Chelsea Make History With Conference League Triumph, Win All European Trophies
Last Updated:
Chelsea became the first club to win all five UEFA trophies after clinching the Conference League trophy with a 4-1 victory over Real Betis.
Chelsea surged back to defeat Real Betis 4-1 in the UEFA Conference League final held in Wroclaw on Wednesday, becoming the first club to achieve a clean sweep of European trophies.
Manuel Pellegrini's dynamic Betis surprised the favourites with an early goal from Abde Ezzalzouli, capitalising on a sluggish Chelsea side.
However, Enzo Maresca's second-half substitutions brought energy, and Cole Palmer transformed the game within five minutes, assisting Enzo Fernandez and Nicolas Jackson to score.
Substitute Jadon Sancho secured the victory in the 83rd minute as Betis, in their first European final, weakened, and Moises Caicedo added the final touch to the scoreline.
Chelsea is the first club to win all five UEFA club tournaments: the Champions League, Europa League, Conference League, Super Cup, and the now-defunct Cup Winners' Cup.
This marks their first silverware since Todd Boehly's consortium took over from Roman Abramovich in 2022, following an era of unprecedented success for the club.
Boehly celebrated on the pitch, savouring the win that seemed improbable when Betis controlled the first half.
Maresca, in his debut season at Stamford Bridge, expressed hope that the Conference League victory would be a starting point for the club.
'The club has invested heavily in the last few years, so they are also anticipating results," Maresca told TNT Sports. 'Hopefully, this can be a launchpad for building something significant."
Betis went ahead in the ninth minute through Ezzalzouli, who scored the decisive goal against Fiorentina to reach the final.
Malo Gusto lost possession, allowing Betis captain Isco to deliver a clever pass to Ezzalzouli, who drilled a left-footed shot across Filip Jorgensen.
Minutes later, Marc Bartra attempted a long-range shot, but Jorgensen made a spectacular save.
Encouraged by their enthusiastic fans, Betis nearly scored again when Johnny Cardoso's shot from inside the box was deflected behind.
Despite enjoying most of the possession, Chelsea struggled to create meaningful chances, with Betis defending well and Isco, a five-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid, dictating play.
Maresca replaced Gusto with James at the break, which revitalised Chelsea.
Pellegrini was forced to substitute Ezzalzouli with Jesus Rodriguez.
Maresca made several other changes, including bringing on Sancho, but Palmer's brilliance changed the course of the match.
Palmer's precise inswinging cross from the right found Fernandez, who headed the ball past Adrian in the 65th minute.
Chelsea's momentum surged, and their fans roared with excitement.
Five minutes later, Palmer delivered another superb cross that Jackson bundled into the net.
Jackson missed a second goal due to a heavy touch, allowing the Betis goalkeeper to gather.
Sancho combined with fellow substitute Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to make it 3-1, and Caicedo added a fourth from the edge of the box.
Chelsea's victory ends an impressive streak of Spanish team wins. In the last 27 men's finals involving Spanish teams, all had Spanish winners, with Spanish club sides only defeated by fellow La Liga teams.
Earlier, the center of Wroclaw was filled with fans from both clubs, with Betis supporters outnumbering Chelsea fans.
Poland's Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak reported that police made 28 arrests following clashes in the city's market square.

Tennis-Roland Garros bracing for bizarre Saturday as Champions League final looms
PARIS, - Roland Garros is bracing for a surreal Saturday evening when the biggest noise around the French Open might come not from the courts, but from the nearby Parc des Princes, where tens of thousands of Paris St Germain fans will gather to watch their team contest the Champions League final against Inter Milan. Some 40,000 PSG supporters are expected to watch a screening at their home stadium, 750 metres from the French Open grounds, where around 15,000 tennis fans will fill Court Philippe-Chatrier for the night session starting at 2000 local time. With the Champions League final kicking off at 2100, authorities are bracing for both sets of spectators to spill out onto the streets of western Paris around the same time — a potential flashpoint in a city still on edge after PSG's semi-final victory over Arsenal earlier this month sparked looting and clashes with police. French Open tournament director Amelie Mauresmo said organisers were in close coordination with police to ensure the evening runs smoothly. "Metro line 9 was supposed to be closed, but it will stay open all weekend, which means people can arrive and leave in good conditions," Mauresmo told reporters on Friday. "Everything around the stadium grounds is being managed by the police teams. They've secured the perimeter and are handling what needs to be done. On our side, we're managing operations inside and immediately around the stadium, while the police prefecture is in charge of everything beyond that perimeter." Paris police chief Laurent Nunez confirmed 5,400 officers would be deployed across the capital on Saturday, with the Champs-Elysees and streets around the Arc de Triomphe closed from midday as a precaution, in light of a recent incident in Liverpool where a car ploughed into a crowd of football fans. As for whether the football frenzy might distract from the tennis, Mauresmo was relaxed. "I'm not sure you can stop someone from checking the score on their phone," she smiled. "We're obviously vigilant and have security measures in place. But it's like the Olympics — people follow other events. "If there's a couple of disturbances, we'll live with it. And on paper, it's not like there's going to be 10 or 20 goals."

