Nishant's political entry not RJD's business: Samrat
Patna: Speculation over the political debut of Nishant Kumar, son of CM Nitish Kumar, took a sharp political turn on Sunday when RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav alleged that a "BJP-aligned faction" within JD(U) was preventing his entry.

He claimed that the BJP was not keen on Nishant joining politics, as it could disrupt the party's long-term strategy to replace Nitish as CM after the 2025 elections.
When asked about Tejashwi's comments, deputy CM Samrat Choudhary said, "The entry of Nishant into politics will not be decided by the Lalu family. It will be decided by CM Nitish Kumar and his family."
Avoiding any direct reference to Tejashwi, Samrat launched a scathing attack on RJD chief Lalu Prasad and challenged the RJD to present its 15-year track record in contrast to Nitish's 20-year tenure.

Bengal: FIR against Sukanta over ‘derogatory' remark on Kolkata police
AN FIR has been filed against BJP state president and Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar for allegedly making derogatory remarks comparing the Kolkata Police's law and order situation to sex workers in Sonagachi, a red-light area in the city. The FIR was registered at Burtolla police station following a complaint lodged by a sex worker at Sonagachi, a police officer said. The allegation stems from an incident on Friday when Majumdar was detained by the police in Bhabanipur. During an argument, he purportedly said, 'You (police) have turned the law into a sex worker in Sonagachi!' The ruling Trinamool Congress condemned the comment as 'indecent and disrespectful,' with State Minister Shashi Panja demanding that Majumdar issue an apology. TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh also criticised Majumdar, saying, 'Sukanta made that comment because he doesn't understand the struggle of sex workers.' Majumdar, however, defended his words as targeting police performance, not individuals, and accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of stoking the controversy to 'divert attention' from her own allies' 'misconduct'. 'The women of Sonagachi also have respect. There are principles,' he said. Majumdar accused CM Banerjee of orchestrating the controversy to hinder him and to deflect attention from (TMC leader) 'Anubrata Mondal's wrongdoings.' In protest, Sonagachi sex workers and their children plan to demonstrate on Monday. In a statement, the women said, 'The sex workers of Sonagachi, along with their children, are scheduled to hold a protest gathering on Monday. Sonagachi is not a symbol of disorder. MDMK leader Vaiko condemns political parties for holding events in the name of gods
The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) general secretary Vaiko said on Sunday it was wrong for political parties to hold conferences in the name of any god. Speaking to reporters after the party's general council meeting in Erode, he said, 'Using the name of any god for a party conference is inappropriate, irrespective of which deity it is.' Referring to the Lord Muruga devotees conference held in Madurai on Sunday, he alleged the BJP, RSS, and Hindutva forces were behind the event. 'This will not help consolidate the Hindu vote bank in Tamil Nadu,' he felt. At the general council meeting, which saw the participation of around 1,800 members from across Tamil Nadu, the party adopted 28 resolutions, including one that called for the MDMK to contest in a higher number of seats in the alliance [headed by DMK] in the 2026 Assembly elections to secure Election Commission 'recognition' as a political party. Another resolution emphasised the need to counter what it described as ongoing efforts by the Union government to undermine Tamil language and identity. The council also demanded the withdrawal of a circular that mandates the disbursal of cooperative loans based on CIBIL score. Mr. Vaiko said the MDMK joined the DMK alliance in 2017 to protect the ideals of the Dravidian movement, which he said were under threat from attempts to impose Hindi and to alienate religious minorities. 'We are part of the alliance not out of convenience, but to uphold ideological goals,' he said. The MDMK would work to ensure the alliance's victory in future elections. Responding to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's recent comment that a day would come when those speaking in English in India would be made to feel ashamed of it, Mr Vaiko said, 'He is an expert in making shameful comments.' Dismissing speculation about discussions with the BJP, he clarified that the MDMK had not held any talks and would not do so. He criticised BJP leaders Tamilisai Soundararajan and Nainar Nagendran for making baseless and irresponsible statements. He said the DMK-led alliance remained strong and would comfortably win future elections. While the DMK had fulfilled many of its promises despite financial constraints, the Union government had withheld funds and Governor R.N. Ravi had blocked key Bills, acting as an agent of the BJP, he alleged.
