Thousands of speeding drivers caught on Essex roads in three-month period
Between April and June of this year, Essex Police caught 6,914 drivers exceeding the speed limit across the county.
The figures are the result of force-wide action supported by civilian speed enforcement officers and specialist teams.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: "Between April and June, our Roads Policing Unit, supported by our civilian speed enforcement officers and other specialist teams, have carried out road checks across Essex.
"These checks took place in towns and villages to improve the safety of our road network and focussed on areas where speeding and collisions are more likely to take place.
"In just three months, 6,914 drivers were caught speeding. That's 1,692 in April, 2,504 in May, and 2,718 in June.
"Speeding is one of the contributing factors to fatal collisions. Even a small increase in speed can lead to longer stopping distances and if you are involved in a crash, more serious injuries.
"In the same three-month period between April and June, we also recorded 7,602 road offences. These include driving under the influence, careless or dangerous driving, and MOT or insurance violations.
"Each of these offences carries serious consequences from fines and penalty points to, in some cases, imprisonment.
"People living in these areas have welcomed the extra checks. Many say it makes them feel safer."
The force has warned that enforcement and road safety checks will continue across Essex throughout the summer months as part of Vision Zero, a joint project with road safety partners to have no fatal collisions by 2040 or sooner.

Protest held outside Canary Wharf hotel housing asylum seekers
A demonstration has been held outside a hotel used to accommodate asylum seekers in a wealthy financial district of London. Protesters – a mixture of men wearing face masks and families with children – waved flags and listened to speeches outside the Britannia International Hotel in Canary Wharf. Chants of 'send them home' broke out while one man rattled the metal fence outside the hotel in full view of police officers. Tourists, shoppers and guests at a nearby hotel stopped to take pictures of the spectacle. It is the latest in a series of demonstrations over the use of hotels to house asylum seekers. On Saturday, the Metropolitan Police made nine arrests after rival groups gathered outside the Thistle City Barbican Hotel in Islington, north London. A protest and counter-protest also took place in Newcastle outside the New Bridge Hotel and four people were arrested on suspicion of public order offences, Northumbria Police said. Scotland Yard said plans were in place to 'respond to any protest activity in the vicinity of other hotels in London being used to accommodate asylum seekers'.

Man charged with kidnap after reports of firearms being discharged
A MAN has been charged with kidnap after reports of a firearm being discharged. Thomas Pasquariello, 18, of Westmill Road in Ware is charged with kidnap, threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a private place, possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, and assault by beating. Officers were called with reports of a disturbance and the sound of a firearm being discharged in the area of Barn Mead, Harlow, at about 4pm last Thursday. Officers quickly made enquiries to establish the circumstances of the report and arrested Pasquariello on Friday morning. He has been remanded in custody to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on September 2. Essex Police is appealing for further witnesses who may be able to assist in the investigation. PC Cameron Oliver said: 'Our work to make this case as strong as possible is ongoing. 'I'm asking anyone in the area of Barn Mead playing fields between 3pm and 4.45pm to get in touch if they have information about this incident. Police issue major update after violent brawl in Newport
Six men and one teenager have been charged with violent disorder following a brawl in Commercial Road in Newport on Friday afternoon, August 1. An eighth arrest has also been made by Gwent Police, which confirmed the 40-year-old man remained in custody at this time. Officers were called to the scene of violence in Pillgwenlly at around 3pm on August 1. All six men charged have been remanded in custody and will appear at Newport Magistrates' Court on Monday, August 4. "Officers were called to Commercial Road after a group of men were seen fighting in the street at around 3.20pm. "Six men, aged 25, 28, 33, 45, 42 and 52, and one 17-year-old boy who are all from Newport were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. "All seven have been charged with violent disorder, the six men will be remanded into custody while the 17-year-old boy has been released on police bail. "All seven are due to appear at Newport Magistrates' Court on Monday 4 August. "An eighth person - a 40-year-old man from Newport - has also been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and is currently in police custody." Chief Superintendent John Davies said: "I hope that these charges show our communities that we are heavily invested in responding to and investigating reports of crime and that we are committed to helping keep the streets of Gwent safe. "A large number of officers have worked tirelessly to investigate and secure these charges, and we will continue to work with our partners to identify the issues and tackle the causes surrounding this incident.
