Downward Daithi - Rose of Tralee hosts leave viewers in stitches with yoga demonstration
Dáithí Ó Sé and Kathryn Thomas returned to host the annual pageant, with Laois Rose Katelyn Cummins taking home the title thanks to her expertise as an apprentice electrician and her jive.
Despite Katelyn's win, one of the highlights of the show came on night one — when Carlow Rose Katie Ryan showing off her yoga instructor skills, naturally using Kathryn and Dáithí as volunteers. View this post on Instagram

Alongside her two dogs that she uses for help with dog yoga, Katie got Kathryn and Dáithí to partake in breathing exercises, and even got them into the downward dog position.
Kathryn was a natural at the pose, but Dáithí could use a little more work — with Katie saying 'Kathryn, gorgeous. Dáithí, can we straighten those legs? What do you think?'
It wasn't exactly a walk in the park for Kathryn either, however — who ended up apologising to the folks on the side of the stage when she did the three-legged dog, as she joked they may have seen more of her than they would've bargained. Looking to stand back up, Dáithí joked 'I'm stuck,' but the pair managed to get themselves sorted with Katie's encouragement.
Naturally audiences at home thought the demonstration was brilliant.
'The two dogs were fantastic and the same can be said for the two labradors,' one joked, while another joked 'gone to the dogs.' Carlow Rose Katie Ryan leads a yoga demonstration on stage with Kathryn Thomas and Dáithí Ó Sé. Pic: Domnick Walsh
While the demonstration was a fan favourite, Laois' rose Katelyn Cummins was the one to take home the crown — and while she has a very busy year ahead of her, she said that she's eager to get back to finish her apprenticeship.
'I think I'll go back to work,' Katelyn told Morning Ireland on Wednesday. 'I'm raring to go back, to be honest, I'm really excited to get back.'
When asked about juggling her newfound responsibilities as Rose of Tralee and doing her apprenticeship and degree, nothing seemed impossible in her eyes — but she knows where her priorities lie.
'I suppose I'll be going with my apprenticeship the way I've been going for the past two years, and just kind of continue my duties as the Rose of Tralee on the side as well, but definitely my career will be a priority for me.'

Gardaí investigating social media scammer after hundreds conned by bogus Electric Picnic tickets
GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING a woman with a large following on social media who allegedly scammed dozens – and potentially hundreds – of people after she claimed to have Electric Picnic tickets for sale. The woman never transferred the tickets after people allegedly paid her the money for them. It is understood that the woman made a six-figure sum from the scam and it is understood that she has so far repaid roughly half of it after questioning by gardaí. Victims online said they trusted the woman as she has a large following on social media, and some of them knew her personally. It is alleged that the woman posted on her Instagram story last month that she was selling two tickets for Electric Picnic. She has more than 6,000 followers on Instagram. The hugely popular sold-out music festival is to take place in Stradbally, Co Laois on the weekend of 29 August. Many people have found themselves without a ticket and have turned to second-hand sources, despite warnings from festival organisers that scams are rampant. One victim, Zara McGettigan, was conned out of €360. She told The Journal that she initially didn't trust that the tickets were legitimate, but after exchanging photos and video messages with the alleged scammer over Snapchat, she felt the woman was trustworthy. They'd also previously met in person and had mutual acquaintances. The alleged scammer said she had to sell her tickets because she'd failed her college exams and repeats were taking place on the Friday and Monday of the festival, making it impossible for her to attend. At first, McGettigan was only asked to transfer half the amount the ticket was worth, and agreed that she'd give the rest once tickets became transferable via Ticketmaster closer to the date of the festival. 'Then a couple of days later, I get a message from her. She said, 'Oh, somebody's offering me €450. Do you reckon you could send the rest on?' 'I probably did it a bit in the spur of the moment. I just sent it on. But again, I know this girl, I've met her before.' Advertisement McGettigan said they spoke frequently in the weeks after that. Once the tickets became transferrable, McGettigan's friends began receiving theirs, which they'd bought from other second-hand sources. But McGettigan still hadn't received hers. Last Thursday, she texted the woman who gave various excuses as to why she couldn't send the ticket immediately. On Sunday, McGettigan received a message from the woman saying her Revolut had been hacked. McGettigan didn't understand how this would affect the ticket transfer. Figuring it was a scam, she reported the woman to gardaí. She said that since she posted a TikTok about the experience, she's been inundated with comments and messages from people saying they were scammed by the same person. Some say they've got their money back. Others haven't. 'Who is going to be scammed by someone they know in real life?' one alleged victim said in a TikTok video. This woman told her followers that she only realised she may have been scammed when she read the comments under McGettigan's video. When she confronted the accused, she was told that there was a problem with transferring the tickets but that it would be fixed soon. When she asked for her money back, she was told it couldn't be sent on Revolut but would be sent via bank transfer. As it was a Friday night, it would only arrive on Monday. However, the victim did not believe the money was sent, and she subsequently went to gardaí. A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána confirmed that it is investigating the case. 'It is important that people exert a great degree of caution if attempting to purchase tickets for a sold-out event through any third-party, known or otherwise,' they said. 'Do not trust that the tickets you believe you are purchasing are real. It is likely that they will not materialise and in fact, do not exist. 'Please do not send money through any app in advance.' Gardaí are appealing to anyone who believes that they may have been a victim of online fraud to report it at a local garda station in person or by phone, or alternatively call the Freephone Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111. Katie Taylor reflects on 'devastating lows and amazing highs' in touching post
Katie Taylor has paid tribute to those in her inner circle who have stood by her side through the good times and the bad. Fresh off defeating Amanda Serrano for a third consecutive time, Taylor has been taking to social media to show respect to those closest to her. Last week, she posted a heartfelt message for her father, Pete, who returned to her corner for the Serrano trilogy fight after many years staying away from her boxing career. This week, the 'Bray bomber' took to Instagram to thank her friends, family and coaches for being by her side through 'devastating lows and amazing highs.' "You never win alone. Only by the grace of God. A collective effort from those who believed in me. Those who walked this journey with me, the devastating lows and amazing highs. Unending encouragement. Unconditional love. Family. Coach. Friends. My team," wrote Taylor on Instagram as a caption on a picture of herself with her loved ones. In the photo, which was taken backstage following her win over Serrano, members of Taylor's family - such as her mother Bridget - can be seen, while the likes of promoter Eddie Hearn, manager Brian Peeters and trainer Ross Enamait can also be seen. That win marked the end of her rivalry with Serrano, who she has fought three times since 2022. What comes next for Taylor is anybody's guess. It had been rumoured that the third Serrano bout would be her final ever contest, but weeks on from that win, Taylor has yet to make a definitive statement on her future. While her fighting career is shrouded in mystery, dad Pete shed light on her personal life as he confirmed that Katie was married after the undisputed super-lightweight champion was spotted wearing a wedding ring in the weeks leading up to the Serrano trilogy fight.

