Chime Introduces Instant Loans

Leading consumer financial technology company Chime® announced today the launch of Instant Loans—a product that provides instant access to up to $500 in funds with a fixed interest rate that is lower than what's typically observed in the industry. Like all of Chime's services, Instant Loans is easy to use and transparent, and unlike some other loan products, there is no credit check to qualify. Instead, Chime leverages its proprietary technology platform and rich data sources to help determine eligibility. On-time payments can also help members build credit over time.
Instant Loans offers three-month installment loans up to $500 to pre-approved Chime members who receive direct deposits to their Chime Checking Account. Members are pre-approved for a loan and notified of their eligibility within the Chime app. Once accepted, eligible members gain instant access to the loan funds. When compared to other types of liquidity products on the market, Instant Loans enables consumers to borrow at potentially half the cost, and with the added flexibility of having up to three times longer to repay. 1 Chime's Instant Loans has no late fees or compound interest, just a fixed interest rate of $5 per month for every $100 borrowed, paid back in three monthly payments of $35.00 per $100 borrowed (29.76% annual percentage rate). For greater ease, repayments can be automated and are designed to not exceed 10% of monthly member cash inflows to ensure affordability. Chime also reports on-time payment history to credit reporting agencies, allowing members to build credit. Participants who pay on time may see their credit score increase by 10-30 points, validated by a prior simulation conducted with Experian 2.
'We are relentlessly focused on helping everyday people achieve financial progress,' said Madhu Muthukumar, Chime's Chief Product Officer. 'Our members have told us that they want simple and transparent tools to access money when they need it, and to help them build credit — and we're excited Instant Loans provides both to our members.'
Instant Loans is Chime's latest innovation, building on its commitment to enabling financial progress through products centered around consumer needs. In 2024, Chime announced the launch of MyPay, which lets eligible members access up to $500 3 of their pay before payday with no interest 4 and no credit check. Since its official launch in July 2024, MyPay has helped members access billions of dollars. SpotMe 5, which allows Chime members to overdraw their account without fees, also surpassed a major milestone in 2024, covering more than $30 billion in transactions. The Chime Checking Account was one of the first full-featured accounts to disrupt the traditional banking industry by offering fee-free overdrafts with the launch of SpotMe. Similarly, millions of people have increased their credit scores since opening a Chime Credit Builder Visa® Credit Card, which doesn't charge interest or require a credit check or minimum security deposit.

Mortgage move to save $29,705 after RBA interest rate cut provides 'breathing room' for millions

The Big Four banks have confirmed they will pass on the Reserve Bank of Australia's (RBA) cash rate cut to borrowers in full in the coming weeks. But if you've been managing with your current repayments, the cut could be an opportunity to pay off your loan quicker and save thousands. The 25 basis point cut means owner-occupiers with a $600,000 mortgage and 25 years remaining could save $91 a month on their repayments. That's based on an average rate of 5.8 per cent being cut to 5.55 per cent. But if they opted to keep their monthly repayments the same, Vanguard calculations found borrowers could pay off their loan more than a year earlier and save $29,705 in interest over the life of the loan. RELATED RBA cuts interest rates delivering cash boost for millions of mortgage holders Centrelink warning for downsizing Baby Boomers over 'special' retirement rule Westpac CEO admits bank was 'wrong' about branch closures Vanguard Australia chief of personal investor Renae Smith said the rate cut could provide a valuable opportunity for the future for those in a position to do so. 'With cost-of-living pressures continuing to bite, this rate cut offers some welcome breathing room for many households,' Smith said. It's an approach millions of borrowers have already taken, with Commonwealth Bank, NAB and ANZ revealing that around one in 10 borrowers had opted to lower their repayments following the May rate is the only one of the Big Four banks that automatically drops repayments for customers paying the minimum amount. The rest of the Big Four banks require customers to ask to lower repayments. Nexus Loans mortgage broker Jessie Boyce said the strategy could suit borrowers who had some financial breathing room and didn't need immediate cashflow relief. 'It's particularly smart for those with long loan terms or owner-occupied properties, where building equity can support future goals like upgrading, renovating, or investing,' she told Yahoo Finance. 'Alternatively, for those wanting more flexibility, parking extra funds in an offset account is a great option — especially for investors or anyone planning to invest in the future. 'It still reduces the interest payable but keeps the funds fully accessible. This is also more tax-effective for investment properties, as it preserves loan deductibility while reducing interest.' Other ways to use RBA cut to your advantage Smith said redirecting savings from the RBA cut to paying off credit card debt or investing could be other options. Vanguard found that using the $91 to make extra repayments on a $4,500 credit card debt could mean you save $7,841 in interest compared to just making the minimum repayments. If you stuck to the bare minimum repayments, it could take you 32 years and 10 months to pay off the debt and cost you a whopping $15,862. Funnelling your savings towards paying it off would cut that down to 7 years and 5 months. Investing the savings in the share market could be a way to build long-term wealth, based on historical market performance. Using the historical 8 per cent average annual return of the S&P ASX All Ordinaries Total Return Index over the last two decades, Vanguard found monthly investments of $91 would have grown to $87,211 over the last 25 years. Smith encouraged Aussies to seek advice from a qualified financial adviser before making any decisions and noted there was no one-size-fits-all answer. 'But what's clear is that even small changes in financial behaviour, like redirecting savings from a rate cut to investing, can have a meaningful impact over time,' she said.

China's $11 Trillion Stock Market Is Staging a Quiet Resurgence

Chinese stocks have gained ground in recent months despite a lack of major catalysts, with ample domestic liquidity likely to sustain the rally. Mainland households, flushed with record-high savings, are turning to equities for better returns as interest rates continue to drift lower. This shift in behavior has led to a surge in margin loans taken out to buy stocks, which climbed to the highest level since 2015 this week. The momentum is also seen in the monthly average turnover on onshore exchanges, which is on track for a third month of advances.
