MP's 'dismay' as Alan Carr show says Gosport development is in Portsmouth

Yahoo05-05-2025

An MP has written to the BBC after an episode of a hit show referred to a development located in Gosport as being in Portsmouth.
MP Dame Caroline Dinenage has written to Sarah Nelson, BBC News editorial advisor, requesting Gosport "is given its due credit on national television".
The Conservative's letter comes after an episode of BBC One show Interior Design Masters, hosted by comedian Alan Carr, referred to the Royal Haslar development as being in Portsmouth.
In the opening line of the show, Carr said: "This week we're in Portsmouth where our designers are transforming retirement apartments."

The BBC iPlayer description of episode three of the show also read: "The eight designers go high-end, pairing up to transform luxury retirement show apartments in an old converted military hospital in Portsmouth."
In her letter, Ms Dinenage said: "Though I was very glad to see this beautiful building featured so prominently on the programme, many of us who live in Gosport found ourselves shouting at the screen in dismay throughout the programme as we were repeatedly told that Haslar was in Portsmouth.
"As I often say, Portsmouth is a city near Gosport, not the other way around."
Ms Dinenage, who received her damehood in October 2022 from the Princess Royal for her work on the Online Safety Bill, said it was not the first time Gosport was wrongly referred to as Portsmouth on the BBC, and asked for Gosport to be correctly identified in future.

Celebrity Race Across the World 2025 line-up rumours so far from Strictly couple to Roman Kemp

Don't be too disappointed that Race Across the World is coming to an end next week as Celebrity Race Across the World is coming back later this year. Rumours have been swirling about who the four teams taking on the BBC show challenge are. So far the rumoured teams are: Strictly couple Molly Rainford and Tyler West as well as siblings Roman Kemp and his sister Harley, plus Dylan Llewellyn. It's not yet known who the other two pairings could be. There are always four pairs on the celebrity edition as there is no elimination round. Last year's competitors included: winners Scott Mills and his husband Sam, Kelly Brook and her husband Jeremy Parisi, Jeff Brazier and his son Freddy as well as Kola Bokinni and his cousin Mary-Ellen. GMB weatherman Alex Beresford and his dad Noel won the first version of the celebrity show that aired in 2023. They were competing against siblings Billy Monger and his sister Bonny, Mel Blatt and her mum, as well as Harry Judd and his mum. Derry Girls star Dylan Llewellyn is being tipped for Celebrity Race Across the World, according to The Sun. The Beyond Paradise star, who plays sweet Kelby on the BBC show, would be swapping acting and learning lines for an adventure. It would take him to different corners of the world. Although his name has been leaked, it is not known who could be his possible partner for the trip of a lifetime. We can't wait to find out more! Couple Molly Rainford and Tyler West are believed to be starring in the Celebrity Race Across the World 2025 line-up. They first fell in love when they first set eyes on each other on the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom. They were competing celebrities on the 2022 series. Their relationship will be tested to the limits on Race Across the World where they will have to budget and plan the best route together. They have already taken their relationship to the next level as they moved in with each other last year. Last year, Rainford told MailOnline of their relationship: "We are good and going strong and are actually moving in together. We're just going through, you know dining tables and sofas and all that kind of stuff, it's exciting." West added: "Yeah, adult life is real! Molly's turned into a whole interior designer. So I'm just taking a complete back seat. She's just like, "What do you think about this?" You've got Pintrest boards going so it's great." Roman Kemp and his older sister Harleymoon are also believed to be lined up for Celebrity Race Across the World. The siblings grew up in the limelight together, with famous parents Spandau Ballet's Martin Kemp and Wham! band member, Shirlie Holliman. As teenagers they would often be on the glamorous red carpets for the stars with their mum and dad. They both followed their parents footsteps into the spotlight. Harleymoon became a singer releasing her first song Space in 2020 while Kemp made waves on the radio. Despite appearances, Kemp detailed his struggles of feeling like he didn't fit in with his family. "I really upset my mum recently, because I said that sometimes I feel like I don't fit in with our family," he told The Guardian in January 2025. "I go back home and my dad will be on the piano, my sister will be singing, my mum's taking videos and pictures. And I just want to be on my own. I'm not… embarrassed by it, but that form of extroversion is not really me." In April last year, Kemp quit his Capital breakfast radio show after eight year but he has continued with building his profile in the showbiz world. Who else could be starring on Celebrity Race Across the World? Only time will tell. Yahoo UK has reached out to Celebrity Race Across the World representatives for further comment. Royal Family Reportedly Had ‘Brief' Heads-Up About Prince Harry's Bombshell Interview

