Aerospace, aviation booths prove a crowd puller
MELAKA: The aerospace and aviation booths have become a crowd puller at the 2025 National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Day celebration, which kicked off yesterday.
Over 20 booths related to the field attracted interest from various groups, including individuals without backgrounds in science, engineering, or technology, during the three-day programme held at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) here.
Visitor Iqbal Ahmad Shukri, 20, said the booths provided insightful information and exposure, enhancing public understanding of TVET and showcasing available pathways to anyone interested in exploring them.
The Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) undergraduate majoring in Islamic Finance and Banking said despite his non-technical field of study, the variety of booths at the event helped him gain a deeper appreciation for the development and impact of technology, especially in the aviation sector.
'For example, the booth featuring flight simulation provided us with a hands-on experience that ignited our interest in aviation. It not only informed us how to become pilots but also highlighted other aviation-related careers that many may never have considered,' he told Bernama.
His friend, Muhammad Ikmal Tamimi Jamaludin, 21, said such programmes enhance his learning as a Technology Management student.
'Here, I can see the direction and potential of my course. More importantly, I now better understand what I've been learning, as my course includes subjects like electrical studies, information technology, and engineering – all of which are closely related to TVET,' he said.
Admal Aviation College's Student Recruitment Officer, Mohammad Rizal Zalkaply, said large-scale programmes like this could create more opportunities for students, especially SPM school leavers, to explore further education in fields that are often less popular.
'Many want to enter into aviation but lack access to information and are often concerned about the costs involved in pursuing such studies. However, programmes like this provide an excellent platform to raise awareness among students about opportunities they may not have been previously aware of.
'For us exhibitors, this is also a great opportunity to share information about the many pathways available through TVET-related courses,' he added.

MELAKA, June 13 (Bernama) -- An additional allocation of RM10 million for the development of the Technical and Vocational Training (TVET) programme in Melaka is seen as opening up more opportunities and space for the state government to strengthen the field. Deputy Exco for Investment, Industry and TVET Development Datuk Khaidhirah Abu Zahar said it would be the best platform for the state government which aims to make Melaka the national TVET centre in the future. "Alhamdulillah, we are very grateful to the federal government for the additional allocation and it will be used to drive the development of TVET education in Melaka. "This is among the efforts to open up more space for local children or those from outside Melaka to access TVET education in Melaka itself since it is among the state government's targets to make Melaka the national TVET education centre," he told Bernama. Earlier, Bernama reported that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced an additional allocation of RM40 million to the National TVET Council and RM10 million to the Melaka government, specifically to strengthen the development of TVET entrepreneurship. The announcement was made when he officiated the National TVET Day 2025 at Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC), Ayer Keroh yesterday. Meanwhile, Khaidhirah, who is also the chairman of Melaka TVET Council Working Committee, said the additional funds would also be a platform for the Melaka TVET Council and the Melaka TVET Working Committee to further strengthen the network of cooperation with more stakeholders in TVET includes institutions, NGOs and government agencies. Meanwhile, commenting on the National TVET Day 2025 which ended today, he said the programme successfully achieved its target with the presence of more than 120,000 visitors, thus giving an impression that the TVET field is increasingly gaining ground among students and is used as a platform to build a career in the future. "We are targeting at least 100,000 visitors and Alhamdulillah, for today (the last day) the number has exceeded the target, which is more than 120,000 as of noon today," he said.

Budding technopreneurs have govt's full support, says Zahid
MELAKA: Students undertaking Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) should consider becoming technopreneurs, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The Deputy Prime Minister said TVET offers promising opportunities in the entrepreneurship sector. Government support is essential in realising such potential, he said. 'We are grateful for the growing trust of parents (in TVET) today. That is why we must find new ways to nurture and transform the mindset of TVET students into future technopreneurs.' Ahmad Zahid said to date, TVET institutions under Majlis Amanah Rakyat have produced 50 TVET millionaires. Speaking at the 2025 National TVET Day celebration, he said as Malaysia moves towards becoming a developed nation, the involvement of all parties in driving the country's progress must be properly coordinated. This is especially to help groups that are often seen as marginalised within the country's education system, he said. 'For instance, the National TVET Council has taken the responsibility to recruit huffaz students to join TVET so that their future can be better secured,' he said, Bernama reported. The Deputy Prime Minister cited examples, including huffaz students enrolled at Universiti Kuala Lumpur's aerospace and maritime affairs faculties as well as at Universiti Tenaga Nasional. 'The response has been quite good (from the huffaz) and we welcome their contributions to building this country,' he said.

Strengthening TVET reforms with commission set-up
MELAKA: A proposal to set up a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) commission is being mulled, in line with the broader TVET reform agenda, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The Prime Minister said the recommendation emerged from impressive achievements under the National TVET Council chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, including a notable rise in student participation. 'I appreciate the council's work and as someone monitoring progress first-hand, there are proposals worth considering, among them establishing a commission for TVET. 'We shall assess how swiftly this can be implemented given current developments,' he said when launching the National TVET Day 2025 celebration. 'With the number of students and types of training increasing, I will look into whether current facilities are adequate and how to create synergy between government-linked companies, private sector players and existing TVET institutions.' The Prime Minister also underscored TVET's pivotal role in creating a skilled workforce capable of meeting future industrial needs. He said TVET graduates deserve a better starting salary, reflecting their skills and strong employability. 'Previously, we set the minimum wage at RM1,700. But for TVET fields with employment rates of up to 98%, such a salary is inadequate. 'We aim to increase the starting pay to RM3,000 where feasible,' he said, adding the adjustment would reflect deserved recognition by multinational and local companies. Anwar also said an additional RM40mil has been announced for the National TVET Council, along with RM10mil in aid for Melaka's TVET entrepreneurship initiatives. 'It is crucial for students to seize this opportunity to contribute to national development. 'Unlike many of our neighbours, Malaysia is one of the few nations that provides such strong support, financial and otherwise, for TVET students,' said the Prime Minister. The three-day National TVET Day includes nine sectoral exhibitions ranging from transportation, aerospace and electronics to agriculture, construction and services, with over 60 employers offering some 5,000 job opportunities.
