E-Junkies: Members of new K-pop girl group Kiiras put teen life on hold for idol career , Entertainment News
AsiaOne recently spoke with K-pop rookie girl group Kiiras, who were in Singapore for a collaboration video shoot with UOB before heading to Malaysia and Japan.
The sextet - leader Lingling from Malaysia, Kurumi from Japan as well as Kylie, Harin, Doyeon and Roah from South Korea - made their debut on May 29 and have released two songs, Kill Ma Bo$$ and Ziller!.
With their oldest member Lingling at 20 years old and youngest Roah turning 14 in October, all but one of the girls have stopped school to pursue their idol dreams.
Harin, 17, shared: "In junior high school, I studied hard enough to get first place but then suddenly I wanted to become an idol, so I quit studying and chose to pursue it."
Roah, who practised gugak (traditional Korean music) for three to four years, added: "I quit gugak , which I'd been doing for so long and switched to idol music."
Currently, only former child actress Doyeon, who turns 16 in December, attends school and only on days when Kiiras don't have activities or music shows planned. On school days, she has to wake up at 5am to get ready for lessons.

For Lingling, Malaysia's first female K-pop girl group member, the opportunity to return home rarely comes by.
"I don't really have much time to meet my family, so whenever there are long holidays, I'll go back to Malaysia if I can. But recently, I've just been video-calling my parents every day," she explained.
The other members agreed, saying they video-call and communicate with their families in their free time. Adjusting to life as public figures
Kiiras debuted with their single Kill Ma Bo$$ on May 29, and its music video has surpassed seven million views on YouTube. They shared with us their most memorable moments on set.
For Doyeon, her pick would be meeting the donkey featured in the video, which she had initially been scared of but had become closer to while filming.
Roah described animatedly a scene they filmed in a studio. "When everyone sat down on the sofa, real feathers exploded instead of computer graphics. So we all pretended to be surprised but behind the scenes we were giggling, and the other girls said they were too scared to hold hands."
They were recently designated Mapo Police Station's Crime Prevention Ambassadors, teaching citizens "how to be responsible".
How do idols and safety correlate? Harin shared: "As public figures, we feel a responsibility to use our influence in a meaningful way. In our ambassadorship, we want to take part in more campaigns about kindness and safety." View this post on Instagram

On their more imminent goals, 19-year-old Kurumi said: "Now, our goal is to prepare for our comeback later this year, and we want to rank first on a music programme at least once."
Lingling added: "We want to participate in year-end award shows like Mama and go to Kcon if there's a chance. One day, we hope to grow bigger like Blackpink in the future."
Kcon is an annual convention and music festival held around the world to celebrate Korean music, beauty and food.
However, being just two months fresh out of their debut, the girls are still adjusting to celebrity life. Recalling their arrival at Changi Airport, 17-year-old Kylie said: "I feel different from when I was a normal person, especially when we went to the airport this time, our fans welcomed us so much that I realised again [that we are celebrities]."
Roah expressed: "It's hard to believe that it's already been two months since our debut, but in the meantime we've been active and made so many memories together, and I'm so happy and excited to be abroad with the group for the first time!" Sharing and learning cultural experiences
With members from different cultural backgrounds, they are also learning more than just music and being an idol.
Kurumi shared: "I think language is very important [when it comes to learning about cultures]. It's especially because we're going to Japan soon, I'm teaching everyone the language - the same way Lingling's helping with the English interviews in Singapore and Malaysia."
In addition, Lingling wants to integrate ethnic wear into Kiiras' performances such as donning traditional Malaysian attire in a Kill Ma Bo$$ performance.
Roah was surprised when she learned something Malaysian from Lingling: "There, people don't usually wear pyjamas at home - they just wear regular, everyday clothes. And in South Korea when we're at home, we wear pyjamas and lie in bed."
Watch our E-Junkies interview as they answer a series of "Who's Most Likely To" questions!

