Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister of Pune district Ajit Pawar urged gram panchayats and sarpanches to take responsibility for improving schools in their villages.
Speaking at the inauguration of Pune Model School and a model primary health centre in Pune on Saturday, Pawar said, 'In the district, every gram panchayat and sarpanch should take responsibility for schools in their villages. They should overview the works required to be undertaken in schools and take up the issue in tha gram sabha.'
'…At the end of the day, this is not the responsibility of just the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, or the education department. It is the responsibility of all of us. We should pay attention to this as a social commitment. The involvement of both the public and the government is necessary to bring about a change in the education system,' said Pawar.
Explaining why public involvement was necessary in education, the NCP chief said, 'I ask many people who are doing good work who tell me that during the time of R R Patil, the state government, with the support of people, implemented the Sant Gadgebaba Gram Swachhta Abhiyan. The Union government took note of this and launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. There should be a movement raised by people. The same should happen in our education system
as well.'
The Deputy CM also urged teachers to take responsibility and bring about a change in the schools where they are teaching. 'Since we have some expectations from you teachers, you should take responsibility and bring about a positive change in the schools,' said Pawar even as he presented the Excellent Teacher Award. The ceremony was organized by the Pune Zilla Parishad at Ganesh Kala Krida Manch. An 'excellent new building' for the school education department in Pune would be inaugurated soon, announced Pawar.
At the event, Pune Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Gajanan Patil announced that out of 3,546 schools in 13 talukas of Pune district, the Zilla Parishad is trying to build 303 model schools and 108 model primary health centres. The Pune Nipun app and dashboard created by Pune Zilla Parishad were also launched at the event.
Deputy Chairperson of the Legislative Council Dr. Neelam Gorhe, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Anna Bansode, state school education and sports minister Dada Bhuse, MLAs Sunil Shelke, Bapusaheb Pathare, Dnyaneshwar Katke, Shankar Mande, Baba Kale, Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, District Collector Jitendra Dudi, and Additional Chief Executive Officer Chandrakant Waghmare were also present at the event.

Centre's neutral stance in Gaza not in line with traditional position: Sharad Pawar

NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Sunday raised concerns over developments in Gaza and questioned the Union government's neutral stance on aggression as he said that India's stance of neutrality was not in line with its traditional position. Stating that Israel is doing good work in the field of agriculture, Pawar said, 'But on the other hand, what is happening in Gaza, where innocent children and people have lost their lives, their homes have been destroyed, and while all this is happening, many countries in the world have remained silent.' Speaking about India's stance, he said, 'India–be it during Indira Gandhi's time, Nehru's time, or later–always took a different stand on this issue, one that protected humanity. That was India's image. But the continuous attacks and destruction of innocent lives–this picture that we see–and while this is happening, just yesterday in the United Nations a resolution related to this issue came up, and instead of taking a stand against aggression, India chose neutrality. This is not India's policy…Unfortunately, those who have the reins of the country today do not present a clear and clean policy on such matters before the world. And because of this, a large section of the world is developing—and will develop—a misunderstanding about India. This is the situation we are seeing today,' Pawar said. Pawar was addressing party workers during a training camp in Mumbai's Ghatkopar area and speaking on the recent Pahalgam attack in Kashmir he said that Centre should have taken a firm stand. 'Government's action should have been against those perpetrators who came with machine guns and killed innocent people, but that did not happen,' he said. Pawar also raised concerns over the credibility of the election process, stating that people have doubts about the system and even Rahul Gandhi has written about it. 'There is unrest in people's minds regarding the electoral machinery,' he said. In his 18-minute speech, Pawar also urged party workers to gear up for the upcoming political battles and said that local party units must decide whether to contest the upcoming civic body polls including the BMC independently or in alliance with others (MVA partners) and assured that the party will fully support their decision. In Maharashtra, NCP (SP) is part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance with Congress and Sena (UBT). 'In areas going to polls, local workers and leaders should sit together and decide what's best. If you choose to contest independently, the party is with you. If you feel there should be discussion with others, the party will support that too,' Pawar told party workers during a training camp that was held in Mumbai's Ghatkopar area. Referring to the upcoming BMC elections, Pawar said the party will contest under the leadership of Rakhi Jadhav, and her decisions will have full backing of the party leadership. 'Let me be clear, we have to face the elections in Mumbai. While doing so, it is for you all to decide whether we should form an alliance or contest independently. If you feel that, in the context of the elections, we want to give our workers recognition among the public and create new leadership, and if your collective opinion is to fight independently, then the party will take that into serious consideration. If you believe we should sit with like-minded parties and arrive at a seat-sharing arrangement, we will be open to that too. Therefore, you all must sit together and decide soon—what should our strategy be moving forward? Give us your suggestions, and based on that, the party leadership will ensure that you all get an opportunity to participate meaningfully in this election. I assure you of that,' Pawar said while addressing party workers. He further said that he believes that in many places, the younger generation should be given a chance to contest elections. 'This will help build new leadership, the public will recognize these emerging leaders, and it will ultimately benefit the party's growth. We must keep that in mind. I am confident that the country will closely watch the Mumbai elections. Mumbai is a city that shows the direction to the nation. It is a melting pot of all states, all languages, all religions. Naturally, the political landscape of the country is often reflected in Mumbai,' he added. Reflecting on recent electoral results, Pawar said the party contested 10 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra and performed well, though it fell short of winning two constituencies. 'In Parliament, our MPs are articulating Maharashtra's issues effectively,' he said. He, however, added that the Vidhan Sabha results were disturbing, and the party must prepare more strongly for future challenges.

Slain Beed sarpanch's daughter praised for success in NEET

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Vaibhavi Deshmukh, daughter of the late Massajog sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh from Beed district, is receiving widespread commendation for scoring 147 marks in NEET — a remarkable achievement given the challenges she faced. Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar lauded Vaibhavi's success, calling it more than just an academic accomplishment. He emphasized that her story serves as a powerful lesson on facing adversity and achieving one's goals. "Your success will inspire the new generation. Vaibhavi, your achievement can't be measured in terms of marks alone. Even in the most adverse circumstances, you didn't get discouraged or distracted. By overcoming sorrow with patience and hard work, you pursued your dream and saw it through," Pawar said in a post on X. The deputy CM praised Vaibhavi's admirable determination, perseverance, and maturity, offering his best wishes for her future educational endeavours. Vaibhavi shared with the media that she received congratulatory calls from various prominent figures, including deputy CM Eknath Shinde and NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Switch to UnionBank Rewards Card UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo "I am getting calls from many, but I miss my father, who is not with me right now, to pat me on my back. The entire state, our community, stood behind me, and I expected such support to fulfil my father's dream for me," Vaibhavi said. She added that the blessings of her father would remain with her forever, even if he is not physically present with her. The Massajog sarpanch was allegedly abducted, brutally tortured, and eventually murdered on Dec 9 last year for resisting a multi-crore extortion bid on a private energy company. Meanwhile, the Deshmukh family and Masaajog villagers have postponed their sit-in agitation they planned from Monday.