Rose of Tralee winner says title means more than tiara amid bosses' decision
Rose Of Tralee winner Katelyn Cummins has said winning the title means more to her than getting to wear a tiara. This year, the Laois Rose was given a mega prize package, including a car for 12 months, a Kerry holiday and free hair styling for a year, in exchange for the coveted tiara. It comes after festival bosses decided in 2022 to scrap giving a stunning bespoke tiara designed by either Tipperary Crystal and Newbridge Silverware to the winner. But electrician apprentice Katelyn revealed she didn't even think in the moment about what she had won. She told the Irish Mirror: 'It was absolutely unreal. Like, you don't even think in the moment that I'm not getting this or I'm not doing that. You're just in the moment and you're enjoying just being given the title, (which) is everything to me. Do you know what I mean? 'Like, there's nothing quite like it,' she said. RTÉ revealed that over half a million viewers tuned in to see the Laois Rose crowned this year's Rose of Tralee winner. Katelyn said waking up on Wednesday morning as the Rose of Tralee winner felt 'surreal'. 'It feels surreal. Honestly, it doesn't feel real at all like this after happening, and I don't think it will for a few days. 'I think I'm just going to kind of enjoy my time with the girls and the lads down here, and then I think it'll all hit me when I head back home.' The 20-year-old plans to return back to work as an electrician next Monday morning. Figures from RTÉ revealed that on Tuesday night, a peak audience of 532,000 tuned in at 11.20pm as the 2025 International Rose of Tralee was crowned. Across Monday and Tuesday night's broadcasts, RTÉ One and RTÉ One +1 drew an average audience of 424,000. On Tuesday night, an average audience of 505,000 watched after the news on RTÉ One, with a 55 per cent share of the available audience tuning in. The show had a 1-minute reach of over 1.2 million on RTÉ One and RTÉ One +1 across both nights. Laois Rose Katelyn Cummins reacts to winning the Rose of Tralee (Image: RTE News) It was a record high for the RTÉ Player as it has so far recorded 202,000 total streams to date for the festival, with viewers tuning in from more countries than ever before. A total of 102 countries around the world, including the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Germany, Greece, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, United Arab Emirates, Mexico, India, Kenya and Malaysia, all had viewers tuning in. Katelyn previously opened up about taking a trade as her career path and how some of her customers get a shock when they see her at their front door. She previously said: 'Yes, they would be shocked in a good way. People are very enthusiastic in a good way about it. They're very supportive and ask me if I know any more female electricians. I love doing it and I am so happy that there are more women getting into it now. 'It's so empowering for women to be able to see that there are other women doing it. I think that pushes other women to do that I am delighted about.' She also said it was her dad who introduced her to being an electrician. 'Growing up on a dairy farm, I'm so used to working with my hands… the hard work was always built into me from such a young age. 'School was never really for me. I didn't enjoy it that much. The Leaving Cert didn't stress me out. After I did work experience in TY, I knew I wanted to do something different. 'My dad dropped me in with the local electrician for the week and I absolutely loved it.' Katelyn Cummins (Image: Domnick Walsh © Eye Focus LTD) Opening up about her decision to enter the Kerry festival, she said she was looking forward to meeting new friends. She said: 'It was the exciting idea of making new friends. I originally took part in the Laois selection because I didn't have that many friends in Laois and I wanted to make more friends and have a better social life in Laois with lots of new girls. 'With my job, I just work with a lot of lads all the time so it would be nice to meet a lot of new girls. After school, girls drift apart, and it was just wanting to make more friends in the area.' Katelyn added that seeing last year's Rose of Tralee winner Keeley O'Grady encouraged her to enter the competition. 'I'm 20 and I was approached by the coordinator back two years ago when I was working part-time in a hotel. She was going around scouting for girls and she asked. 'But I had just turned 18 and I felt I was too young for it. I was doing my Leaving Cert year as well. 'Then when I saw Keeley O'Grady was 21 and crowned the Rose of Tralee it just showed that anything is possible, and you didn't have to have a certain background or be a certain age. 'That's probably what pushed me. I think it's so empowering for girls this year because there was such a wide age group. There's a lot of younger girls going for it.'
