I AM hanging upside down and soaring through the air at 75mph – but it's the scenery that's really taken my breath away.

And I should know. After all, I have just taken it all in from a bird's eye viewpoint reaching thrilling heights of 985ft amid the coastal mountains, rolling hills and forests of Cilento National Park.
And it's now easier than ever to reach this region, in the province of Salerno, with British Airways having recently added a new BA Euroflyer (Gatwick short-haul) route to Salerno Costa d'Amalfi Airport.
Luckily, this slice of Italian paradise is not overpopulated with tourists like its widely known neighbours, Positano, Ravello and Sorrento.
So when I'm back on solid ground, I'm able to take in the sights of charming Trentinara away from the crowds.
Also known as the 'town of love', thanks to an ancient legend about doomed lovers, Trentinara has plenty to offer along its historic stone streets and winding alleyways (that are particularly appealing at sunset).
Among them, you'll find the warmly welcoming Paolino 848 — a wine bar and restaurant serving platters of antipasto, cheese with truffle honey (a revelation), filled focaccia and hearty meatballs.
I leave contentedly stuffed.
Trentinara's hill-top position means its panoramic piazza offers unbeatable views over the Cilento Coast and the Gulf of Salerno.
Just a 20-minute drive away is Paestum, a fascinating archaeological park and a must-see.
7 TOURIST DESTINATIONS - EVERGREEN LISTICLE
Here, in what was once a major ancient city founded by Greek colonists before it was captured by the Romans, stand three of the world's best-preserved ancient Greek temples.
I position myself alongside the columns of one of them, the magnificent Tempio di Nettuno, for a true sense of scale — and it dwarfs me.
The columns somewhat remind me of those in the lobby of the Savoy Hotel & Spa Paestum, not far from here, where I am staying.
Nestled among pine groves, just steps from the Tyrrhenian Sea, it's the perfect base for exploring.
It even has its own Beach Club 93, with plush cabanas, loungers, a pool, bar, restaurant and a private, sandy beach.
This 7,500sq ft sanctuary offers three temperature-controlled pools, a salt cave, ice room, Turkish bath and a number of treatment options. Within seconds in this space, I'm totally at ease
Sipping a cocktail here at sunset, gazing out across the sea, I've never felt more content. Apart from when I'm in the hotel's Holos Spa.

For dinner, there's a relaxed eatery, Bistrot Olivella, as well as a stunning Michelin-starred restaurant, Tre Olivi, which focuses on delicious ingredients from the hotel's impressive kitchen garden — my dining experience is unforgettable.
If you'd rather head out for food, the nearby La Dispensa di San Salvatore offers farm-to-table dining featuring the freshest fare from the San Salvatore farm. In the kitchen, Italian nonnas, make seasonal, sustainable dishes as their own mothers and grandmothers once did.
Nonna Lucia walks out to the sunny dining terrace where I'm sat and it's here, at the end of a group table, that she makes and shapes the fresh pasta that I'll soon be savouring (along with bowls of fresh salads, helpings of the finest buffalo mozzarella and wines including San Salvatore's award-winning Vetere rosé).
This is Italian food made with passion, freshness and authenticity.
No visit to Cilento is complete without a trip to the enchanting hilltop town of Castellabate.
Alleyways and cobbled streets weave through its ancient walls and its famed terrace offers panoramic views across the coastline and nearby villages.

It's from the nearby postcard-pretty fishing port, San Marco di Castellabate, that I take a boat trip along that coastline — calm turquoise waters, alluring beaches and haze-kissed mountains. San Marco's picturesque sister town, Santa Maria di Castellabate, is worth seeing too.
I can safely say this extraordinary region of southern Italy has wowed me on all fronts from every angle. Even upside down.

