People are travelling to McDonald's restaurants in Italy for one strange reason

Daily Mirror4 days ago
Dedicated fans of McDonald's have been racing to Italy where the fast food chain has begun a new promotion. Many are heading overseas to be a part of it and posting the results online
Whilst many fans of McDonald's collect the fast food chain's merchandise - most commonly Happy Meal toys - occasionally the company embarks on other promotions to attract customers. For some, that's meant travelling to Italy just to get their hands on some new 'Maccies' goods.

Just as it did last year, McDonald's in Italy has launched a new adult meal campaign where the toy has been replaced by something much different - a beach towel. One person who travelled across Europe especially took to TikTok to document her adventure. "POV [point of view] You go to Italy to get the McDonald's towel," Leonie penned in a caption alongside her video.

After entering the restaurant, Leonie could be seen heading straight to the touchscreen ordering system, where she picked out the "nuovi teli mare" [new beach towels] option.
"Hoping for the ice cream or the burger," she continued. Indeed the McDonald's Italy website reveals there are four towels in the range, featuring a Big Mac, a drink, fries and a McFlurry ice cream.
However, after opening her paper bag, she was disappointed to realise she'd been given the drink version. "Not the freaking soda," she exclaimed. Despite her modest following of just 228 on the social media platform, 1.4 million TikTok users tuned in.

Elsewhere, a second McDonald's fan from Australia made the mammoth trip to Europe to get her hands on the coveted merch. "I travelled all the way to Italy to secure a McDonald's beach towel," confirmed Ana in a clip, which has also been viewed 1.4 million times.
Her grand reveal saw her become the proud owner of the fries design, meanwhile, as she Ana pointed out she was actually in Sardinia rather than the Italian mainland.

Writing in response, one TikTok user quipped: "This is actually really dangerous because now we've all had to book flights to Italy to get a McDonald's beach towel."
A second replied: "What! I'm going to Italy on Monday. I'm gonna go to McDonald's."
A third person praised: "I literally told my parents all about it and we are in Italy right now and we drove to McDonald's and my parents are getting me one."

Whilst a fourth joked: "The only thing my six-year old enjoyed in Italy."
And in response to questions from other intrigued McDonald's lovers, Ana explained: "You have to order specific meals! There is an option at those kiosks that tell you which ones you need to order to get the towel."
If you're tempted to travel to Italy to snap one up for yourself, be wary that McDonald's Italia says of the promotion: "Offer valid at participating McDonald's locations. While supplies last. Purchase of a Large McMenu or Happy Meal includes a Beach Towel.
"Check prices at participating McDonald's locations. Beach towels cannot be sold separately. You cannot choose the design of your beach towel."

From tragic festivals and political scandals, the series has shown it all. But the latest and final instalment has been branded a must watch as it investigates the Storm Area 51 frenzy that went viral. In 2019, 20-year-old Matty Roberts sparked a worldwide sensation by creating a Facebook event titled 'Storm Area 51, They Can't Stop All of Us'. ‌ The aim was to infiltrate the secret Air Force base in Nevada and uncover its supposed hidden secrets, from government trials to alien technologies. With millions of people expressing their interest, law enforcement agencies were on edge. Released on July 29, fans have branded it "insane. On TikTok, one user commented that the "story is wild" as another said they will "stop what I'm currently watching to watch this." ‌ Conversations with a Killer: The Son of Sam tapes This three part series has been branded as "craziness" as one true crime fan said on TikTok it is one "you do not want to miss". Released on Netflix on July 30, The Son of Sam Tapes transports viewers into one of the NYPD's greatest manhunts in New York City. ‌ David Berkowitz, also known as the Son of Sam and the .44 Caliber Killer, is an American serial killer who was convicted of murdering six people. Now, this true crime documentary investigates the disturbing mind of the murderer himself. Netflix teases: "Newly unearthed recordings offer rare insight into his twisted psyche, revealing what was going through his mind as he unleashed a reign of terror in the late 1970s. Alongside first-hand accounts from cops, journalists, and survivors, the series unpacks how fear spread through the streets, fuelled by cryptic letters, a frenzied press, and a killer who seemed to be everywhere and nowhere at once." And fans cannot get enough of the true crime docuseries. One person wrote on X: "Conversations with a Killer: The Son of Sam Tapes may be one of their best true crime docu-series." ‌ Amy Bradley is Missing This heart-breaking documentary explores the disappearance of Amy Bradley who went missing without a trace in 1998 while on a Caribbean cruise with her family. It also explores her final sighting which was by her father on their balcony early morning. He later woke to find her missing, and the mystery to this day remains unsolved. ‌ The documentary has gripped fans who are taking to social media to share their thoughts and theories on what may have happened as viewers say they are "adding to their watch list". One person wrote on X: "If y'all into true crime docs Amy Bradley is Missing on Netflix is a must watch!" Another added: "That Amy Bradley is missing documentary is haunting on Netflix. The forensics on the photographs matched and there were convincing witness statements who saw her. FBI should have done more to track her down. She was alive!" Critical: Between Life and Death ‌ Critical: Between Life and Death aired on Netflix on July 23 but has quickly become a firm favourite for documentary fans. It tracks London's trauma units as they face harrowing, real life situations and save lives. From multiple traumas to life or death operations, the show is said to not be for those who have a weak stomach. The six-part series features surgeons, emergency crews and victims and their families as they recount the terrifying incidents as well as tense moments within the health service. From the Makers of 24 Hours in A&E, the show features exclusive access in London's trauma hospitals over 21 days and across 40 cameras as "every second counts". And despite noting the "gory" nature of the documentary, fans are loving it. ‌ "This one is REALLY graphic...I think a tad more than 24 Hours in A&E...I'll still watch, behind my fingers sometimes," one person wrote. Another penned: "This is brilliant. Binge watching it." Fit for TV: Reality of the Biggest Loser Although not released yet, Fit for TV: Reality of the Biggest Loser has fans talking on social media as anticipation for it is high. easyJet charges passenger '£96 extra' at airport and her journey 'gets worse'

