Chelsea Make History With Conference League Triumph, Win All European Trophies
Chelsea became the first club to win all five UEFA trophies after clinching the Conference League trophy with a 4-1 victory over Real Betis.
Chelsea surged back to defeat Real Betis 4-1 in the UEFA Conference League final held in Wroclaw on Wednesday, becoming the first club to achieve a clean sweep of European trophies.
Manuel Pellegrini's dynamic Betis surprised the favourites with an early goal from Abde Ezzalzouli, capitalising on a sluggish Chelsea side.
However, Enzo Maresca's second-half substitutions brought energy, and Cole Palmer transformed the game within five minutes, assisting Enzo Fernandez and Nicolas Jackson to score.
Substitute Jadon Sancho secured the victory in the 83rd minute as Betis, in their first European final, weakened, and Moises Caicedo added the final touch to the scoreline.
Chelsea is the first club to win all five UEFA club tournaments: the Champions League, Europa League, Conference League, Super Cup, and the now-defunct Cup Winners' Cup.
This marks their first silverware since Todd Boehly's consortium took over from Roman Abramovich in 2022, following an era of unprecedented success for the club.
Boehly celebrated on the pitch, savouring the win that seemed improbable when Betis controlled the first half.
Maresca, in his debut season at Stamford Bridge, expressed hope that the Conference League victory would be a starting point for the club.
'The club has invested heavily in the last few years, so they are also anticipating results," Maresca told TNT Sports. 'Hopefully, this can be a launchpad for building something significant."
Betis went ahead in the ninth minute through Ezzalzouli, who scored the decisive goal against Fiorentina to reach the final.
Malo Gusto lost possession, allowing Betis captain Isco to deliver a clever pass to Ezzalzouli, who drilled a left-footed shot across Filip Jorgensen.
Minutes later, Marc Bartra attempted a long-range shot, but Jorgensen made a spectacular save.
Encouraged by their enthusiastic fans, Betis nearly scored again when Johnny Cardoso's shot from inside the box was deflected behind.
Despite enjoying most of the possession, Chelsea struggled to create meaningful chances, with Betis defending well and Isco, a five-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid, dictating play.
Maresca replaced Gusto with James at the break, which revitalised Chelsea.
Pellegrini was forced to substitute Ezzalzouli with Jesus Rodriguez.
Maresca made several other changes, including bringing on Sancho, but Palmer's brilliance changed the course of the match.
Palmer's precise inswinging cross from the right found Fernandez, who headed the ball past Adrian in the 65th minute.
Chelsea's momentum surged, and their fans roared with excitement.
Five minutes later, Palmer delivered another superb cross that Jackson bundled into the net.
Jackson missed a second goal due to a heavy touch, allowing the Betis goalkeeper to gather.
Sancho combined with fellow substitute Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to make it 3-1, and Caicedo added a fourth from the edge of the box.
Chelsea's victory ends an impressive streak of Spanish team wins. In the last 27 men's finals involving Spanish teams, all had Spanish winners, with Spanish club sides only defeated by fellow La Liga teams.
Earlier, the center of Wroclaw was filled with fans from both clubs, with Betis supporters outnumbering Chelsea fans.
Poland's Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak reported that police made 28 arrests following clashes in the city's market square.

Women's EURO 2025 Final: Who is Hannah Hampton, the English goalkeeper battling a serious eye condition?
One of the standout performers for England in its run to the final of the UEFA Women's EURO 2025 has been goalkeeper Hannah Hampton. The shot-stopper has played every game in the Lionesses' run to defend its title. Her most prominent moment came in the quarterfinal against Sweden, where she was in goal for a remarkable penalty shootout where she conceded just two of the seven penalties. Hampton's prolific tournament is made even more remarkable by the fact that she has a serious eye condition called strabismus. She has had the condition, which means that she struggles significantly with depth perception, since childhood. Despite multiple attempts at medical intervention to correct her sight issues, this depth perception issue remains for Hampton. The issue means that judging the trajectories of balls and catching them becomes difficult, and Hampton has had to adjust her technique in order to combat the issue. However, she has been able to forge an incredibly successful professional career regardless. Victory in Sunday's final would cap a remarkable season for Hampton in which she has already completed a domestic treble with her club side Chelsea, winning the WSL Golden Glove in the process. She established herself in the WSL whilst playing for Birmingham City, featuring for the side for four seasons. Ahead of the 2021/22 season, she moved across to Aston Villa, where she played until her move to the Blues in 2023.

