Guwahati: With Dhubri district in Assam witnessing law and order issue post Bakrid celebration, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that police is asked to shoot at sight the criminal elements. The town has repeatedly witnessed recovery of beef near a temple.Sarma on Friday said this while interacting with a communal force active in Dhubri to disrupt peace.He said that the government has issued shoot at sight orders in Dhubri. The chief minister further added that Rapid Action Force and CRPF will be rushed to Dhubri to contain the situation."The law-and-order situation was a little challenging here for the last one week. After the Eid ul Zuha , somebody kept a severed head of a cow in Hanuman temple. Peace committees are formed involving Hindus and Muslims. However, it was repeated the next day again," he said while adding that there were also cases of stone pelting at night, he said.Sarma said, ' From next time onwards I will come to Dhubri before Eid and camp for at least 10 days. Police will shoot at the sight of criminal elements."The chief minister further added that a Bangladesh backed organization Nobin Bangla has also done postering in Dhubri demanding inclusion of Dhubri district in Bangladesh.He said that these postering indicates that a communal force backed by Bangladesh is active in Dhubri and they are working to destabilize Dhubri.On June 9, the Dhubri district administration-imposed prohibition under BNSS 2023 in Dhubri town following the likelihood of breach of peace and public tranquillity in areas falling under Dhubri police station due to communal tension.The area witnessed tension following recovery of banned meat including a severed cow head from the premises of a Hanuman temple in the town's Ward no 3.This triggered widespread protest in the town and the locals demanded immediate action against the culprits. Although the police and senior district administration officials reached the spot immediately, they faced resistance from the locals, forcing them to impose restrictions.Although the restrictions under BNSS were lifted the next day, shimmering tension still continued in the district.

He said Pakistan has since used "nuclear blackmail" to block international intervention. "At a time when nations today act decisively to neutralise nuclear threats, India's tragic inaction during the 1980s remains a cautionary tale of what could have been—and what wasn't," the Assam CM said in a long post on X. Sarma said intelligence from R&AW had confirmed Pakistan's uranium enrichment at Kahuta. In his post titled "Congress's Historic Blunder: How India Let Pakistan Become a Nuclear State", he claimed Israel offered help—from intel to joint strike planning. He said Jamnagar Air Base was shortlisted as a launch site and the Indian military supported a pre-emptive strike on Kahuta. "India had the capability and consensus to eliminate the threat before it became a reality. Yet at the last minute: Indira Gandhi hesitated, fearing international fallout," the chief minister alleged. He added that Rajiv Gandhi later "shelved the plan, prioritising diplomacy over deterrence under foreign pressure". According to Sarma, in 1988 Rajiv Gandhi signed a no-strike nuclear pact with Pakistan's Benazir Bhutto, pledging not to attack each other's nuclear sites. He noted, "A decade later, Pakistan tested nuclear weapons in 1998. India was pulled into a costly nuclear arms race. Kargil, proxy terror wars, and cross-border strikes have since occurred under Pakistan's nuclear shield." "To this day, Pakistan uses nuclear blackmail to deter international action and legitimize its rogue behaviour," he said. Sarma also accused the CPI(M), an INDIA bloc ally, of promising in their 2024 manifesto to roll back India's nuclear deterrent if elected. 'Where strong leadership demands resolve and foresight, Congress offered caution and delay. A historic window to safeguard India's long-term security was squandered—for short-term diplomatic comfort,' he said.

Two elderly found dead in wells in separate incident in Karnataka; cases registered
MANGALURU: In two separate incidents, senior citizens were found dead in wells in Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district. The deceased have been identified as Gowramma, 84, from Sullia, and Srinivasa Acharya, 70, from Kokkada. Suryanarayana S of Varanashi House, Kalanja village in Sullia taluk, reported that his mother, Gowramma, had been suffering from chronic knee pain for over a decade. Although she was receiving treatment, her condition did not improve, and she became increasingly upset. On 13 June, around 11.15 am, Suryanarayana and his wife left for the Koti temple, leaving Gowramma alone at home. When Anupama returned around 3.00 pm, she found Gowramma missing and began searching the premises. She found the elderly woman's body floating in a well beside the house. The complainant was informed and rushed home to find his mother dead. An unnatural death report has been registered at Bellare Police Station under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. When he did not return by nightfall, the family began searching for him. Near an uncovered well, they found his spectacles and footwear. Although they initially found nothing in the well, a second inspection the next morning revealed his body floating in the water. NIA charges 17, including 16 absconders, in 2024 Chhattisgarh CRPF attack case
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) chargesheeted 17 accused, including 16 absconders, in the 2024 case of attacks on CRPF camps by CPI (M) terror operatives armed with automatic weapons and BGLs in Chhattisgarh, according to an official statement. One of the accused is under arrest and is identified as Sodi Baman, aka Deval. The absconders include two Central Committee Members (CCM), two Special Zonal/ State Committee Members (SZC/SCM) and other top cadres of PLGA BN No. 01, Telangana State Committee and Pamed Area Committee. The chargesheet filed on Friday before the NIA Special Court at Jagdalpur has charged all of them under various sections of the IPC, Arms Act, Explosive Substances Act, and UA(P) Act, the statement added. The case RC-01/2024/NIA/RPR relates to the attack on CRPF's new camp at Dharmavaram and two adjacent CRPF/CoBRA camps at Chintawagu and Pamed in District Bijapur, on January 16, 2024. The attackers had attempted to loot weapons and other belongings of the security forces from the camps. Twelve CRPF personnel at the Dharmavaram CRPF camp, which was set up on 17th December 2023, were injured in the attack. NIA had taken over the case from the local police on February 9 2024, and registered it against 21 named and 250-300 unknown armed cadres of the proscribed terrorist organisation CPI(Maoist). Investigations revealed that the charge sheeted accused had been involved in the recruitment of youth, as part of a criminal conspiracy to wage war against the democratically elected Government of India. They owned prohibited arms, ammunition and explosive materials, and had organised and attended conspiracy meetings, the statement said. They had also established a training dummy camp as a replica of the target camp, imparted training and given motivational speeches to their armed cadres to carry out an armed rebellion, besides conducting a recce of the said camps and executing the final attacks. Earlier on June 12, the NIA searched 15 locations linked with the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror organisation in Punjab and Haryana in Amritsar police post grenade attack case. The places searched include Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Pathankot, Kapurthala and Rupnagar districts of Punjab and Sirsa in Haryana in connection with the January 2025 grenade attack at a police post in Amritsar district of Punjab, said the NIA in a statement. NIA said a host of incriminating materials, including mobiles and digital devices and documents, were seized during the searches, and are being examined for further clues to the terror syndicate of BKI.
