Amit Shah goes after Congress and Nehru; blames Nehru's policies for PoK

Amit Shah on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Congress, blaming the party for the existence of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). Shah cited Jawaharlal Nehru's historical decisions, including the handling of the Kashmir issue, the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, and the 1971 Simla Agreement, accusing Congress of compromising India's national interests and failing to reclaim PoK when it had the chance.

State Congress gears up to hit the streets against SIR

1 2 Ranchi: Jharkhand Congress is gearing up to hit the streets against the special intensive revision (SIR) in Bihar, which has snowballed a major political controversy across the country. Election Commission of India (ECI) is also set to pan out SIR drive in other states gradually. On Thursday, state Congress president Keshav Mahto Kamlesh will roll out an LED van to create awareness against SIR as part of the party's nationwide drive. In the evening, the party has announced a candle march from the Congress office to Albert Ekka Chowk. On Wednesday, party's Jharkhand affairs in-charge K Raju reached Ranchi to take stock of the preparations. Later, he also headed to Nemra in Ramgarh to call upon chief minister Hemant Soren, who is currently camping there for shradh rituals of his father Shibu Soren, who passed away on Aug 4. State Congress media in-charge Rakesh Sinha said that as part of the AICC's decision against SIR, three tier campaign will be rolled out nationally. "Jharkhand too has worked out an extensive plan to make it a grand success," he said, adding that on Thursday, candlelight marches will be organised in all district headquarters which will be attended by senior leaders, MPs, MLAs, among others. "From Aug 22 to Sep 7 state-level rallies will be held in Ranchi and other key locations in Jharkhand," he said. Thereafter, between Sep 15 and Oct 15, door-to-door public outreach campaign will be conducted to collect 50 million signatures against 'SIR'. "District, block, and mandal-level party officials will lead this campaign in their respective areas, ensuring participation from the general public, community leaders, professionals, and local influencers," he said, adding that their campaign is more than a political programme to protect the Constitution and safeguard Indian democracy. Govt dragging its feet on immigrants: Motha MLA

Agartala: In a letter to Union HM Amit Shah, Tipra Motha Party legislator Ranjit Debbarma has accused the Tripura govt of dragging its feet on identifying and deporting illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. Debbarma is calling for the immediate implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state, citing a failure to adhere to the Centre's guidelines on establishing a Special Task Force (STF). Debbarma highlighted directives from the MHA issued on May 19, 2025, which mandated the detection and deportation of illegal migrants within 30 days. A follow-up order on May 28 urged state authorities and the Bureau of Immigration to act swiftly. Despite these directives, he claims the state govt has not set up detention camps or fully functional STFs across all districts. He criticized the existing STF for lacking central forces, civil administration officers, clear guidelines, and a dedicated headquarters, rendering it ineffective. Labeling the state's efforts as "an eyewash," Debbarma warned of ongoing large-scale infiltration, with some migrants allegedly engaging in "anti-India activities." He stressed that Tripura's and India's "national security and sovereignty" are at risk, urging the Centre to implement the NRC in Tripura, akin to the model used in Assam, with direct involvement from central police and administrative agencies. ‘Thanks EC For Unique Experience': Rahul Gandhi Has Tea With 7 'Dead' Voters From Bihar

Last Updated: Rahul Gandhi shared a video of meeting voters in Bihar who were declared "dead" by the Election Commission. Amid the escalating row over Bihar SIR, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday shared a video online in which he is seen interacting and having tea with some of the omitted persons who have been declared 'dead" in the revised draft voter list. Crediting the Election Commission for this 'unique experience," Gandhi said that he never got the chance to have tea with 'dead people.' Sharing the 3-4 minutes long video, Gandhi captioned, "There have been many interesting experiences in life, but I never got the chance to have tea with 'dead people.' For this unique experience, thank you, Election Commission!" — Rahul Gandhi (@RahulGandhi) August 13, 2025 In the video, the Lok Sabha LoP was seen asking them how they discovered the Election Commission had 'killed' them. "I have heard that you guys are not alive. The Election Commission has killed you," Gandhi said. One of the 'dead' said they found out only after the poll panel released a draft list of 65 lakh excluded names. Gandhi told one man, asking how many such cases exist. One person responded that in a single panchayat, there are at least 50 such instances. They alleged that in the constituency of RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, many living voters were shown as dead in the list provided by the Election Commission. The group also told Gandhi that they appeared before the Supreme Court on Wednesday to get their voting rights back. The apex court is hearing petitions against the special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. One of the group members urged the Congress MP and Mahagathbandhan alliance to "save Bihar" to which the LoP affirmed that they are trying to stop the electoral malpractices. The interaction came amid a row that erupted over Rahul Gandhi's "vote theft" allegations against the Election Commission and alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in poll-bound Bihar. During a press conference on August 7, Rahul Gandhi levelled 'vote chori" (vote theft) allegations against the Election Commission and BJP-ruled Centre, citing the Congress' internal analysis. The LoP stated that the Congress expected to win 16 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka but ended up with only nine. He said the Congress investigated seven unexpected losses, zeroing in on Mahadevapura, where he alleged vote theft involving 100,250 votes. Presenting Congress's research on voting in the Mahadevapura Assembly in Karnataka, Rahul Gandhi alleged "vote chori" (vote theft) of 100,250 votes. Meanwhile, the poll body has rejected the claims and demanded that Gandhi should submit proof of his allegations and a sign an affidavit. In a strong rebuttal last week, it said the Congress was trying to 'mislead" the people as they tried to mislead the Supreme Court in 2018, referring to part veteran Kamal Nath's plea. The Karnataka CEO on Sunday asked Congress MP Rahul Gandhi to submit documents to inquire into his "vote theft" allegations against the poll body. view comments Location : New Delhi, India, India First Published: August 13, 2025, 23:24 IST News india 'Thanks EC For Unique Experience': Rahul Gandhi Has Tea With 7 'Dead' Voters From Bihar Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
