Sudbury swimmer in critical condition after allegedly being struck by a boat

(Angela Gemmill/CTV News Northern Ontario) A 52-year-old woman is in critical condition after allegedly being struck by a boat while swimming in Lake Nepahwin on Friday morning. The Greater Sudbury Police Service, along with paramedics and fire crews, responded to the incident just before 11 a.m. 'According to witnesses, a 52-year-old woman was swimming in open water when it appeared that she was struck by a passing vessel,' police said in a news release. The victim sustained significant injuries and received immediate aid from bystanders before being transported to Health Sciences North. She remains in the ICU in critical condition. Ongoing police investigation Sudbury police's traffic and forensic units are leading the investigation. Officers are using aerial imaging via a remotely piloted aircraft system, commonly referred to as a drone, and conducting interviews to gather evidence. 'We extend our thoughts to the individual and her family during this difficult time,' police said. A visible police presence remained for several hours near Stewart Drive and Nepahwin Beach as the investigation continued. CTV News confirmed police had cleared the area as of 5 p.m. Authorities are urging anyone with information or video footage of the incident to contact police at 705-675-9171. Hiker dead after falling into waterfall in Squamish Valley, B.C.
Squamish Search and Rescue were called in after a hiker fell into the Crooked Falls waterfall July 31. The body of a hiker who died after falling into a waterfall in the upper Squamish Valley region of B.C. has been recovered. According to a brief statement from the Sea-to-Sky RCMP, rescue teams responded to a report of a hiker who had fallen into Crooked Falls Thursday evening and arrived to find the person deceased at the scene. Squamish Search and Rescue was unable to recover the hiker's body that evening due to 'challenging terrain and fading daylight,' and the rescue operation was postponed until Friday morning, Mounties said. The coroner's service is working to determine the cause of the death, but no criminality is suspected, police said. 'We extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time,' said Const. Kelly Wu. 'We would like to thank Squamish SAR for their dedication and efforts at this tragic event.'