The royal family was given a 'very brief' heads-up before Prince Harry's bombshell BBC News interview earlier this month. 'There was a very brief awareness-raising at the palace shortly before it [was] broadcast,' Hello! Magazine's royal editor Emily Nash claimed on the 'A Right Royal Podcast' on Friday, May 9. 'What I understand is that there were, potentially, discussions that might have happened as a result of the case now having been concluded.' Nash claimed that King Charles III 'didn't feel he could have these conversations' regarding the security trial with Harry, 40, because it would 'put him in a really difficult, and potentially unconstitutional, situation.' Harry made headlines earlier this month when he publicly asked for reconciliation with his family after losing his appeal for government-funded security in the U.K. The duke has been fighting to restore his security presence since leaving the royal family in 2020 alongside wife Meghan Markle. Before his public plea, Harry alluded to his father's involvement in the ongoing legal battle. 'He couldn't be seen to intervene on his son's behalf or get involved in government matters,' Nash added. 'His son is suing His Majesty's government, you know he needed to stay right out of this situation.' Why King Charles May Never Reconcile With Prince Harry Amid Painful Feud: 'So Complicated,' Source Says Nash previously believed there was 'potentially' an olive branch that could have been extended — but that all changed once Harry did the interview. Not only did Harry claim that Charles, 76, 'won't speak to me' in his BBC interview, which aired May 2, but he also commented on his father's mortality. (Charles was diagnosed with cancer in February 2024.) 'I would love reconciliation with my family. There's no point in continuing to fight anymore,' Harry said. 'Life is precious. I don't know how much longer my father has.' Royal expert Christopher Andersen told Us Weekly exclusively that Harry's comment about Charles' health likely didn't land with the royal family, noting that the Duke of Sussex 'has an odd way' of showing that he wants a reconciliation. 'He slams his father for interfering in the trial, then says the Palace rigged the outcome, then accuses the Royal Family of not caring about the safety of his wife and children, and winds up declaring that for now he can't foresee any scenario in which he would take his family to the U.K.,' Andersen, who has written several books about the royal family, continued. 'Harry delivered the coup de grace when he said he wanted to bury the hatchet with his father because he doesn't know how much time the King has left to live.'

TV Nature filmmaker to recount encounters with wild animals at Colchester show

A POPULAR Scottish wildlife filmmaker is set to headline a Colchester venue next year. Gordon Buchanan will bring his Lions and Tigers and Bears tour to Charter Hall, in Cowdray Avenue, on February 19, 2026, as part of a 30 date UK tour. The filmmaker and photographer will recount tales from his encounters with pandas, polar bears, grizzly bears, lions, jaguars, and the many adventures he has had over the years. A spokesman for the explorer said: 'Hailed as Scotland's own David Attenborough, Gordon Buchanan has dedicated his life to exploring the untamed beauty of the natural world, from forests to snowy landscapes and from towering mountains to the depths of the great rainforests. 'All his travels were with a single mission in mind: To capture the majestic bears and big cats on film and reveal their secrets to a global audience.' He began his career n filmmaking in 1989 and travelled to Sierra Leone to document animals in the Gola Rainforest, he has worked on the Big Cat Diary series and the BBC series Lost Land Of The… Last year, he performed the tour to 25 venues, and he is looking forward to getting back on the road. Speaking about the new tour, Gordon said: 'I had a wonderful time touring Lions and Tigers and Bears earlier this year – and I had to say 'Yes' when the chance came up to go back out on the road to a load of new venues. 'We joked that it sounded like a line from The Wizard of Oz – but the show is all about these amazing creatures, the undisputed icons of the animal kingdom, who I have been incredibly privileged to spend a lifetime observing. 'From pandas in China to orphaned grizzlies in Russia, from high-altitude tigers in the Himalayas to jaguars in the depths of the Amazon, I have been fortunate enough to meet many of these incredible creatures in their natural habitats – and I love being able to share their secrets with audiences. 'I cannot wait to get back out there, to meet more animal lovers and to tell more tales of amazing adventures.' Doors for the event will open at 6.30pm, and the show will start at 7.30pm.
