The main event in Johannesburg will be a must-see first-round matchup in the Featherweight Division, with Nigeria's Patrick Ocheme (6-1) taking on Guinea's Mohamed Camarta (5-2-1), while the co-main event will be Angola's Shido Boris Esperanca (9-1) facing Gambia's Ibrahima Mané (14-5).
In Cape Town, fans were treated to a spectacular night of fights as African stars and international athletes all competed under the bright lights of the Grand West Casino and Entertainment World.
The show featured the PFL Champions Series: Road to Dubai, with renowned names like Dakota Ditcheva, AJ McKee, Corey Anderson, and Costello van Steenis helping to get the crowd on their feet and excited once again after Cape Town was starved of high-level MMA following the EFC's decision to only host shows in Johannesburg.
In the main event, Spain's Van Steenis pulled off one of the biggest comeback wins in MMA history, submitting previously undefeated Johnny Eblen (USA) with just seconds left in the fifth and final round to become the new PFL Middleweight World Champion.
In the co-main event, 2024 PFL Women's Flyweight Champion Ditcheva of the United Kingdom put on a striking masterclass as she outstruck Sumiko Inaba of the United States to earn a unanimous decision victory.
Next week's PFL Africa fight card - which includes eight tournament fights and two extra alternate bouts - takes place on Saturday, August 9 and starts at 6 pm SAST (noon EST).
The event will be aired on SuperSport (Africa - English) | Canal+ (Africa - French) and the PFL App (U.S.).
Tickets can be purchased on TicketPro: https://shop.ticketpro.co.za/event/pfl-africa-ijy7qt.

Calls grow for Athletics South Africa board to resign over money scandal

Calls grow for Athletics South Africa board to resign over money scandal A storm is brewing in South African athletics as a group calling itself 'concerned athletes and administrators' calls for the immediate resignation of the Athletics South Africa (ASA) board during a fiery press conference in Milpark on July 28. Citing deep-rooted governance failures and alleged misuse of funds, the group, led by ASA board member Dorah Mgwevu, athletics administrator Ernest Moikangoe, and athlete Keneilwe Sesing, issued a bold ultimatum that ASA President James Moloi and his board have seven days to step down or face protest action. 'We, the concerned stakeholders, administrators, civil society organisations and citizens of South Africa, demand the immediate resignation of the ASA leadership, including the CEO and entire board of directors,' said Moikangoe. ALSO READ: South African youth lead the way in international cue sports and athletics The veteran official said this follows recent allegations that Moloi had used ASA funds for personal gain. This was revealed last month during an oversight hearing by Parliament's Sports, Arts and Culture portfolio committee. The hearing quizzed Moloi about using the federation's credit card at various taverns and liquor stores. 'The findings presented in parliament are a national embarrassment and betrayal of public trust. They paint a picture of an organisation in complete disarray where corruption, neglect of athletes, and gross abuse of funds have become institutionalised. 'We can no longer tolerate a leadership that has repeatedly failed to safeguard the integrity of sport in South Africa.' The group demands the appointment of an interim committee and the launch of a full forensic investigation by the Special Investigating Unit into ASA financial activities from 2020 to 2025. ALSO READ: Sport minister vows action over missing Boxing SA retirement fund 'Our sport is not a fiefdom for thieves and opportunists. ASA is meant to serve athletes – not to fund parties, taverns and corrupt deals,' Moikangoe said. Should the ASA board fail to resign within seven days, Moikangoe said the group will stage a protest at ASA headquarters and petition World Athletics to suspend the federation until their demands are met. Mgwevu echoed Moikangoe's sentiments, saying Moloi should step aside to allow SASCOC's investigation into ASA's financial irregularities – including whether funds were misused – to proceed without his interference. 'The president must step aside. We are aware of the ongoing investigation. 'How do we have this investigation when the accused person still has access to information and witnesses? Will this be a fair investigation? 'We appeal for Moloi to step aside and allow this investigation to take place fairly.' ALSO READ: Ithembelihle learners and teachers unite for sports day In a statement, ASA condemned the press briefing, saying it was reviewing the matters raised in parliament. 'ASA is currently reviewing the recent matters raised in parliament and has pledged to fully cooperate with the SASCOC investigation. 'We are committed to transparency and accountability. We will work closely with SASCOC to address any concerns.'

Another Orlando Pirates reject heading to Kaizer Chiefs?

Kaizer Chiefs could be signing a fourth ex-Orlando Pirates player in recent seasons. A former Amakhosi star has suggested it. Former Chiefs defender Mokete Tsotetsi says that Zakhele Lepasa should be on their wish list. 28-year-old Lepasa left Pirates last week after seven years with the Buccaneers. Orlando Pirates get R31 million EFT, but it comes at a HUGE cost! Zakhele Lepasa could be the fourth player to trade Pirates for Chiefs in recent seasons after Bongani Sam and new signings Thabiso Monyane and Paseka Mako. 'Lepasa is one of the quality strikers, and he did well for Pirates when he was given a chance,' Tsotetsi told Soccer Laduma . 'He is not a reject from Pirates. He did not get enough game time, and sometimes when you are out, you find that the team gels, and it's difficult for you to break into the team after being sidelined with an injury. 'But I see he has recovered, and because Chiefs have not been able to get [Khanyisa] Mayo for now, I think Lepasa has something to give,' Tsotetsi added. 'If he can be given a chance at Chiefs, I think he can do well and revive his career. 'Also, it depends on what type of striker coach Nabi would want. We will have to wait and see,' he concluded. Orlando Pirates' best XI WITHOUT Mofokeng and Nkota revealed? Click for more on the chase for Velebayi and Baartman New man Flavio Silva has given birth to plenty of memes online after his poor performances in pre-season in the Netherlands, but we'll give him time for now. Relatively new arrival Tashreeq Morris is a veteran of the South African scene but hardly a long-term option at 31. Also, he's never been the most prolific player. For all of his industry and hard work, 28-year-old Ashley Du Preez is also not the answer. Can Etiosa Ighodaro come in and buck this trend, and will Chiefs even pull off a deal for the 24-year-old Nigerian?
