Transport Canada alerts: Is your car or SUV one of the many vehicles recalled recently?
Several automakers have recalled vehicles in Canada recently.
Here's a roundup of vehicle recalls provided to Transport Canada between April 21 and 28.
Volvo has recalled
the 2021 to 2025 Polestar 2. Nearly 8,000 cars are affected.
A software problem could cause the rear-view camera image not to display on some vehicles when the transmission is shifted into reverse.
'A rear-view camera image that doesn't display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash,' the recall, last updated April 28, said.
Polestar will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to update the vehicle's software.
Mercedes-Benz issued a pair of recalls recently.
One of those recalls
is on the following 2023 and 2024 model year cars and SUVs:
A total of 124 vehicles are affected.
The recall repairs completed by a Mercedes-Benz dealer during recall 8297011 (Transport Canada recall No. 2024-105) may not have been done correctly on some vehicles and a second repair is required.
On some vehicles, the 80 A fuse may not have been manufactured properly and the fuse could overheat and fail. If this happens, there could be a sudden loss of power to the wheels and it could cause the instrument cluster not to work.
'A fuse and wiring that overheats can create the risk of a fire. A sudden loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. Warnings, telltales and gauges that don't display could also increase the risk of a crash,' the recall, last updated April 23, said.
The automaker will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to replace the main fuse box.
A separate Mercedes-Benz recall
is on the 2022 and 2023 C Class. Just three cars are affected.
The driver's seatbelt may not have been installed properly on these few vehicles and the seatbelt could become loose over time and detach.
'A seatbelt that detaches in a crash could increase the risk of injury,' the recall, last updated April 25, said.
The automaker will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, reinstall the safety cap on the driver's seatbelt.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles issued a recall
on the 2023 to 2025 Dodge Hornet and 2023 to 2025 Alfa Romeo Tonale. More than 7,000 SUVs are affected.
The rear-view camera may not have been manufactured properly on some vehicles and/or there could be a problem in the rear-view camera software. This could result in the rear-view camera not displaying.
'A rear-view camera image that doesn't display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash,' the recall, last updated April 25, said.
FCA Canada will notify owners in writing and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to update the rear-view camera software. For certain vehicles, the dealer will also replace the radio assembly.
Maserati has issued a recall
on the 2024 GranTurismo. Just one car is affected.
The compliance label and tire and loading information label located on the B-pillar may not be attached properly and could fall off, which would result in information about the vehicle, such as cargo carrying capacity and tire pressures, to be missing. This could lead you to overload the vehicle, which could cause poor handling or a tire failure.
'Poor handling or a tire failure could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash,' the recall, last updated April 25, said.
Maserati will notify the owner by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealer to install the labels.

Volvo Cars unveils multi-adaptive safety belt for EX60
Geely-owned Volvo Cars has introduced a "world-first" multi-adaptive safety belt technology, set to debut in the fully electric Volvo EX60 in 2026. This innovative feature is designed to offer unprecedented protection by adapting to both the traffic environment and the individual characteristics of passengers, utilising real-time data from the vehicle's sensors. The multi-adaptive safety belt represents a significant advancement in automotive safety. It adjusts its settings in response to various factors, including the severity of a crash and the specific profile of the person wearing it. By considering attributes such as height, weight, body shape, and seating position, the system customises the level of restraint provided, aiming to minimise injury risks in the event of a collision. For instance, in a severe crash, a larger occupant would experience a higher belt load setting, which is crucial in reducing the likelihood of head injuries. Conversely, a smaller person in a less intense crash would benefit from a lower belt load setting, decreasing the chance of rib fractures. Moreover, the system's capacity for continuous improvement through over-the-air software updates ensures that the safety belt will evolve and enhance its protective capabilities over time. Volvo Cars Safety Centre head Åsa Haglund said: 'The world first multi-adaptive safety belt is another milestone for automotive safety and a great example of how we leverage real-time data with the ambition to help save millions of more lives. This marks a major upgrade to the modern three-point safety belt, a Volvo invention introduced in 1959, estimated to have saved over a million lives.' In another development, Volvo Cars has reported a 12% decline in global sales for May, with 59,822 vehicles sold. This decrease represents a notable change in the company's sales performance when compared to the same month in the previous year.
