Bogota (Colombia), Aug 3 (AP) The bodies of four out of five miners trapped in a collapsed section of one of Chile's biggest copper mines for three days have been found and identified, an official said Sunday.
Rescue workers at the El Teniente mine, about 100 kilometres south of the capital Santiago, are still looking for the fifth miner, identified as Moises Pavez, mine director Andres Music said.
The trapped miners were located thanks to GPS devices, but rescue workers had to drill through dozens of metres of rock to reach them.
A section of the mine collapsed following a 4.2 magnitude quake on Thursday, killing one worker and injuring nine others.
Authorities are investigating whether it was a naturally occurring earthquake or whether mining activity at El Teniente caused the tremor. Chilean prosecutors also launched a criminal investigation to determine whether any safety standards were violated.
El Teniente, located in the Andes mountains in central Chile, is the world's largest underground copper mine and is owned by Chilean state company Codelco.
Shortly after Thursday's collapse, Codelco halted operations at the affected section of the copper mine and evacuated 3,000 people from the wider site to safe areas.
The company cancelled a presentation of its first-half financial results, set for Friday morning, due to the rescue efforts.
Chile, the world's largest copper producer, also lies in the seismically active 'Ring of Fire" that surrounds the shores of the Pacific Ocean. (AP) GRS GRS

Attempt To Burn Down US ICE Office In Washington Amid Crackdown On Illegal Immigrants
A suspected arsonist targeted a US immigration building in Washington, days after protests and rising anger over mass deportations. A suspected arsonist tried to set fire to a US immigration office in Yakima, Washington, over the weekend, in what appears to be a targeted attack amid growing tensions over deportations. According to officials who spoke to the The New York Post, the attacker first threw a rock through a window of the building which is listed as a field office of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), before starting a fire behind the property on Saturday. The New York-based newspaper, which was the first to report the development, said that photos from the scene show black smoke rising as flames charred the grass outside. No injuries were reported and federal immigration agents at the site escaped unhurt, it said. The attempted arson comes at a time when deportation crackdowns have sparked anxiety in migrant communities, including among South Asians. ICE operations have picked up pace in recent weeks, with rising concerns about detentions and removals, especially of undocumented workers. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Amritsar temple grenade attack: NIA conducts searches at 19 locations in Punjab
New Delhi, Aug 5 (PTI) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at 19 locations across several districts in Punjab on Tuesday in connection with the grenade attack on a temple in Amritsar in March, officials said. The searches in the border districts of Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Batala resulted in the seizure of incriminating materials, including mobile phones and digital devices, they said. Terrorists, backed by foreign-based handlers, had hurled a grenade at Thakur Dwara Sanatan Temple, Sher Shah Road, Amritsar on the night of March 14. 'The incident was one of the many recent grenade attacks carried out by operatives of different terror groups in the state of Punjab, on the directions of their handlers based abroad," an NIA spokesperson said in a statement. The official said the NIA probe found that the attack was carried out by Gursidak Singh (now deceased) and Vishal Gill. 'Singh was in contact with foreign-based handlers, who recruited India-based individuals and conspired to spread terror among the people by providing grenades/explosives and funds. The handlers radicalised vulnerable youth and induced them to unleash terror in lieu of money and drugs," the statement said. Singh and Gill were allegedly involved in multiple instances of picking and dropping of grenades, weapons etc, the NIA investigations showed.
