Farage slams secret Afghan refugee resettlement to UK, claims sex offenders among arrivals

Fox News2 days ago
Nigel Farage, the leader of the right-wing Reform UK party, slammed the Conservative and Labour parties after it was revealed this week thousands of Afghan refugees were secretly resettled into the country without the public's knowledge.
Farage claimed some of those Afghans are sex offenders, sparking a row with the ruling Labour Party, which denied the claims.
Around 4,500 Afghans have been relocated to the U.K. so far with around 6,900 expected to be relocated overall.
Meanwhile, waves of migrants continue arriving by boat, further inflaming public frustration over unchecked immigration.
"Amongst the number that have come are convicted sex offenders – I am not, I promise you, making any of this up, and the total cost of this operation has been a staggering £7 billion [$9 billion]," Farage said in a post on X.
"The numbers are off the charts, the cost is beyond comprehension and the threat to women walking the streets of this country, frankly, is incalculable."
Relocating the 6,900 Afghans is expected to cost £850 million [$1.1 billion]. The £7 billion Farage referenced is likely the total cost of all Afghan resettlement programs since 2021 of about 36,000 Afghans through multiple schemes.
The British government earlier this week revealed it secretly resettled thousands of Afghan nationals in the U.K. after a catastrophic data breach exposed nearly 19,000 applicants who had worked with U.K. forces, an operation kept under wraps by a rare "super injunction" that barred even the mention of its existence.
The injunction was lifted Tuesday in conjunction with a decision by Britain's current Labour Party government to make the program public.
A spreadsheet containing the personal information of the nearly 19,000 people who had applied to relocate to the U.K. after the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan was accidentally released in 2022 because of a defense official's email error. The government only became aware of the leak when some of the data was published on Facebook 18 months later.
"I can't think of a better example of the total incompetence, dishonesty and genuine lack of understanding of what the priorities of a British government are than this Afghan scandal," Farage added.
But U.K. Defense Secretary John Healey denied any known sex offenders had been allowed into the U.K. under the program and insisted everyone had been checked "carefully" for any criminal records
He said if Farage had any "hard evidence," he should report it to the police.
"Anyone who has come into this country under any of the government schemes that was under the previous government and now from Afghanistan is checked carefully for security, checked carefully for any of those sort of criminal records that would preclude and prevent them coming to this country," Healey told Times Radio, according to The Sun.
British soldiers were sent to Afghanistan as part of an international deployment against al Qaeda and Taliban forces in the war on terror after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. At the peak of the operation, there were almost 10,000 U.K. troops in the country, mostly in Helmand province in the south.

Kosovo's Leader Signals End to Deadlock With Possible Coalition

Kosovo's prime minister opened the door to a power-sharing agreement with a small opposition party as pressure mounts to break a political deadlock that's left the country without a functioning parliament for nearly four months. 'We've expressed our interest and readiness to co-govern with the Social Democratic Initiative,' Albin Kurti said Monday during a press conference, confirming he made a concrete offer during a weekend meeting. But he said talks are still ongoing, declining to elaborate on details.

How U.S. Immigration Policy Is Reshaping Mexico's Manufacturing Sector

Jorge Gonzalez Henrichsen, Head of Business Development and Co-CEO at The Nearshore Company. If there's one thing the past few months have made clear, it's this: U.S. immigration policy doesn't just affect the U.S.—it reverberates throughout the entire North American labor ecosystem. And for Mexico, that means real changes in workforce availability, skill composition and long-term nearshoring strategy. As someone who's spent the past two decades helping companies navigate manufacturing expansion into Mexico, I do see what's happening on the ground—and I believe there's a story here worth paying attention to. A Silver Lining In Today's Landscape Recent changes in U.S. immigration enforcement have led to an increase in deportations and a decline in unlawful border crossings. That reality is displacing many foreign-born workers, many of whom are from Mexico and had been living and working in the U.S. Where do they go? For many, the answer is simple: back to Mexico. And while I wouldn't go so far as to say they're all heading straight into manufacturing jobs, a portion of this returning workforce—particularly those with basic education or technical skills—are likely to be absorbed by Mexico's growing manufacturing industry. For years, many people in Mexico looked north to the U.S. as an opportunity for upward mobility. But today, with legal paths narrowing and risk rising, many are choosing to stay and find work in Mexico. That shift is subtle, but powerful. It's keeping more skilled workers in Mexico, where they're now in high demand. The Rise Of The Middle-Skill Workforce In manufacturing, the biggest labor bottleneck isn't always engineering talent or PhDs. In my experience, it's what we call 'middle-skill' workers, such as machine operators and supervisors. Roughly 130,000 students graduate each year from technical and engineering programs in Mexico, according to a TechCrunch article. These could be some of the very people who once saw emigration to the U.S. as a sure path to prosperity. Today, however, that equation is shifting. Mexico's domestic job market is heating up—driven by nearshoring, U.S. trade policy and shifting supply chains—and that's creating stronger incentives to build a career at home. Why It Matters Now Since early April, when new tariffs and trade realignments were announced in the U.S., we've spoken with many manufacturers from the U.S., Asia and even Europe who are re-evaluating Mexico as a central node in their supply chain strategy. That renewed attention brings opportunity—but it also brings pressure. Mexico must be ready, and that means understanding the talent landscape as it evolves in real time. There's a temptation to frame Mexico as the U.S.'s 'backyard'—a place for outsourced labor and low-cost fulfillment. But I've come to embrace the metaphor in a different way: Every well-functioning home needs a clean, efficient, well-organized backyard. The tools, the storage, the space—it all matters. And right now, I believe Mexico is positioned to play a pivotal and high-capacity role in North America's industrial landscape, though there are a few best practices manufacturers will need to keep in mind. A Few Words Of Advice For manufacturers looking to expand into Mexico, make sure you don't take action blindly. Workforce availability is improving, yes, but it's still regionally uneven. Consider your site selection carefully. Look to regions with strong technical education pipelines and infrastructure. And make sure your strategy includes not just labor cost savings but also long-term talent development. The immigration debate in the U.S. will continue, but in the meantime, the ripple effects are creating new possibilities on Mexico's side of the border. For those of us paying attention, that's more than a headline—it's an opportunity to plan, build and move forward.
