Unwell firefighter taken to hospital after kitchen fire at Boon Lay flat, Singapore News
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told AsiaOne it was alerted to a kitchen fire in a fifth-floor unit at Block 197D Boon Lay Drive at about 6.20pm.
Photos and videos of the incident posted to Facebook show white smoke billowing into the air as firefighters arrived.
Residents had gathered at the playground and walkways below the block.
A reporter from Chinese publication 8world who was at the scene heard glass shattering. About 100 had evacuated, according to the report.
SCDF said the fire was extinguished with a water jet and a hose reel.
A firefighter experienced fatigue and felt unwell during the operation. He was assessed by a paramedic and taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital for further checks.
The firefighter has since been discharged and given three days of medical leave.
The fire was likely caused by unattended cooking, according to preliminary findings.
"SCDF would like to remind the public not to leave any cooking or heating activities unattended, and any gas or electric supply should be switched off when not in use," it added.

SINGAPORE: A vehicle fell into a large sinkhole that formed along Tanjong Katong Road South on 26 July 2025 at around 5pm, resulting in its female driver being taken to hospital. The incident has sparked widespread praise for migrant workers who were captured on video rescuing the woman from the flooded sinkhole. Photos and videos quickly spread across social media platforms, showing the car partially submerged in the water-filled sinkhole next to an active worksite. In one TikTok video, several migrant workers from a nearby site can be seen rushing to the scene without hesitation. According to an earlier Facebook post by PUB, Singapore's national water agency, the sinkhole emerged at the junction of Tanjong Katong Road and Mountbatten Road, affecting two lanes. The incident occurred next to an existing PUB worksite. PUB initially stated that the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) had carried out the rescue and conveyed the driver, who was conscious, to Raffles Hospital. Fire breaks out at Marine Crescent carpark, damages multiple vehicles
Three cars caught fire at a carpark in the Marine Parade area on July 24, with the fire also damaging other cars. The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it was alerted to the fire at 35A Marine Crescent at about 3.10pm that day. The fire on the second level of the multi-storey carpark was extinguished with two water jets. No injuries were reported. Based on preliminary findings, the three cars were not electric vehicles, said the SCDF. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC MP Goh Pei Ming thanked the emergency services for swiftly containing and putting out the fire.
