Experts' tips to not get ‘stranded' at Newark Airport: ‘Avoid any connections through EWR'
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a ground delay for EWR due to staffing shortages, weather and construction issues as a recent report found that air traffic controllers briefly lost radar and radio signals last week.

Brandon Blewett, the Texas-based author of 'How to Avoid Strangers on Airplanes,' told Fox News Digital he has found EWR to be less reliable in recent days, but would still use the airport.
'If it was New Jersey, I'd likely still fly into Newark but choose the earliest flights, which typically face fewer delays,' said Blewett.
'I'd avoid any connections through EWR right now … for better reliability,' he said.
For travelers to and from New York City, Blewett suggested looking at other airports.

'I'd consider alternatives to EWR like LGA and JFK until the runway reopens and ATC staffing stabilizes,' said Blewett. 'It may be more of a headache in traffic, but it seems you're less likely to be stranded for the time being.'

Gary Leff, a Texas-based travel industry expert and author of the blog 'View From the Wing,' told Fox News Digital that passengers should avoid New York airports for connecting flights.
'If you're connecting, it's often a good idea to avoid New York airports. If you originate in New York, it really depends on where in the city you're based,' he said.

'While Newark is facing significant problems right now, I'm not sure I'd bounce over to JFK if I lived on Staten Island,' he added. 'Weigh the evils.'
Some passengers have taken to social media to discuss the disruptions at EWR. One Reddit post entitled, 'Newark airport unsafe???' in the 'r/newjersey' forum garnered over 1,000 reactions and hundreds of comments.
The user asked, 'Should I do the unthinkable and switch my EWR flight this weekend to JFK? how nervous should we be about this?'

Another user shared, 'Just flew into EWR … Flight delayed 1 hr, checked in bags on a different flight (2.5 hrs later) because of plane weight issues, and had to be pulled by a tug because the plane overshot the jet bridge by 1.5 ft.'
Said another person, 'I flew into Newark yesterday and the delays were annoying.'
A Redditor commented, 'I flew out of EWR last week and back yesterday. All the delays we had both times were infuriating. Never had that experience before. And the times just kept changing. I almost changed my flight yesterday to LaGuardia or Trenton.'
'The issue is [that] air traffic controllers are in demand and they're very understaffed,' said one user. 'EWR obviously has a lot of traffic, so I kind of get it.'

'Bus travel a vital alternative'
A spokesperson for Flix North America, the parent company of FlixBus and Greyhound, told Fox News Digital the company has seen an increase in riders.

'We can confirm Flix North America has seen a 35% increase in originating passengers at our Newark location across both Greyhound and FlixBus within a span of just three days,' said the spokesperson.
'Ticket sales at this location are also up more than 80% year over year.'
The spokesperson added, 'We are closely monitoring the situation and are well-prepared to welcome passengers impacted by flight cancellations and delays.'
The spokesperson also said, 'In times like these, bus travel serves as a vital alternative, offering travelers an affordable, accessible and dependable way to reach their destinations.'

Las Vegas tourism officials blame tariffs for fewer visitors as others say magic's gone
Officials are speaking out after recent reports putting tourism declines in Sin City in the spotlight. On Tuesday, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) held its board of directors meeting, addressing various factors that have been impacting tourism. Steve Hill, LVCVA president, reportedly spoke about the effect that tariffs are having on both returning and potential new visitors. "Some of the decisions our administration has made around international relations [have] caused a drop in tourism," said Hill, according to local outlet KTNV Las Vegas. Hill added, "Our international visitation is flat but is making up for a 20+% drop in tourism from Canada, which is our largest international source of visitation." Fox News Digital reached out to LVCVA for comment. Circa Resort & Casino CEO Derek Stevens recently told Fox News Digital that international tourism is down across an array of locations. "I think everyone is in a position where you can say we're missing some of our Canadian friends who aren't visiting this year," said Stevens. Nevada is among the top five most visited states by Canadians, according to the U.S. Travel Association. The association warned that the United States could see a 10% reduction in Canadian travel, which is about 2 million fewer visits, according to recent reports. The LVCVA board recently approved a $20 million sponsorship agreement for the Formula One Las Vegas Grand Prix. The agreement will extend the race through 2027 – an event that could boost tourism numbers. The board also discussed developments at the Harry Reid Airport — which has also seen a decline, dropping 4.1% year to date compared to the same time last year, according to the website. Stevens said he believes the lack of international visitors right now may be due to the overall global economy and exchange rates. Amid some uncertainty, he said the industry has acknowledged the economy has slowed a bit. "I think in six months, I would believe that Vegas tourism and our economy overall will be in a much better place," predicted Stevens. He noted the finalization of trade agreements will provide stability and "set the table going forward." Robby Starbuck, conservative activist and host of "The Robby Starbuck Show," previously told Fox News Digital it is not just prices that are keeping people out of Vegas these days. "Now nearly everyone under 40 who bets seems to do it online," Starbuck said. "Another differentiator is that older generations focused on real-life interaction — while younger generations feel just as content with parasocial online experiences," he said. "The Vegas marketing image is one centered on slots and showgirls, two things young people have no interest in," said Starbuck.

What to know about the uncertain future of Spirit Airlines: 3 things that could impact travelers
Just five months after emerging from bankruptcy, Spirit Airlines is now warning investors the company may not survive without more cash. Uncertain future of Spirit Airlines Despite its financial restructuring efforts, the ultra-low budget carrier, which filed for Chapter 11 last November, is facing a turbulent future according to the aviation company's quarterly filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, a U.S. government oversight and regulatory agency. The Florida-based budget airline has "substantial doubt" about its ability to continue or sustain operations as it has struggled to regain profitability, its parent company, Spirit Aviation Holdings, stated in the filing. "The Company has continued to be affected by adverse market conditions, including elevated domestic capacity and continued weak demand for domestic leisure travel in the second quarter of 2025, resulting in a challenging pricing environment," the filing stated. "As a result, the Company continues to experience challenges and uncertainties in its business operations and expects these trends to continue for at least the remainder of 2025." Spirit was the first major U.S. airline in 13 years to declare bankruptcy since American Airlines. Weaker demand for low-budget leisure travel has made it difficult for the no-frills carrier to price its fares appropriately, while still filling enough seats to make back profit. Per the filing, Spirit needs more cash or the airline could be at risk of potential default to creditors. The airline said it is considering options including selling off aircrafts, real estate or some airport gate spots. What it means for travelers Following the influx of attention and a stock plunge by 40% on Tuesday, Spirit's CEO and president Dave Davis addressed employees in a written memo, saying the company was "hard at work on many initiatives to protect our unique franchise, our valued Team Members, our business partners and our Guests who place their trust in us every day." In the memo, he explained that using "substantial doubt" about the company's future is "a phrase required by our outside auditors to convey that there is risk if we do not make changes. But, we are." Davis also said the airline is "confident" the company can "build a Spirit that will continue to provide customers the unmatched value that they have come to expect for many years to come." Any travelers with tickets booked on Spirit will not be impacted as there is no suggestion of an imminent shutdown.
