crore nett on Day 2, marking a significant 25 percent jump from its opening day collections. With this, the film's total earnings have surged past Rs 50 crore, currently standing at an estimated Rs 54 crore. In comparison, its predecessor, 'Housefull 4' crossed the Rs 50-crore milestone only on its third Day 2, the film recorded an overall Hindi occupancy rate of 37.97 percent, with the highest footfall observed during the night shows. 'Housefull 5' also outperformed Akshay Kumar's January release 'Sky Force' (Rs 11.50 crore nett) and last year's Bollywood blockbuster 'Fighter' (Rs 22.50 crore nett) in terms of opening day by Sajid Nadiadwala's banner, Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, the film boasts an ensemble cast featuring Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Fardeen Khan, Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Today Digital's review of 'Housefull 5' notes, 'The good thing about 'Housefull 5' is that it looks like a nice commercial entertaining package. But, it's not for everyone's taste. The cringe comedy, where creepy men are lusting over women's bodies and making jokes out of beating birds and monkeys, does not make for very heartening humour. It also feels artificial at one point, as if the audience is being forced to throw a chuckle here and there.' IN THIS STORY#Akshay Kumar#Abhishek Bachchan#Riteish Deshmukh#Sanjay Dutt

Nepal ex-PM under fire for alleged corruption over Patanjali-linked land deal, fined $1 million

Authorities in Nepal have charged former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal with corruption and demanded a million-dollar fine over the purchase of land by a firm owned by Indian yoga guru Baba Ramdev, a court official said on Friday. Nepal, prime minister between 2009 and 2011, faces charges of allowing Patanjali Yogpeeth Nepal company to purchase more land than it was legally allowed to own for herb production, processing and a hospital in the Himalayan nation 15 years ago. Both Nepal and Patanjali Yogpeeth deny any wrongdoing. The 72-year-old Nepal heads a small opposition group in parliament and his United Socialist Party says the prosecution is an act of "political vendetta" against him. "I have not done anything illegal nor indulged in any corruption concerning Patanjali land deal causing any loss to the state," Nepal told the Kantipur daily newspaper. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), a corruption watchdog, alleged that some of the land, in Kavre district, was later allowed to be swapped with other land, or sold at a higher price, causing a loss to the state. The allegations were set out in a charge sheet filed by the commission on Thursday at the Special Court in Kathmandu. The commission demanded Nepal be ordered to pay a fine of 185.85 million Nepali rupees ($1.35 million). If found guilty, he could also be sentenced to up to 17 years in jail. A spokesperson for Patanjali in India denied any wrongdoing, saying it bought the land privately through due legal process. "Patanjali has not acquired any government land. It is unfair to drag our name in local political vendetta actions and proceedings," S K Tijarawala, Patanjali's spokesperson, told Reuters in a text message. The commission also charged 92 others, including some former ministers and officials, some of whom are already dead. Yaga Raj Regmi, information officer of the court, said Nepal would receive a formal court notice giving him 15 days in which to present himself at court and the hearing would start after that.

D Gukesh's ‘favourite moment' from Norway Chess 2025 floors Magnus Carlsen: ‘That one definitely stands out'

D Gukesh might have failed to win the Norway Chess 2025 after falling agonisingly short but the Indian Grandmaster managed to hold onto his sense of humour. His display of wit even stumped World No.1 Magnus Carlsen as the Norwegian couldn't help but smile. During an event on the sidelines of the Norway Chess 2025, D Gukesh was asked to name his favourite moment of the tournament. It was then that the 19-year-old did not hesitate and answered, "Beating Magnus." The response drew laughter from the crowd. Carlsen who was seen seated in the audience, also failed to hide his smile. Carlsen was also asked the same question and he echoed the answer given by Gukesh. "I think it's the same. I mean, there were a lot of great moments in the tournament, but that one definitely stands out," he stated. In Round Six, Gukesh came from behind to stun Magnus Carlsen, registering his first-ever Classical win over the World No.1. After the loss, Carlsen failed to control his emotions as he banged the table before congratulating Gukesh and patting his back. However, despite this upset, Carlsen claimed the Norway Chess title for the seventh time in his career. This win was made possible by a dramatic final-round match against Arjun Erigaisi. Carlsen's final-round draw against Erigaisi was enough for him to edge out both Gukesh and Fabiano Caruana. Heading into the last round, Gukesh trailed Carlsen by just half a point. Erigaisi also managed to keep the World No.1 in check. However, Carlsen showed his class as he made a memorable comeback in the last six moves. In the end, Carlsen agreed to a draw by threefold repetition, which sealed his win in the tournament. The title would have been decided by two Armageddon games if Gukesh was able to secure a draw against Caruana in their classical encounter. However, Gukesh's error on move 48 cost him dearly. This mistake caused Gukesh to slip from second place, which was eventually claimed by Caruana.