An easyJet passenger has shared her "unfair" experience after travelling to Paris, and claimed to have been charged a hefty fee before her journey took a turn for the worst It's widely known that navigating through an airport can be incredibly stressful, and matters become even more chaotic when complications arise. One woman, who recently travelled with easyJet, alleged she endured a particularly dreadful journey after being hit with a substantial charge and watching things rapidly deteriorate from bad to worse. ‌ Emi, who goes by on TikTok, recently shared details about her trip when journeying from London Luton Airport to Paris, and the ordeal left her completely disappointed. She reported being "unfairly" billed and had a "poor experience" during her flight, which made her Paris getaway rather miserable. ‌ In the footage, she alleges easyJet charged her £96.00 for carrying a rucksack that "met cabin policy", and which she believes comfortably fitted beneath the seat. She stated the charge was imposed at the "last minute", and she considered the decision "unfair" - though travellers are advised to verify baggage regulations before departure. ‌ To compound matters, she also alleged the aircraft was filthy, and she encountered delays as well. She wrote: "The experience only got worse on board. The airplane was dirty, with poor hygiene and cleanliness conditions. "The flight was delayed without clear updates." ‌ In the footage, Emi mentioned the journey occurred on July 24, and she displayed her receipt as well as showing what the aircraft looked like. There were crumbs and discarded rubbish on the floor beside her seats, and she wasn't particularly impressed. The clip has racked up dozens of views since being posted online, with viewers rushing to share their own experiences and opinions. One person revealed: "This happened to me. I complained to easyJet and they gave me the amount in a voucher." ‌ Another chimed in with: "I had the same thing at Luton." A third responded: "I've used the same backpack for the last three to four years with different airlines." Meanwhile, a fourth also remarked: "Follow the rules, no charges - simple." However, some viewers leapt to the airline's defence, offering a different viewpoint. One person pointed out: "Please bear in mind the staff have six to eight minutes to clean the plane and, if they are late, it's 90% of the time not their fault. ‌ "It can be if the plane in front of them was late taking off or landing - it delays others." Another supporter added: "Blame the set of passengers for leaving the mess, not the crew. If they were to tidy it, the flight would be delayed and they would get bother from the airline for being late and the passengers too." Emi failed to display her bag in the footage, meaning viewers couldn't judge exactly how large it was. She simply revealed the receipt handed to her by staff following payment of the charge. easyJet was unable to provide comment on the particular incident, however the carrier did issue a response regarding its baggage policy. A spokesperson stated: "easyJet's bag policy is well understood and all customers can bring one small under seat bag for free. "We provide clear information on bag allowances including dimensions clear when booking, via email before travel and on our boarding passes and our ground handlers check bags to ensure they will fit in the cabin, and in fairness to customers who have paid to bring additional bags."
