Three arrested in Bengal for writing anti-India posts over Operation Sindoor
In all these cases the matter was brought to the notice of the district police authorities concerned by the local BJP leadership in the respective districts.
The primary teacher, who is currently in police custody for questioning for making such posts has been identified as Shamsher Alam Khan, who is posted to Egra from the East Midnapore district.
It was brought to the notice of the East Midnapore district police that during the last couple of days that Khan had been making sweeping comments on his social media account, claiming that India was suffering in the conflict with Pakistan, and also wrote the slogan of "Pakistan Zindabad" in these posts.
The police first questioned him on why he made such anti-India posts on social media.
However, sources aware of the development said that following several inconsistencies in his replies, the police finally detained him for further questioning.
Similarly, another person, Milan Sheikh, was arrested at Katwa in East Burdwan district, on Monday, for making similar anti-India posts on Operation Sindoor.
"India accepted defeat to Pakistan almost immediately after the conflict started between the two countries. Let us have a Nagin dance to celebrate that," his social media posts said.
The post came to the notice of the local BJP leadership, and they informed the police.
The policemen arrested Khan and booked him under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita namely Section 147 (punishment for waging, or attempting to wage war, or abetting waging of war against Indian government), Section 152 (punishment for acts endangering sovereignty unity and integrity of India) and Section 299 (punishment for deliberate and malicious intent to outrage the religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious belief).
The third individual arrested on Monday over similar charges of making anti-India posts on social media was Imran Sheikh.
An original resident of Murshidabad district, he was arrested in Barjora in Bankura district.
Several anti-India comments were seen in his subsequent posts on social media.

India has shut a unit at its Kudankulam nuclear reactor , the largest in the country, for scheduled maintenance last week, according to an outage report, possibly spiking power prices for southern regions. The 1,000 megawatt (MW) Unit 1 at Kudankulam in the southern state of Tamil Nadu was shut on August 3, the Central Electricity Authority, the country's power advisory body, said in a report dated August 7. Confirming that one unit of Kudankulam is under maintenance, a senior official with Tamil Nadu Distribution and Generation Company said the state might have to tap market sources if the need for additional demand arises. Earlier, the Kerala State Electricity Board Ltd (KSEBL) filed a petition with the state's electricity regulator, saying the shutdown is expected to worsen the peak-hour electricity shortages in some southern states, driving up short-term power procurement costs. The 65-day outage, coupled with low volumes on power exchanges and increased demand from neighbouring states, had forced it to procure 300 MW of peak-hour power at rates as high as 9.18 rupees ($0.1048) per unit of electricity. The utility finalised purchases from Tata Power at 8.75 rupees per unit and Greenko Energies at 9.18 rupees per unit for the slot between 07:00 PM IST and 00:00 AM IST slot throughout August, the petition showed. "The projected peak-hour deficit of around 600 MW in August 2025 may worsen due to the scheduled refuelling outage of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant," KSEBL said. Kerala's electricity regulator approved the emergency procurement but flagged concerns over the high tariffs . The other 1,000 MW unit 2 at Kudankulam is operating normally, according to the Tamil Nadu government official. Political slugfest erupts over renaming of Kolkata's iconic Sealdah station
Kolkata: A fresh political tussle has broken out between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the proposed renaming of Kolkata's iconic Sealdah Railway Station. While the Trinamool Congress wants the Sealdah station to be renamed after Swami Vivekananda, the West Bengal unit of the BJP wants it to be renamed after Syama Prasad Mukherjee. Both the BJP and the Trinamool Congress have their own logic. According to BJP former state president in West Bengal and Union Minister of State, Dr Sukanta Majumdar, Sealdah station was denied the main transit point status for the Hindu refugees during the partition of undivided India. 'The man responsible for ensuring the proper livelihood of these Hindu refugees was Syama Prasad Mukherjee. So, in his memory as well as keeping in mind the significance of Sealdah station for the transit of refugees, the station should be named after him,' Majumdar said. However, Trinamool Congress state general secretary, Kunal Ghosh, has rejected Majumdar's logic. According to him, there is a port in West Bengal that is already named after Syama Prasad Mukherjee. There is no necessity for a station to be named after him. 'Rather, Sealdah has a direct link with Swami Vivekananda. After delivering his iconic speech at a religious conference in Chicago in the USA, he came to Sealdah station. So there is a direct link between him and the station. So the station should be named after him," Ghosh said. However, Majumdar admitted that naming Sealdah station after Syama Prasad Mukhopadhyay would not be easy, as the name change of any railway station in any state required the concurrence of the state government concerned. 'The station's name will be changed following the recommendation of the state government concerned. So I will request the Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, that her government sends the proposal for renaming the station after Syama Prasad Mukherjee,' Majumdar said.
