Bucks police arrest seven drivers for drink and drug offences
Seven drivers were arrested for drink and drug offences in Milton Keynes in one night. Between the Roads Policing Unit and local policing teams, six drink drivers and one drug driver were caught in a three-hour period. Two of the drink drivers had been involved in "serious collisions," police said. A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: "Clearly something was in the air tonight in Milton Keynes. "Between RPU officers and our local policing colleagues from TVP Milton Keynes, we arrested six drink drivers and one drug driver in the space of around three hours. "Two of the drink drivers had been involved in serious collisions, where it is only by pure luck that they did not manage to kill themselves or innocent members of the public. "There is no excuse for it - if you are going to have a drink, make sure you have alternate plans to get home."

Thousands of speeding drivers caught on Essex roads in three-month period
THOUSANDS of speeding drivers have been caught on Essex's roads over the past three month, fresh figures reveal Between April and June of this year, Essex Police caught 6,914 drivers exceeding the speed limit across the county. The figures are the result of force-wide action supported by civilian speed enforcement officers and specialist teams. We're now on WhatsApp! Join our new channel at to get all the latest breaking news and exclusive stories delivered straight to your phone. A spokesperson for Essex Police said: "Between April and June, our Roads Policing Unit, supported by our civilian speed enforcement officers and other specialist teams, have carried out road checks across Essex. "These checks took place in towns and villages to improve the safety of our road network and focussed on areas where speeding and collisions are more likely to take place. "In just three months, 6,914 drivers were caught speeding. That's 1,692 in April, 2,504 in May, and 2,718 in June. "Speeding is one of the contributing factors to fatal collisions. Even a small increase in speed can lead to longer stopping distances and if you are involved in a crash, more serious injuries. "In the same three-month period between April and June, we also recorded 7,602 road offences. These include driving under the influence, careless or dangerous driving, and MOT or insurance violations. "Each of these offences carries serious consequences from fines and penalty points to, in some cases, imprisonment. "People living in these areas have welcomed the extra checks. Many say it makes them feel safer." The force has warned that enforcement and road safety checks will continue across Essex throughout the summer months as part of Vision Zero, a joint project with road safety partners to have no fatal collisions by 2040 or sooner.

Raft of vehicles seized from rogue drivers in Monaghan as gardaí hunt gang behind botched weekend raid
Four cars were taken off the road in a single day by officers attached to the county's Roads Policing Unit in Carrickmacross. Among the offences detected were for no insurance and learner drivers being found at the wheel without a fully qualified licence holder alongside them. A garda spokesperson also confirmed one of the motorists stopped and spoken to by gardaí, was later arrested on suspicion of driving under an intoxicant. 'Monaghan Roads Policing unit in the Carrickmacross District seized four vehicles under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act in a single day last week for no insurance and learner drivers unaccompanied,' said the spokesperson. 'One of the drivers was arrested on suspicion of intoxicated driving.' Separately, gardaí have issued a public appeal in connection to botched attempts by thieves to steal Eir cable along a stretch of Threemilehouse Road, just past the county town's Rossmore Park entrance during the early hours of Friday morning. Gardaí are satisfied the culprits behind the abandoned raid were travelling in a red Northern Ireland registered Audi. As such, gardaí are hoping assistance and eye witness evidence from passing motorists and members of the public who were in the area at the time, could hold the key in brokering a breakthrough in the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Monaghan Garda Station on 047-77200 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
