"At Such A Young Age...": PM Narendra Modi Hails Vaibhav Suryavanshi's Sensational IPL Century

NDTV04-05-2025

Teenager Vaibhav Suryavanshi's astonishing batting skills have captured the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who on Sunday hailed the 'son of Bihar' for working immensely hard on his craft which helped him play fearless cricket on the big stage. Modi mentioned Vaibhav's batting exploits in his video address during the inauguration of the Khelo India Youth Games in Bihar. The 14-year-old Suryavanshi, who hails from Bihar's Samastipur, became a toast of cricketing world when he hit a stunning 35-ball hundred for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans recently in the IPL.
"I have seen in the IPL, the son of Bihar, Vaibhav Suryavanshi's spectacular performance. At such a young age, Vaibhav has set such a great record. There is a lot of hard work behind Vaibhav's performance," Modi said in his address.
Modi said single-minded training and several matches he played to be ready for the big challenges contributed to Suryavanshi's success and encouraged the youth to put in the hard yards and compete intensely. "To bring his talent to the forefront, he has played many matches at different levels. The more you play, the more you will shine. Competing in matches and competitions as much as possible is very important. The NDA government has always given it the highest priority in its policies.
"The government's focus is on giving our athletes the opportunity to play new sports. That is why the Khelo India Youth Games included Gatka, Kho-kho, Malkhambh and Yogasana. In recent days, our athletes have performed very well in many new sports like Wushu, Lawn Balls, Roller Skating." Modi said sports holds a significant place in his government's policy making.
"There is a new national education policy, in which we have made sports a part of mainstream education. The aim of this policy is to create excellent sports professionals along with good players in the country.
"My young friends, we know that sportsmanship plays a very important role in every aspect of life. We learn team spirit in the field of sports. We learn to move forward together," he said.

RCB shredded for ‘error in judgment' during victory celebrations in Bengaluru: ‘Take a day off to just plan…'

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) triumph earlier this month after beating Punjab Kings in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Virat Kohli, the long-time RCB talisman finally got his hands on the coveted trophy. As soon as the title was won, Kohli announced that there would be a gala celebration in Bengaluru the next day as the state of Karnataka had waited long enough for the IPL win. However, celebrations took a horrendous turn as a stampede occurred outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, resulting in the death of 11 RCB fans. More than 30 people were left injured. Former India batter Robin Uthappa has weighed in on the issue, saying RCB's trophy win would always be marred by the loss of lives. After the loss of 11 lives, RCB announced INR 10 lakh for all of those families who lost someone from their household during the stampede. Following the incident, RCB's head of marketing and revenue, Nikhil Sosale was also arrested. He was then granted interim bail on June 12 but was asked to surrender his passport. 'The victory will always be marred by the loss of the lives of the people involved. It is so unfortunate that they can't even celebrate the win that they have achieved after so many years, after so much hard work,' Uthappa said on his YouTube channel. Uthappa, who hails from Bengaluru, said he was really angry upon hearing about the stampede. He also joined Madan Lal and others in saying the victory celebrations could have been planned better. Earlier, several cricket pundits stated that the victory celebrations could have been better organised and not rushed. 'I was angry for almost a day and I really delayed even putting anything out on social media because I was so angry. In a sense, we were talking about a modicum of balance during the rivalries bit right? One can understand that in the celebrations,' he stated. "You really want people to get close to the team and celebrate with them. I certainly think it could have been better planned, maybe take a day off to just plan the whole event because the city did deserve it, to be very honest," he added. Uthappa further stated that going forward, whenever there is an RCB game, he will be left concerned, thinking about the families who lost loved ones during the stampede. 'The sad part is now that whenever there is an RCB game, my heart shudders to think what those families will experience. It just hurts, man. It truly truly hurts,' said Uthappa. 'I just think they didn't have enough time to plan for it. In hindsight, doing it the very next day was an error in judgment,' he added.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni's luxury in Ranchi: From intricate artwork on walls to patio and bike collection, peek into Thala's dream residence

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, or as the fans know him, Mahi, has been playing cricket for the past two decades. Following his retirement from two formats of the sport in 2020, the athlete has continued to captain the IPL team, Chennai Super Kings. Amid the success and the victories, the former captain of the India Cricket team has managed to build his dream house in Ranchi, where he has settled with his wife, Sakshi, and daughter, Ziva. The sitting area also has some of the intricately designed walls, with one of them having a huge mirror installed. Gautam Gambhir Returns To India From England Due To Medical Emergency: Report

Last Updated: Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir has reportedly returned home from England days before the Tendulkar-Anderson trophy due to a family emergency. Indian men's head coach Gautam Gambhir has reportedly been forced to return to India from England due to a medical emergency just days before the start of the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy on June 20. According to Sportstar, his mother, Seema, has suffered a cardiac arrest and is currently in Intensive Care. Gambhir reached England with the team on June 7. This is his fourth Test series as the head coach. He reportedly missed India's net session on June 12, too, and is no longer with the squad. The date of his possible return is currently uncertain, though some reports say he might come back by next week. Gambhir's return comes on the day of India's intra-squad game. The match, likely to be played between teams drawn from the senior and India 'A' squads, will be played behind closed doors in Leeds, i.e., it won't be broadcast or streamed, and a scorecard is unlikely to be available either. According to news agency PTI, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate will assume the charge for the match. Bowling coach Morne Morkel and batting coach Sitanshu Kotak will assist him. It's the last bit of red-ball preparation for several first-time members, who are coming straight from the IPL. The first Test will be played in Headingley from next Friday. Earlier, Gambhir gave a stirring motivational speech to his young team about moving on from the retirements of greats like Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, and previous captain Rohit Sharma. 'All I want to say is there are two ways of looking at this group. One is that we are without our three most experienced players, or we've got this phenomenal opportunity to do something special," Gambhir said in a video shared by the BCCI, which was shot before his departure. 'And when I look around this group, the hunger, the passion and the commitment to do something special… If we make sacrifices, if we come out of our comfort zones, if we start fighting, not every day, but every session, every hour and every ball, I think we can have a memorable tour. So make sure we start that today. Start enjoying playing for the country because there's no bigger honour," he added. First Published:
