Pakistan's Mohammad Asif wins World Masters snooker championship
In the World Masters final, snooker player Mohammad Asif defeated India's Brijesh Damani by 4-3, Radio Pakistan reported.
In the final of U-17 World Snooker Championship, cueist Muhammad Hasnain defeated Riley Powell of Wales by 4-0.
President Asif Ali Zardari congratulated Asif on winning the world snooker championship and defeating Indian player Damani in the final to win the title.
'Muhammad Asif made the nation proud with his outstanding performance,' said the president.
President Zardari said the success in the world competition is a testament to the ability, determination and hard work of Pakistani players.
Praising Asif's dedication, courage and professionalism, he said: 'Muhammad Asif proved that Pakistani players are no less than anyone at the global level.'

The 2025 IBSF Masters Champion Muhammad Asif also outclassed Ireland's Jay Chopra 4-0 (66(66)-0, 75(75)-0, 54(33)-8, 48(32)-12) in his 6 Red match. In other matches of the day, Ahsan also defeated Bahrain's Abdullah Mohammed 4-0 (39-14, 41(41)-0, 42-31, 38-4), whereas, Hasnain faced a lose against Hong Kong's Chau Hon Man 4-2 (41-9, 38-16, 0-69(69), 39-33, 0-67(67), 30-29). The teenager has been impressive in his play and has won the IBSF U17 championship title in a stellar manner; throughout the entire tournament, he dropped only one frame. Earlier, Ahsan also registered a victory in the U21 Championship against Mahmood Ahmed of Bahrain 3-0 (59-2, 82(31)-6, 74(57)-6). Pakistan Billiard and Snooker Association (PBSA) are fielding four players in the championships in Manama. The squad includes Asif, Shahid Aftab, Hasnain, and Ahsan. They are accompanied by the team manager and international referee Naveed Kapadia. Kapadia described the Pakistani campaign at the championships to be phenomenal so far; they have managed to create history by bagging the U17 title and the Masters titles. Hasnain's achievement was the first for Pakistan, and Asif ended the 19-year drought to win the Masters title, which was last won by Muhammad Yousuf. Kapadia also explained that the conditions and the environment in Manama are great for the players, and particularly, they are enjoying the world-class facilities, including the tables from the best brand in the world. "We are very happy with the arrangements as the championship is taking place at a 5-star hotel. In previous years, we would always get the accommodations in the best hotels, but the competition would take place in an academy. This time we have a more relaxed and conducive environment to play well. The tables provided to us are also of top quality," he concluded.

The announcement was made through a statement shared on the official social media handle of the WCL, confirming the cancellation of the marquee fixture. "We at WCL have always cherished and loved cricket, and our only aim has been to give fans some good, happy moments," the statement read. "After hearing the news that the Pakistan hockey team will be coming to India this year, and seeing recent India vs Pakistan volleyball and other inter-nation fixtures, we thought of continuing with the India vs Pakistan match at WCL — just to create some happy memories for people around the globe." "However, we have decided to call off the India vs Pakistan match," the statement added. "We sincerely apologise for hurting sentiments and hope people will understand that all we ever wanted was to bring a few happy moments to the fans." Before the official announcement, reports emerged that five India cricketers have set a condition ahead of their clash against Pakistan, stating they will not participate if former all-rounder Shahid Afridi is included in the squad or even enters the stadium premises. Deep likely to miss 4th Eng Test
India's pace attack has suffered another setback ahead of the fourth Test against England, scheduled to begin on July 23 at Old Trafford, as fast bowler Akash Deep is likely to be ruled out due to a back injury, Indian media reported on Sunday. According to a report, the development came after Arshdeep Singh was also sidelined earlier this week due to a hand injury sustained during practice. As a result, the Indian team management has called up pacer Anshul Kamboj as injury cover for both Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh. Akash played a key role in India's only win of the series at Edgbaston, reportedly suffered a groin strain during the Lord's Test. He left the field midway through the second innings and although he returned later, he did not bowl again that day. He also skipped a net session ahead of the team's travel to Manchester, raising concerns about his fitness. According to Indian media, Akash is dealing with a recurring back issue, making his participation in the fourth Test highly doubtful.