Delhi LG unveils restored Roshanara Club, calls it big moment for Delhiites
New Delhi, Jul 27 (PTI) Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena on Sunday inaugurated the restored Roshanara Club, a heritage structure situated in North Delhi and regarded as the birthplace of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Spread across 22 acres, Roshanara Club has been a symbol of culture, sport, and heritage for over a century. 'It is a big moment for us as this heritage club has been restored and relaunched. I congratulate the citizens of Delhi on this occasion," Saxena said at the event. He added that several heritage structures in Delhi have been restored in the past three years, with more planned in the future. During his visit to the club on January 12, 2023, the Lt Governor found the once-prestigious institution in a state of serious neglect, with a crumbling facade and damaged infrastructure. 'The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) officially took over the sealed premises on September 29, 2023, and launched an extensive restoration drive under Saxena's continuous guidance," a statement said. The project aimed not only to restore the architectural beauty of the club but also to modernize it to meet contemporary recreational and fitness needs. 'The club's iconic features, including its European-style doors and windows, Mangalore-tiled roof, antique chandeliers, and wooden trusses, were carefully preserved. In addition, the club now houses a wide range of modern indoor facilities such as a lounge, dining hall, kids' play area, gym, card and billiards rooms, yoga and sauna areas, and a library," the DDA said said in the statement. Upgraded outdoor amenities include grass, clay, and synthetic tennis courts, cricket practice pitches, a mini football zone, basketball courts, and a dedicated jogger's park. With its restoration complete, Roshanara Club is once again poised to be a premier hub for sports, leisure, and cultural heritage in the capital. Man United Bigger Than The Club World Cup! US Record Crowd Recorded For Friendly vs West Ham
Last Updated: Manchester United's 2-1 win over West Ham at MetLife Stadium set a new U.S. soccer attendance record with 82,566 fans. Bruno Fernandes scored both goals. Manchester United's 2–1 victory over West Ham United at MetLife Stadium on Saturday wasn't just a showcase of pre-season Premier League football—it was a historic night for U.S. soccer attendance. A staggering crowd of 82,566 fans packed the stadium, setting a new record for the largest attendance at a football match in the United States in 2025. The turnout eclipsed the previous high set earlier this year during the FIFA Club World Cup final, which drew 81,118 spectators. The match, part of United's U.S. pre-season tour, saw The MetLife Stadium, home to the NFL's New York Giants and New York Jets, transform into a sea of red and claret as supporters turned out in full force. On the field, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes stole the spotlight with a commanding performance, scoring both goals in the victory. The 30-year-old Portuguese midfielder was clinical and composed, reminding fans why he was named United's Player of the Year last season. The match was competitive throughout, with West Ham pulling one back in the second half, but the result remained in United's favor. The quality of play, combined with the electric crowd atmosphere, created a memorable experience for all in attendance. Saturday's attendance milestone underscores the surging interest in European football among American audiences. With elite clubs like Manchester United, Real Madrid, Arsenal, and Bayern Munich regularly including the U.S. on their pre-season itineraries, fan engagement has soared. Events like the Club World Cup, which made its U.S. debut this year, and the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup—hosted jointly by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico—are contributing to a soccer boom in the region. MetLife Stadium, which will host matches during the 2026 World Cup, continues to prove itself as a prime venue for the sport's biggest occasions. Following the record-breaking night, Manchester United will continue their U.S. tour with upcoming fixtures on the West Coast. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
