'Mujhe itna dar laga…': When Salman Khan warned fans not to follow his ‘Tere Naam' character
's portrayal of Radhe in the 2003 cult classic Tere Naam remains one of his most talked-about performances. But behind the intensity and heartbreak of the character was a very real fear, not for himself, but for his fans.
Earlier Salman revealed in a conversation on Aap Ki Adalat, how deeply uneasy he felt about playing Radhe, a tragically obsessive lover. 'Mujhe itna dar laga, ki maine socha mai ye nahi karunga,' he admitted, reflecting on how the disturbing nature of Radhe's character made him reconsider even taking up the role.
'Don't Be Like Radhe,' Warns Salman
Salman went on to explain that Tere Naam marked the first time in his career where he had planned how to promote the film before shooting even began.
His message was clear: 'Ye picture zaroor dekhna, but is character ko kabhi follow mat karna' — watch the movie, but don't imitate the character.
Calling Radhe a 'loser,' Salman highlighted how the character destroys his own life in blind obsession over a girl. 'Yeh ek ladki ke piche pagal ho raha hai aur apni zindagi barbad kar diya… age badho life me,' he urged his fans. He feared that Radhe's extreme actions like stalking and emotional turmoil might be misinterpreted as signs of true love by impressionable viewers.
Reel vs. Real: Style, Not Substance
Salman's hairstyle, fashion, and intense expressions in the film became iconic — aspects Salman said fans could follow. But he stressed drawing the line between on-screen dramatics and real-life behavior.
Coming to present, Salman Khan was recently seen in the action entertainer film 'Sikandar' which received mediocre reviews from the audiences. The movie was directed by AR Murugadoss.

Social media is buzzing with reactions — fans are seen in tears during the emotional climax, while others are celebrating its music through viral dance reels. The film has clearly struck a chord across age groups. Veteran trade analyst Taran Adarsh weighed in on the phenomenon with a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter): "'SAIYAARA' REBOOTS - RE-ENERGISES - REJUVENATES THE INDUSTRY... Yes, #Saiyaara is rewriting the record books… It's drawing audiences in hordes – and that, in itself, is a hugely positive sign for the industry... But more than just the numbers, the learnings from #Saiyaara are invaluable" Live Events — amit_code (@amit_code) Adarsh noted that the industry had drifted away from making heartfelt, youth-driven stories that resonate beyond just metro audiences. He pointed out a crucial reality check: "We blamed the audience for empty theatres, but the fault lies within the stopped making the kind of films that compel the youth to flock to cinemas in hundreds and thousands – not just in metros, but even in Tier-2 and Tier-3 centres." "We stopped making youth-centric films that appeal not only to the younger generation, but also to families and seniors [myself included]. We stopped making films that moved us," he wrote ackowledging that the finale moved him to tears. Adarsh added, "We stopped focusing on content – the very first step in the filmmaking process... We sidelined melodies that linger, treating music as mere filler. For many, star power became the be-all and end-all – and the neglect in writing and music was clearly visible. A young love story, driven by great music and heartfelt emotions, will always find its audience." — taran_adarsh (@taran_adarsh) While praising YRF , he said, "YRF, a banner synonymous with love stories, now has another massive blockbuster in its catalogue – a love story, once again... But this time, it stars two rank newcomers and is helmed by the supremely talented #MohitSuri."
