Sidney Crosby has been the face of the Pittsburgh Penguins for nearly two decades, but the latest NHL trade rumors suggest a potential shift. Despite being under contract through the 2026-27 season, the future of the 37-year-old Penguins captain is once again under heavy speculation—especially with the Montreal Canadiens and Colorado Avalanche emerging as serious contenders.
Penguins rebuild raises questions about Sidney Crosby's future
Crosby's longtime teammate Evgeni Malkin is entering the final year of his four-year, $24.4 million deal, and insiders believe the Penguins may not extend him. This has fueled speculation that a full rebuild is on the horizon. In 2022, Malkin hinted at the transition, saying, 'If this team wants new blood… we will see.'
Greg Wyshynski of ESPN recently added fuel to the fire by predicting that if the Penguins struggle early in the 2025-26 season, Crosby could be moved before the trade deadline.
Although Crosby has not publicly expressed a desire to leave, his silence hasn't stopped NHL insiders and fans from speculating.
Crosby linked to Canadiens and Avalanche amid escalating NHL trade rumors
According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, multiple teams have shown interest in acquiring Crosby, but two names keep resurfacing—the Montreal Canadiens and the Colorado Avalanche.
The Avalanche connection stems from Crosby's close friendship with Nathan MacKinnon. The duo recently led Team Canada to victory at the 4 Nations Face-Off, reigniting buzz about reuniting in Colorado.
However, MacKinnon recently shut down rumors of Crosby joining the Avs, calling it fake news.
Meanwhile, the Montreal Canadiens appear to be a more realistic destination. Crosby, a Nova Scotia native, grew up idolizing the Habs, and multiple analysts—including Wyshynski and Nick Kypreos—believe Montreal could be his final NHL stop after the 2026 Winter Olympics.

The 31-year-old was seen leaving the field soon after, prompting fears about a possible ankle injury. Although he returned within 20 minutes, he looked uncomfortable and was unable to bowl until after the Tea break due to ICC playing conditions. Manchester weather forecast - Rain, chilly winds in store on Day 4 and Day 5 The tension grew when Mohammed Siraj also appeared to be in discomfort, struggling to complete his 22nd over before limping off for treatment. Siraj, however, returned to the field later in the session, easing some of India's immediate worries. India's pace attack has already been hit hard in this series, with Arshdeep Singh, Akash Deep and Nitish Kumar Reddy ruled out due to various injuries. Debutant Anshul Kamboj was drafted in as a replacement, but India's resources continued to be tested on a challenging day. 'Beyond India now': Former England cricketer says Jasprit Bumrah needs more support, questions Shubman Gill's bowling tactics

Shubman Gill and Jasprit Bumrah (Getty Images) India's hopes of levelling the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy suffered a major blow on Day 3 of the fourth Test at Old Trafford, with Joe Root's masterful 150 putting England in a dominant position. England ended the day at 544/7, leading by 186 runs, leaving India with a massive challenge heading into the final two days. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Former England batter Jonathan Trott pinpointed the lack of support for Jasprit Bumrah as a key factor in India's struggles. Poll Do you think India can overcome the deficit in the final two days of the Test? Yes, they can turn it around No, it's unlikely It depends on the weather 'Bumrah's areas were pretty good, and his economy reflects that — he was just a bit unlucky. But the bigger issue is pressure from both ends,' Trott said on JioHotstar. 'He benefits massively when there's support at the other end, and that wasn't the case today. When you're slightly under par as a bowling unit — like India were — control from both ends becomes crucial.' Manchester weather forecast - Rain, chilly winds in store on Day 4 and Day 5 Despite Bumrah's efforts — possibly in his final Test of the series due to workload management — India's seamers collectively bowled 83 overs for just three wickets, while spin accounted for four in just 52 overs. Trott questioned India's bowling combination, especially the delay in bringing on Washington Sundar and the absence of injured pacer Akash Deep. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Brain tumor has left my son feeling miserable; please help! 'Shubman is on his first trip to England and has been thrown into the deep end as captain. He fought well in the first three Tests, but this match feels slightly beyond India considering the challenges and limited resources.' Why India played wrong team for Manchester Test; Kuldeep Yadav missed! Trott also praised Root's batting evolution, noting how he's found a balance between Bazball flair and traditional technique: 'He experimented early on with ramps and reverse scoops, but he's settled now. His game is solid and adaptable. He's stuck to what works.' Meanwhile, Sanjay Manjrekar urged India to keep fighting and look for positives. 'India won't think of a draw. If the sun stays out, they'll look to score big and flip the pressure. But the surface is showing signs of uneven bounce — that could be a factor,' Manjrekar noted. Ahead of Test series in India, West Indies to hold week-long camp in Ahmedabad

Roston Chase (Image credit: AFP) MUMBAI: Ahead of their two-Test tour of India in Oct this year, the West Indies team will hold a week-long camp and are likely to play a warm-up match too at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The first Test of the series, which will kick off India's 2025-26 home international season in which they will also host South Africa and New Zealand later, is scheduled to be played from Oct 2-6 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The second Test of the series will be played at the Arun Jaitely Stadium in Delhi from Oct 10-14. "The West Indies Cricket Board requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India if the Caribbean team could hold one week-camp and play a practice match in Ahmedabad to prepare for the series. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! The BCCI has agreed to their request after checking with us. We said that we were happy to host the West Indies team for the camp and the warm-up match here," Gujarat Cricket Association secretary Anil Patel told TOI on Friday. It's not clear against which team the West Indies will play the practice tie against-it could be against the local Gujarat team or against a BCCI selectors' picked side. Captained by allrounder Roston Chase and coached by former West Indies allrounder Daren Sammy, the beleaguered West Indies team lost the three-Test series 3-0 to the might Australia home in June-July, and were shot out for merely 27 in the second innings of the third and final (pink-ball) Test of the series at the Sabina Park in Jamaica.