I went out in Cardiff on Friday night and had the best-tasting dish I've eaten in years
We're lucky in Cardiff to be spoiled rotten for choice when it comes to the quality of restaurants and places to eat. It wasn't always this way — and it wasn't that long ago people were bemoaning how badly the city lacked good places to eat. Now you can find half a dozen (at least) places with superb food in Cardiff Market alone. Then there's the city centre brasseries and neighbourhood Indian and Italian restaurants that have kept their loyal customers coming back again and again for years, the pop-ups serving lip-smacking street food from improbably small converted vans and the gastropubs being praised by national restaurant critics. Even some of the chains are excellent. You can see our pick of the best 55 restaurants in Cardiff here. And then you come to the "where to take someone on a special night out" level. Not so long ago, this category wouldn't have amounted to more than a small handful, now it's almost impossible to pick from the embarrasment of riches available. On Friday night, I found myself in one of those restaurants for a birthday. I had never been there before. Even before walking into Mesen, the evening was off to a great start, having called into another place I'd never been before, The Rhiwbina Tap, for a drink before food. It was bustling and had a great selection of beers from several excellent breweries. After a pint, I crossed the road to the restaurant for the main event. Mesen specialises in sharing dishes cooked over charcoal. If your eyes are already glazing over at the mention of "sharing dishes", resist the temptation to immediately stop reading this article — honestly, it's worth it! The weekly food menu is written in chalk on a blackboard in the simply-decorated restaurant, where you can sit on stools at the bar, the room's focal point, or at one of the handful of tables around it. Mesen also has a good reputation for its cocktails and I'm told you might even get one mixed for you ad hoc at the bar if you ask — but the cocktail menu itself has plenty to choose from so there's probably no need to do that. The wine list is good too. But, anyway, the food. The pleasingly short menu is bang on point, with dishes like "scallops, Marmite butter, black pudding" or "buffalo carrots, ranch, pickled celery, parmesan" immediately drawing comments at the table like "oh wow, that sounds amazing". The dishes are a fairly intuitive mix of small and large, meaty and vegetarian, so it's not too hard to choose a good mix of between four and six dishes, with staff on hand to advise anyway. Our hardest decision was whether to go for "pig's head" or t-bone steak as the main dish of the night, and we deferred to our server who went for the steak (we should have thanked her for excellent choice, though I'm sure the pig's head would have been great too). We also chose padron peppers with hummus (£8), the scallops with Marmite butter and black pudding (£13) and the buffalo carrots (£15). They were all superb. I eat about a wheelbarrow's worth of hummus every week and this still stood out. The black pudding came as crunchy crumbs, awash with the scallops in the moreish Marmite butter. And the carrots were massive, the size of chip shop jumbo sausages (I thought they were sweet potatoes when they first arrived). But the stand-out dish was the prawns in garlic and chilli butter. That description in no way comes close to doing justice to how good they tasted. The prawns had that wonderful charred flavour from being flame-cooked but the sauce was out of this world, silky smooth and amounting to way more than the sum of its parts. Long after the prawns were gone I scooped at the sauce with my fork to get as much of it into my mouth as I could (which is not that much when you're using a fork). I considered ordering something else from the menu to scoop it up with. I think it's been years since I've eaten anything that tasted as good. This deliciousness doesn't come cheap. Our bill for two (which included one chocolate cake dessert and a £45 bottle of wine) came in just short of £200. That's hefty. But it's the food I've been talking about enthusiastically ever since, not the bill.

But it ended in disaster when she slipped on wet grass and broke her leg during a stormy family walk on the eve of her big day. Lisa, from Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, said: 'Me and my son who is seven were walking along laughing at how much water there was that came off the hills. 'As I turned the corner, it wasn't even much of a slope at all, my foot must have slipped on the wet grass. That's all I can put it down to. 'As my foot flew it stopped and then it turned back on itself right underneath me and I heard the whole of my leg just break. I heard the snap. 'I was trying to keep it all together and not pass out. I knew instantly that it was broken. 'All that was going through my head was, 'tomorrow is my wedding day.' 'They managed to get me up on this picnic bench. I couldn't put any weight on it. It was a floppy mess. It looked like there were no bones in the bottom of my leg. It was awful. 'They say childbirth is the worst pain. This has taken over that pain. It was unbearable." The mum-of-two, who works as a florist, was rushed to Mull and Iona Community Hospital by her now husband, Ian Whitaker, 39, where doctors X-rayed her leg. I'm a Celtic-daft bride – I called off the big day but I still celebrated in my wedding dress at Parkhead Medics told her she had broken her tibia, ankle and femur and would need to be airlifted to the mainland for treatment. But she would not be moved until the following day due to the extreme weather - allowing Lisa to salvage her island wedding. The bride-to-be, who had her heart set on marrying Ian on their chosen date, contacted their registrar to ask if he could marry them at the hospital and he was happy to oblige. Ward staff also helped to make her day special by decorating her room with lights leftover from Christmas and garlands made from surgical gloves. The happy couple got married on the morning of August 5 like they had planned and a few hours later Lisa went to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley by air ambulance. After doctors performed surgery on her leg, Lisa is now having physiotherapy and hopes to be discharged this week. Recalling her unusual big day, she said: 'I was adamant that I was off to the castle. That's where we were getting married. 'The nurses were like, 'Lisa, we can't get you there. We can't even get you there in a wheelchair because there's no access. It's all steps up to the castle.' 2 After Lisa broke her leg, the couple tied the knot in hospital instead Credit: Kennedy News 'We didn't have to carry on with the wedding, we could have postponed it until next year. Many brides wouldn't want anything other than perfect whereas this was perfect for us.' The couple went on their first date to the cinema more than 14 years ago and have been engaged for 10 years. They decided to get married in Scotland because it is their favourite place to come on a caravan holiday and luckily their six guests were able to watch them say 'I do' in hospital. And the wedding venue has even allowed Lisa to transfer her booking to next year for a one-year anniversary vow renewal. She said: 'We'd seen it [the venue] on a previous holiday, we'd been to look at it. 'Scotland is our favourite place to come with the kids and the Isle of Mull means so much to us. It was a dream location for us. 'I am devastated that I couldn't get married there in the end but the staff at the hospital who were with me made it perfect. 'At the end of the day it's about us not about the materialistic surroundings. The nurses were just fabulous.' Doctors in Paisley inserted a rod in Lisa's leg during surgery on August 7 and she is now working on walking on her leg. Lisa said: 'Obviously when a bride thinks of her wedding day it's not like this. 'There were a lot of emotions taking off waving to my husband after only just being married. 'I'm a florist so I should have been making my bridal bouquet about half an hour after the incident. 'In the end my dad and my daughter made them for me and they were so much more special. 'To be honest if I'd not gotten married I would have been even more gutted I think. 'The way it all happened was perfect for me and has brought us even closer than ever. 'The vows are for better and for worse. We've been through the worse.'
