Mbappe penalty earns Real 1-0 win over stubborn Osasuna

MADRID, Aug 19 (Reuters) - Kylian Mbappe's second-half penalty earned Real Madrid a hard-fought 1-0 home victory over Osasuna in their opening LaLiga game of the season on Tuesday, giving Xabi Alonso a winning start in his first league match in charge of the hosts. After struggling to break down a stubborn Osasuna defence in the opening half, Mbappe won the penalty and converted from the spot six minutes after the break to give Real the lead. Real continued to push forward in search of more goals, but were unable to increase their lead, while Osasuna could have netted a shock equaliser close to the end when Ante Budimir headed over from close range. The visitors had Abel Bretones sent off in added time for a foul off the ball on Gonzalo Garcia as Alonso's side got their league campaign off to a winning, but underwhelming start as they look to wrestle back the league title from Barcelona.

NFL sleuths make shock discovery about Madison Beer and Justin Herbert's romance… and why it's good for the Chargers

NFL fans believe Madison Beer and Justin Herbert may have started dating as far back as December. That's because they have unearthed a picture of the singer, 26, at a Los Angeles Chargers game on December 19. She was at SoFi Stadium to watch her rumored beau in a Thursday Night Football game between the Chargers and Denver Broncos. Those same fans also noticed just how impressive Herbert played that night, with some claiming he was out to impress the pop star. Against one of the NFL's meanest defenses, Herbert completed 23 of his 31 passes for 284 yards, two touchdowns and an interception as the Charges won 34-27. There was one particular highlight, which saw him make a ridiculous throw and lead Los Angeles to 15 points in the fourth quarter. Fans believe Herbert was 'showing off' in that game and they 'need her to attend every game' Upon discovering she was at the game and watching Herbert's highlights, Chargers fans now want her there more often as the new season approaches. One commented: 'Demon showing off lmao. Gonna need her to attend every game I fear.' Another said: 'Bro about to turn into MVP Lamar (Jackson) this year,' referencing the outstanding Baltimore Ravens quarterback. One quipped the Chargers are 'gonna need her in Brazil', referencing their Week 1 game in Sao Paulo against the Kansas City Chiefs. Another bold predicted with Beer watching on, the 'Super Bowl is a lock' and 'Herbert is winning MVP'. Attention was drawn to Beer and Herbert's potential relationship this week when he was spotted on the set of her latest music video on Sunday. The 6ft 6 quarterback, who was once NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, towered over 5ft 6 Beer, who was wearing angel wings as part of the production in Los Angeles. She was spotted at a house in Hancock Park, where the shoot ran throughout the day, wearing what appeared to be a nightshirt. Madison posed with a heart locket and a tiny heart ring. Later she introduced Herbert to various crew members before they left together in Herbert's car. The singer and Los Angeles Chargers quarterback were pictured chatting between filming Beer has previously dated TikTok star Nick Austin and briefly David Beckham's son Brooklyn Beer, 26, shot to fame in recent years after Justin Bieber shared one of her covers on YouTube and she has since gone on to become a household name. Beer, who has previously dated TikTok star Nick Austin and briefly David Beckham's son Brooklyn, has 20.5million TikTok and 40.1m Instagram followers. The singer's latest album, MB3, is set to be released later this year. Herbert was drafted by the Chargers with the sixth overall pick in 2020. He went on to win that year's Offensive Rookie of the Year prize. He signed a five-year contract worth $262.5m in 2023 but has only made the playoffs twice in five seasons, owing to being in the same division as the Kansas City Chiefs.

