Storm beat Dream at Vancouver's Rogers Arena in first WNBA regular-season game on Canadian soil
Skylar Diggins had 21 points and 11 assists and the Seattle Storm hung on to beat the Atlanta Dream 80-78 to end a six-game skid on Friday night at Rogers Arena in Vancouver in the first Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) regular-season game outside of the United States.
Nneka Ogwumike scored 15 points, Brittney Sykes added 13 and Dominique Malonga had 12 points and eight rebounds as the Storm (17-17) squandered a 15-point lead before snapping Atlanta's six-game win streak.
Rhyne Howard scored 21 points and Brionna Jones had 18 points and 10 rebounds for Atlanta (21-12).
The game, held in a city that has neither a WNBA or NBA team of its own, had created a buzz of anticipation in Vancouver.

The Storm led 60-45 with 3:25 left in the third quarter. Erica Wheeler, with a second left in the quarter, threw an inbounds pass to Diggins for a 3-pointer as time expired to give the Storm a 67-55 lead.
But Seattle went scoreless for nearly five minutes to open the fourth and Nia Coffey made a layup that gave Atlanta a 71-69 lead with 4:21 to play.
Howard, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 draft, hit a 3-pointer in the first quarter to break the Dream's career record for made 3s with 326. Tiffany Hayes (325) previously held the record.
The Dream, who went into the game averaging 9.6 made 3s per game, hit 2 of 13 from behind the arc.
Jordin Canada (hamstring) did not play for Atlanta.
Howard scored 25 points Wednesday to help the Dream beat the Storm 85-75 in Seattle.
The Storm concludes a three-game home stand Sunday against Phoenix. The Dream play at Golden State on Sunday.

Brian White scored on a penalty kick in the sixth minute for the Whitecaps (13-6-7, 46 points). The Dynamo (7-11-8, 29 points), who lost 3-0 at home to Vancouver on July 16, tied it in the opening seconds of stoppage time. Lawrence Ennali dribbled the ball down the left wing and sent a pass back to Amine Bassi at the top corner of the 18-yard box. Bassi spotted Artur joining the play and dropped a pass for him to unleash a shot from 25 yards that made its way through a maze of players and just out of the reach of diving goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka and inside the left post. Muller, the 35-year-old German superstar who scored 250 goals in all competitions for Bayern Munich over 17 seasons, received a standing ovation from Vancouver's fans when he came on as a substitute in the 61st minute. Muller sent the crowd into a frenzy less than two minutes later when he appeared to score on a half-volley from 20 yards, but White was ruled to be offside on the initial pass into the penalty area and the goal was disallowed. White's goal came after Jayden Nelson was tripped by Houston's Griffin Dorsey while driving the end line on the left wing. White put the ensuing penalty into the middle of the net as Dynamo goalie Jonathan Bond dove to his right. Houston nearly got the equalizer in the 15th minute. Jack McGlynn played a short corner kick from the right wing, got the ball back and whipped a cross to the far post. The ball deflected off defender Mathias Laborda and Takaoka had to make a kick save to avoid an own goal. The Whitecaps nearly doubled their advantage in the closing minutes of the first half. First, Nelson hit the left post in the 45th minute on a sliding attempt after Edier Ocampo's low cross from the right wing on a counterattack. In stoppage time, Bond made a diving save on a 12-yard shot by White and Emmanuel Sabbi's rebound attempt from 15 yards grazed the top of the crossbar on its way into the stands.

Rise surprise AFC Toronto with 1-0 NSL road win
TORONTO – Jessica De Filippo pounced on a misplayed ball in the first minute of the second half to score the winning goal as the short-handed Vancouver Rise surprised first-place AFC Toronto 1-0 in Northern Super League action at BMO Field on Sunday. Despite playing one player short for the entire second half — Jasmyne Spencer was ejected from the match for fouls in the 29th and 39th minutes — the visitors were able to contain the Toronto offence. Rise goalkeeper Morgan McAslan made five saves to record the clean sheet. Vancouver improved to 6-5-5, while Toronto slipped to 10-6-2. Toronto controlled possession for 54 per cent of the match, but were outshot 12-9, including 6-5 on-target. Toronto took eight of the match's 10 corners. Alyssa Thomas has 5th triple-double of the season as Mercury beat Storm 85-82
SEATTLE (AP) — Alyssa Thomas had 19 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds for her 16th career triple-double in the regular season, and the Phoenix Mercury beat the Seattle Storm 85-82 on Sunday. Thomas has five of the 10 triple-doubles in the WNBA this season and 20 of the 53 (counting regular season and playoffs) in league history. Kahleah Copper scored 17 points and Sami Whitcomb added 15 for Phoenix (20-13). Satou Sabally had 11 points and 10 rebounds, and DeWanna Bonner scored 10 points. Nneka Ogwumike led Seattle (17-18) with 24 points and Skylar Diggins scored 14. Gabby Williams had 13 points and seven assists, and Erica Wheeler added 11 points. Ogwumike poked the ball away from Whitcomb and made a follow shot moments later to tie it at 75-all with 3:57 left in the game — the first tie since 2-2. Wheeler hit a 3-pointer with 2:20 remaining that gave the Storm their first lead of the game.