Vitinha & Lautaro Martinez Key In PSG Vs Inter Milan UEFA Champions League Final
Last Updated: PSG and Inter Milan face-off in the UEFA Champions League final with Vitinha and Lautaro Martinez being te key players. After months of thrilling comebacks, tactical battles, and emotional peaks, the pinnacle of European club football is set to unfold at the Munich Football Arena. The highly anticipated UEFA Champions League final will see PSG vying for their maiden Champions League title, a triumph that would cap a remarkable season under Luis Enrique. Meanwhile, Inter Milan, the Nerazzurri, will be aiming for their fourth Champions League trophy after an impressive campaign, punctuated by a dramatic semi-final victory against Barcelona. This match represents the first Champions League meeting between these two clubs and only the second final between teams from France and Italy. The previous such occasion was the 1992/93 final, where Marseille defeated AC Milan 1-0 in Munich, albeit at the Olympiastadion. PSG last appeared in a Champions League final in 2020, losing to Bayern Munich, while Inter's last final appearance was in 2023, where they were defeated by Manchester City. Paris endured a turbulent journey through the initial group stage. After a shaky start, they rallied to win their final three group games, securing qualification. A resounding 10-0 knockout phase play-off victory over domestic rivals Brest revitalised their campaign. From there, Luis Enrique's side overcame a home defeat to eliminate group stage winners Liverpool on penalties, subsequently defeating Aston Villa 5-4 on aggregate and Arsenal 3-1 on aggregate, the latter a measure of revenge for a group stage loss. Paris now becomes the third French team to reach the final of the European Cup/Champions League more than once, following Reims (1955/56, 1958/59) and Marseille (1990/91, 1992/93). In contrast, Inter were one of the most consistent sides in the group stage, finishing fourth with just one defeat: a 1-0 loss at Bayer Leverkusen, which was also the only goal they conceded. In the knockout stages, Simone Inzaghi's men comfortably dispatched Feyenoord, edged Bayern 4-3 on aggregate in a closely fought contest, and overcame Barcelona in a thrilling semi-final, winning 7-6 on aggregate. This will be Inter's seventh European Cup/Champions League final. They have won 10 matches in this edition – their highest tally in a single UEFA competition season. The Nerazzurri have lost only one of their 14 Champions League matches this season and are unbeaten in their last eight. The stage is set. Will it be a fourth title for the dominant Inter or a historic first for the Parisian giants? PSG Key player: Vitinha Vitinha is pivotal to Paris's success. An elegant, creative midfielder with a knack for scoring crucial goals, as demonstrated by his strikes in each leg of the 6-4 aggregate win against Barcelona in last season's quarter-finals. He was included in the 2023/24 Champions League Team of the Season and will undoubtedly play a crucial role for Paris in the final. Inter Milan Key player: Lautaro Martinez The Argentine forward finished as Serie A top scorer in 2023/24 for the first time, with 24 goals in 33 appearances, marking his third consecutive season with more than 20 league goals. Known for his relentless work rate, intelligent positioning, and clinical finishing, Martínez continues to lead from the front as captain of the Nerazzurri. Soccer-Eiffel Tower set to sparkle for PSG's big European night
MUNICH, Germany, - The city of Paris will show its support for Paris St Germain during their date with destiny in Saturday's Champions League final by lighting up the city's iconic landmark, the Eiffel Tower, which is also set to sparkle should the team score. The Eiffel Tower will turn to red and blue one hour before kickoff, and the fans in the capital will hope to see it sparkle as often as possible. "Saturday, everyone behind PSG. After the title in the France championship and the Coupe de France, all of Paris is with the players to win the Champions League," city mayor Anne Hidalgo said in a statement. "Paris has a date with the history of football. You make us dream! We are counting on you to make Paris shine." While the final takes place in Munich, a large security operation will be in force in the French capital, with 5,400 police officers deployed in the city in an effort to avoid disturbances. PSG are aiming to win their first Champions League trophy, having reached the final in 2020 only to lose to Bayern Munich. They would become the second French club to win the competition, after Olympique de Marseille's success in 1993. Marseille triumphed in the first year the competition was rebranded from the European Cup to the Champions League, and their win came in Munich, and against another side from Milan, Inter's neighbours AC Milan.