What are the betting trends in the Premier League Outright Winner market following the weekend's fixtures? Sky Bet odds revealed

The first matchday of the 2025-26 Premier League season is now in the history books - with some blistering performances, major upsets and everything in between. Although one round of matches don't define a season - there has already been some movement in the betting lines with Sky Bet across a number of their outright markets. With that in mind - let's take a look at the betting trends in the Premier League Outright Winner market since the weekend's fixtures. Liverpool Liverpool remain the best-backed with Sky Bet to win consecutive Premier League titles - with Arne Slot's side priced at 7/4. The Reds went into a 2-0 lead against Bournemouth in the season opener at Anfield - with goals to newcomer Hugo Ekitike and Cody Gakpo. However, while they looked fantastic going forward, it was their holes defensively that were of concern. The Cherries ultimately took advantage of Liverpool's inconsistency at the back to level it at 2-2, before a pair of goals to Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah in the dying stages helped the hosts secure a 4-2 victory. Arsenal Meanwhile, Arsenal are 15/8 second-favourites despite an unconvincing showing against Manchester United at Old Trafford. The Gunners held on in enemy territory to win 1-0 - however - they found themselves on the back foot for much of the game. Star signing Viktor Gyokeres failed to impress in his debut for the north London club, with the Swede recording 21 touches and completing just four of nine passes. Additionally, the 26-year-old lost possession 11 times and failed to register a single shot on target. With so much made in the offseason of Arsenal's desperate need for a striker - is Gyokeres the right man to help the Gunners challenge for a title? We will have to wait to find out. Manchester City The most impressive showing of the top five league favourites was undoubtedly Manchester City - who cruised to a 4-0 victory against Wolves at Molineux Stadium. In what was a very promising sign for the Sky Blues - both their longstanding superstars and highly-touted signings made an impact. Erling Haaland scored a brace - which marked the Norwegian's fourth straight season in which he has found the back of the net on the Premier League's opening day. Meanwhile, new recruits Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki also got on the scoresheet. For those anticipating Pep Guardiola's side to prove too strong once again this season, they are 11/4 third-favourites to claim their fifth title in six seasons. Chelsea Chelsea kickstarted their campaign with a disappointing 0-0 draw at home against London rivals Crystal Palace. Despite boasting 72 percent of possession - Cole Palmer and Co only managed to register three shots on target. That's a far cry from the Chelsea side we saw in the Club World Cup final - who managed to thump Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain 3-0. If you're of the belief that their performance on Sunday will be an anomaly in an otherwise fantastic season - the Blues are fourth in the market at 9/1 to be crowned champions. Manchester United Ruben Amorim's side have shortened from 33/1 to 25/1 with Sky Bet following an inspired outing against Arsenal. As mentioned earlier in the article - the Red Devils can take plenty of confidence from their 1-0 loss to the Gunners. Amorim will be particularly pleased with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo - who looked dangerous from start to finish in their Man United league debut. United return to action this Sunday - as they go head-to-head with Fulham away from home. Tottenham Hotspur Spurs have had no movement in the betting lines since the start of the season - with Thomas Frank's side still priced at 40/1. They secured the three points comfortably at home over the weekend - with a Richarlison brace and another goal to Brennan Johnson helping the north London club to a 3-0 victory. Despite such a dominant win - it shouldn't come as a surprise they haven't received much interest in the market given it came against a recently promoted side. Football fans will have a great opportunity this weekend to see how competitive Tottenham will be this season when they clash with Manchester City at the Etihad. Newcastle Of the top ten contenders - Newcastle have widened the most according to Sky Bet. The Magpies were as short as 28/1 a fortnight ago to win their first title of the Premier League era - however - they have blown out to 66/1. That's in large part thanks to the turmoil off the pitch - with their superstar striker Alexander Isak refusing to train or play with the squad. Isak has made it known that he desires to leave the club - with Liverpool his preferred destination. However - Newcastle have rejected Liverpool's bid of £110 million, with Newcastle's owners believed to be valuing the striker at a figure closer to £150 million. Isak's omission from Newcastle's opening game of the season proved crucial - as they struggled upfront en route to a drab 0-0 draw against Aston Villa. Sky Bet favourites to win the 2025-26 Premier League: Liverpool 7/4 Arsenal 15/8 Manchester City 11/4 Chelsea 9/1 Manchester United 25/1 Tottenham 40/1 Newcastle 66/1
