Harsha Bhogle breaks silence on CAB's ban demand row in IPL 2025; commentator addresses ‘inappropriate conclusions'
Renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle has broken his silence on the Cricket Association of Bengal's (CAB) requesting the BCCI to ban him and Simon Doull in Kolkata for the remainder of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), calling it 'inappropriate'.
A report on RevSportz on Monday stated that the CAB has qritten to the BCCI to not assign both Bhogle and Doull - commentators in IPL 2025 - at the Eden Gardens for the rest of the IPL 2025 matches after the duo spoke publicly against curator Sujan Mukherjee.
Taking to X, Bhogle denied all reports and explained why he wasn't present at the Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) match against Gujarat Titans. 'There are some inappropriate conclusions being drawn about why I wasn't at yesterday's game in Kolkata,' Bhogle explained.
'Quite simply, it wasn't on the list of matches I was down to do! Asking me would have resolved the issue. Rosters are done before the tournament starts. I was rostered for two games in Kolkata. I was there for the first and an illness in the family prevented me from being at the 2nd,' added the Indian commentator.
The whole controversy stemmed after the KKR management was reportedly unhappy with the pitch of the IPL 2025 opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on March 22. Both KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane and coach Chandrakant Pandit had demanded a spin-friendly pitch to assist their spinners.
In reply, Mukherjee stated that he will go by the BCCI guidelines. Reacting to Mukherjee's comments, Bhogle had commented that KKR deserve home advantage while Doull suggested that the three-time champions should look for a new home if the curator fails to fulfil the franchise's needs in IPL 2025.

RCB moves Karnataka HC to quash criminal case over Bengaluru stampede

Meanwhile, last week, the High Court had granted interim protection to the named KSCA officials, Raghuram Bhat (President), A Shankar (Secretary), and E.S. Jairam (Treasurer), from coercive action by the police until the next hearing. The KSCA management had swiftly moved the high court on Friday after chief minister Siddaramaiah ordered the arrest of its office bearers along with the senior executives of RCB Bengaluru and DNA Entertainment Networks. Live Events In its petition, KSCA said it is only a governing body of cricket in Karnataka with affiliation to the board of control for cricket in India. It runs the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru where international tests, one day and T20 cricket matches are conducted. The KSCA has nothing to do with IPL events and Wednesday's celebrations were organized by RCB franchise and managed by its vendor DNA Entertainment Network. KSCA's role was limited to making the stadium and its infrastructure available to RCB and DNA. RCB's marketing head, Nikhil Sosale, who was among those arrested in connection with the incident, has also moved the court separately to challenge his detention. In the wake of the incident, the state government handed over the investigation to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which has formed a 15-member Special Investigation Team to probe the circumstances and planning failures that led to the stampede. The government also suspended five police officers, including the city's police commissioner. A one-member judicial commission led by retired Karnataka High Court judge Justice John Michael D'Cunha has also been appointed to investigate the matter. The commission has been asked to submit its findings within 30 days.

BENGALURU: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has approached the Karnataka high court seeking to quash a criminal case filed against the team in connection with the stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4 that left 11 people dead. The stampede occurred on the evening of June 4, as large crowds gathered to celebrate RCB's maiden IPL win, resulting in 11 fatalities and several injuries. Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah had expressed deep grief over the incident. Speaking to reporters on Sunday, he clarified, 'This incident shouldn't have happened; it happened at the cricket stadium. I don't have any connection with the cricket stadium.' The CM said that five police officers have been suspended in connection with the incident. 'The intelligence chief and my political secretary have also been replaced. The case is being taken seriously and appropriate action has been taken. The government is not at fault, but the incident has caused great sorrow,' Siddaramaiah added. On June 4, before the stampede, the RCB team was felicitated by the Karnataka government at the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru. Following the tragedy, the Karnataka government suspended senior police officials at Cubbon Park Police Station and set up a one-man commission led by a retired high court judge to investigate the incident. BCCI revises India's 2025 home cricket schedule
Mumbai, June 9 (UNI) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday released the revised itinerary for the Indian international home season and the South Africa A tour of India in 2025, with key venue changes affecting both men's and women's fixtures. According to the updated schedule, India's senior men's team will take on West Indies and South Africa in a series of Tests, ODIs, and T20Is at home. The much-anticipated IDFC First Bank Test series against the West Indies will begin on October 2, 2025, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, while the second Test, initially planned for Kolkata, has now been shifted to Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi. Similarly, the first Test against South Africa, scheduled for November 14, will now take place at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, instead of New Delhi. The second Test will be played in Guwahati, followed by ODIs in Ranchi, Raipur, and Visakhapatnam, and T20Is across Cuttack, New Chandigarh, Dharamsala, Lucknow, and Hyderabad.