Blackpink's Jisoo shot new music video in Singapore's Rainforest Wild Asia
South Korean singer and actress Jisoo from K-pop girl group Blackpink shot the music video for her new song Your Love in Singapore's Rainforest Wild Asia, in partnership with Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and Mandai Wildlife Reserve. The two-minute 54-second clip, released on Aug 12, sees her singing amid a lush tropical rainforest, as well as the man-made cave system in Singapore's fifth wildlife park. She is also filmed in Cavern Restaurant, a cavernous 150-seat air-conditioned restaurant and one of the eateries within the attraction. Also making an appearance are langurs, one of the animal species that inhabit Rainforest Wild Asia. Your Love is a single from Jisoo's debut solo mini-album Amortage, which was released on Feb 14. In March, the 30-year-old was in Singapore for an appearance at Amortage at Far East Malls, a pop-up concept store celebrating the album release. Jisoo will be back in town with her fellow Blackpink bandmates to perform at the National Stadium on Nov 29 and 30 as part of their highly anticipated Deadline world tour. The music video is also a collaboration with local dance talent agency Jam Republic, which oversaw the overall operations and logistics during filming, and Jisoo's agency Blisoo. Ms Serene Tan, STB's director, North Asia, says in a statement: "Together with Mandai Wildlife Group, one of our key partners in this collaboration, we aim to showcase Singapore's unique landscapes and attractions, including its lush green spaces and immersive wildlife experiences. "Jisoo's emotional performance brought Singapore's natural beauty to life, and we hope that leveraging her global influence, we can introduce K-pop fans and visitors around the world to the unforgettable experiences that only Singapore can offer, and inspire them to experience them for themselves." South Korean singer Jisoo from Blackpink shot the music video for her song Your Love in Rainforest Wild Asia, Mandai Wildlife Reserve, Singapore, in partnership with Singapore Tourism Board and Mandai Wildlife Reserve. PHOTO: SCREENGRAB FROM JISOO/YOUTUBE Ms Jean Choi, chief sales and marketing officer at Mandai Wildlife Group, adds in a statement: "This project is a great opportunity to creatively showcase Mandai Wildlife Park and show people a different side of Singapore that they might not have expected. Mandai Wildlife Park is a visually striking and memorable experience, and we expect it to resonate strongly with South Korean travellers who value emotional storytelling and Instagrammable photos." Rainforest Wild Asia will be hosting the Your Love Meets The Wild campaign, an immersive rainforest adventure that includes special trails that recreate scenes from the music video and visits to stone chambers inspired by real caves. The campaign will run from Aug 13 to Oct 5. Jisoo is the latest pop star to film a music video in Singapore in partnership with STB this year. In May, K-pop boy band BTS member Jin released the shot-in-Singapore music video for his single Don't Say You Love Me that featured scenes filmed in local spots such as National Gallery Singapore, Gardens by the Bay, Singapore Flyer and Goldhill Plaza. British band Coldplay's Man In The Moon MV, released in February, features the quartet performing on a custom-made floating stage in Marina Bay. Besides prominent places such as Jewel Changi Airport and S.E.A. Aquarium, it also features heartland spots, such as an HDB estate in MacPherson.

'So much of my work never made it out there': Ferlyn Wong unveils 2014 SKarf footage, Entertainment News
Even if this quintet disbanded 11 years ago, fans still fondly remember its 13th debut anniversary yesterday (Aug 14). To commemorate the occasion, local actress Ferlyn Wong took to Instagram to share previously unreleased practice footage of K-pop girl group SKarf, which she was part of from 2012 to 2014. In the video, the five members perform a song cover of Wings by British girl group Little Mix. The 33-year-old wrote in her Reel's caption: "Thirteen years ago, the world met SKarf. Singapore saw its first homegrown talents step into the K-pop spotlight. "We grew up quickly, learning to navigate change and survival at a young age... What we went through wasn't just a journey; it was a quiet fight to keep going. "Today, we've all taken flight in different directions. We're not always in touch, but when we do reconnect, it's as if no time has passed. I'm proud of us. Talent? Plenty. Luck? Not so much. Passion? We were on fire!" SKarf debuted in Seoul in August 2012, with their song Oh! Dance. Its original line-up consisted of leader Tasha and Ferlyn from Singapore, Sol who is Korean-American and Jenny from South Korea. After Sol's departure in December 2012, Korean member JooA and Japanese member Hana joined the group. A day leading up to yesterday's release of the footage, Ferlyn dropped hints when she posted Instagram Stories