160 students to be pioneers of form six education programme at two public universities

The Sun26-05-2025

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 160 students will be selected as pioneers of a Form Six Education Programme at two public universities starting June 10, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.
She said the pilot programme, to be implemented at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), reflects the ministry's continuous commitment to enhancing the quality and prestige of Form Six education.
'So, InsyaAllah, on June 10, we will receive the first intake of 100 students at UKM and 60 students at USM.
'They (students) will need to apply and meet specific criteria. We are truly looking forward to this pilot initiative,' she said after officiating the launch and handover of the Anti-Corruption Heroes Comic Collection published by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Malaysian Institute of Translation and Books (ITBM) at the World Trade Centre (WTC), here today.
The Form Six Education Programme at public universities was announced by the Education Ministry last May 19.
According to her, the teaching staff for the programme will be provided by the ministry, and the teachers are already prepared to implement the pilot programme.
Fadhlina said that in its initial phase, the programme would be carried out at two public universities first, before being expanded to other public universities based on need and suitability.
Commenting on the launch of the comic collection, Fadhlina said it was one of the government's grassroots efforts to expose children at the primary school level to anti-corruption awareness.
'Hopefully, with these comics and interactive videos we plan to feature on the Digital Educational Learning Initiative Malaysia (DELIMa) platform, the ministry can further strengthen advocacy and public awareness, especially among our children, on the importance of combating corruption,' she said.
Earlier, Fadhlina witnessed the handing over of the Wira Anti Rasuah comic collection from MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman to the Director-General of Education Datuk Azman Adnan.
The comic collection is an English to Malay translation of the original book titled 'Bribe Busters: A Trace Comic Book' and is in and is in multi-format, namely an informative comic book and video to attract young readers in an effort to instill the value of integrity in students.
The publication of this book is proof of the commitment and togetherness of ITBM and MACC in supporting the government's efforts in addressing the causes of corruption through the culture of integrity, transparency and accountability starting from the school level in line with the Education Strategy contained in the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) 2024-2028.
To ensure access to this book reaches students and becomes one of the reading and reference materials in educating good values, integrity and patriotism, the book collection will be distributed to all primary schools under the Ministry of Education.

‘Tan Sri' in highway probe discharged, to be quizzed by MACC

MACC chief Azam Baki said anti-corruption officers would seek to set a date for taking the Tan Sri's statement. PETALING JAYA : A corporate figure at the centre of a corruption probe into the alleged misappropriation of sukuk funds for a Klang Valley highway project will be summoned soon by graft busters. Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Azam Baki said the 'Tan Sri' was discharged from hospital today after undergoing treatment for an undisclosed illness. 'I have been made to understand that the doctors have just allowed him to be discharged. My officers will be in touch with him as soon as possible to set a date to take his statement,' he said, according to Astro Awani. Azam added that the Tan Sri was the main suspect in the probe, while other witnesses were still giving their statements. He previously said that hundreds of millions in sukuk funds were suspected to have been channelled to a company owned by the corporate figure, and later misused for personal interests rather than the intended highway project. The funds were allegedly transferred to multiple entities, including proxy companies and the personal account of the Tan Sri's wife, and used to acquire real estate, luxury vehicles and goods, as well as fund gambling activities. MACC has seized individual bank accounts totalling RM4.5 million, eight company accounts totalling RM33 million, a luxury condominium and a plot of land valued at RM24.5 million, as well as nine vehicles valued at RM7.6 million in its probe. The anti-graft agency had also seized luxury watches valued at about RM25 million, designer handbags valued at RM3 million, jewellery and diamonds worth RM6 million, four horses valued at RM400,000, and premium alcoholic beverages worth RM3 million.

Immigration denies issuing Aidiladha meat distribution guidelines

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Immigration Department has denied issuing any statement regarding guidelines for the distribution of "Qurban" (sacrificial) meat at mosques in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration. Immigration deputy director-general (management) Ismail Mokhtar said the department was aware of the false statement, dated June 5, 2025, that had gone viral. "For the record, the statement is false and has never been issued by Immigration," he said in a statement here Saturday (June 7). He also advised the public to always refer to the department's official channels for accurate and authentic information. "Immigration takes the dissemination of false information seriously, especially when it can lead to public confusion. Any unauthorised use of the department's official emblem and name is an offence and may be subject to legal action," he added. The fake statement, dated June 5, 2025, that went viral, used the name of Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban. Among the things claimed in the statement was that only foreign nationals with valid work permits and visas, or those with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) cards, were allowed to receive Qurban meat at mosques. It also said that illegal immigrants who collected the meat would face immediate action. - Bernama