of herself dancing to K-pop choreographies, reminiscing: "Back then I ate, slept and breathed dance. Everyone just got used to it. "The only thing that makes me sad is knowing so much of my work never made it out there. Those were the days before social media. Will be releasing something special tomorrow." Ferlyn told AsiaOne that she had decided to post the song cover after 11 years as she has "grown deeply proud" of everything that has been achieved under SKarf's name. "What touches me even more is knowing that so many SKarf fans have stayed by our side all this time, supporting us, cheering for us and looking out for us. Their love has never gone unnoticed. "It's also a chance for me to share our story with new fans who have come to know me through (local dramas) Emerald Hill and The Spirit Hunter. Whether they've been here since day one or only just joined me on this journey, they're part of this chapter and I'm so grateful for them." She also shared that she recently had a video call with JooA and Tasha. The latter is now an actress, going by Tasha Low, and both Singaporeans recently acted together in the drama Emerald Hill: The Little Nyonya Story. "It reminded me how special our connection is. We can go months without talking, but when we do, it feels like no time has passed at all. There's a level of trust and comfort between us that's so warm," she expressed. "Everyone is doing well. Thank you for the concern." Despite the group's disbandment in 2014, many SKarf fans and Singaporeans showed their adoration for the group in the Reel's comments section. One said: "So much love for SKarf! Proud to be a fan from the start, all of you worked hard and did well! Keep shining, fighting!" "I still sing Oh! Dance and Luv Virus in the norebang (Korean for karaoke)!" said another fan. "My favourite song with my favourite group?! I'm so sad this cover never got to be performed, but nonetheless, thank you so much Ferlyn for showing us this precious video!" wrote a fan. Acknowledging the heartfelt comments, Ferlyn said: "I'm always so grateful for all of our SKarf fans. The journey hasn't always been easy, but they've made it meaningful and full of purpose. Just as they feel I've touched their lives, I want them to know that they've touched mine too. "I can't wait to make more memories together. For those who've been with me since my SKarf days, it's so special to see you grow, achieve and make your mark in the world. I'm grateful to you for being part of this journey with me." 'Don't think about me when you shower': Shy Park Bo-gum banters with fans at Singapore fan-meet, Entertainment News
PUBLISHED ON August 15, 2025 9:17 AM BY Yeo Shu Hui If there is one thing to remember about South Korean actor Park Bo-gum's Singapore fan-meet yesterday (Aug 14) — besides his good looks, many charms and singing prowess — it's the word shower. AsiaOne attended the event at the Star Theatre, where the 32-year-old began the evening with a cover of the upbeat song Hello by Red Velvet's Joy. 2025.08.14 @BOGUMMY 🩵# BE WITH YOU in SINGAPORE OPENING 🎤🎶🪽#BEWITHYOU #BEWITHYOUinSG#박보김 #PARKBOGUM — 박보검ellisse* (@Ann_ellisse0612) August 14, 2025 Addressing his fans as his "life-long friends", Bo-gum thanked everyone for coming to see him, even saying "Hot sia !" to everyone's amusement. He also said, through interpreter April Kim: "This year marks 14 years since my debut [in showbiz], thank you for all your support and love. [After all these years], you guys are still here, being with me. Thank you for being my friend, being with me, which is why I prepared the title of this show to be 'Be With You'." In the first part of his show named 8/14 platform, Bo-gum brought his fans on a 'train ride' where they could know more about him, his filming experiences and interaction with fans. He revealed his daily routine in the segment named B-cut Station, where he said he usually wakes up early in the morning and go for a run along Han River, before having breakfast and going for work. He also shared that he began his day yesterday morning with a swim before going for a run near Marina Bay Sands, where he saw a lot of people jogging. "I was so thankful, because when my life-long friends recognised me, they respected my boundaries, and I am so touched," Bo-gum said, adding that they only waved and gave him a thumbs-up. How to smell like Bo-gum? Kim also asked him about one thing he must do every day and as Bo-gum pondered, a few fans shouted: "Shower!" Kim asked the fans how they knew that, as Bo-gum jokingly pulled his jacket closer around himself. "Whenever I end work after a day, I must take a shower. I don't lie down without showering at all," he added. And this heralded a long conversation about his routine in the bathroom, from where he washes first to his favourite shampoo fragrance ("floral rose or minty"). While Bo-gum said he was told to wrap up his show at 10pm, he remained onstage for another 15 minutes as the crowd was reluctant to see him go.
