Nehru denies DMK MLA's allegation
Trichy: Municipal administration minister K N Nehru has denied DMK MLA M Palaniyandi's allegations that projects from Srirangam constituency were diverted to other constituencies under the minister's influence.
"How is it possible to shift something allocated for one place? It is not possible. He (Palaniyandi) simply says so," he said responding to reporters' questions after distributing free land documents to beneficiaries at an event in Trichy. On Tuesday, Palaniyandi had said at the DISHA meeting that he had earlier obtained permissions for two new high-level bridges at Kannudaiyanpatti and Samudram in Srirangam constituency, but the Samudram project was diverted to Mannachanallur constituency.
Asked about alleged drinking water contamination through pipelines in Andanallur block, Nehru said the contamination was caused by soil intrusion and has since been rectified.

When asked about the possibility of peace, the students offered different perspectives but shared a common desire for an end to violence. 'I believe peace is possible, but only if the governments truly want it. Right now, war benefits political and economic agendas. That is why innocent people continue to suffer,' said a student. Another added, 'Yes, I believe there is a chance for peace, but only if the governments truly want it. Even now, with the ongoing nuclear talks, there is an opportunity to move toward peace. At the end of the day, borders are man-made. What truly matters is that we are all people with the same hopes, fears, and dreams, living in overlapping cultures.' CM emphasizes women's empowerment as state's priority
1 2 Cuttack: CM Mohan Charan Majhi declared that respecting women is the fundamental lesson of political training while addressing a state-level women's empowerment convention, Nari Shakti Samabesa, at Bali Yatra ground here on Tuesday. The convention marked the beginning of the state govt's second year in office. "The sole purpose of this convention is to develop women of Odisha into our greatest strength," Majhi said emphasising that state's development is impossible without uplifting half of its population. He highlighted the Subhadra scheme as the state's most revolutionary women's welfare programme. "Many mothers across different regions are using Subhadra assistance for various economic activities, collective farming, and earning a good livelihood for their families," he said. Majhi proudly announced that Odisha currently leads the nation in creating "Lakhpati Didis", with more than 1.6 million women achieving this status under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of making women economically self-reliant. The state govt's commitment to women's empowerment is reflected in this year's budget allocation of Rs 89,861 crore exclusively for women's initiatives. The administration has also facilitated business opportunities worth Rs 3,695 crore to self-help groups, benefiting over 3.07 lakh groups. Deputy chief minister Pravati Parida announced plans to accelerate the Subhadra assistance programme, aiming to create a Lakhpati Didi in every family and a Crorepati Didi in every panchayat in the coming year. The event also saw the launch of a coffee table book showcasing the nutrition campaign's activities and honoured women who have made remarkable contributions through the women's empowerment department. Ministers inspect arrangements ahead of CM's visit to Thanjavur
Trichy: State municipal administration minister K N Nehru and higher education minister Govi Chezhian visited Thanjavur on Friday and inspected the arrangements ahead of chief minister M K Stalin 's visit to the district on June 15 and 16. Nehru and Chezhian inspected the Grand Anicut barrage (Kallanai), where the chief minister is expected to release the waters for irrigation for the kuruvai crop in the delta districts. The ministers saw the painting and the minor renovation works at the Kallanai barrage. Stalin is also anticipated to lead a road show in the town and unveil a new life-size statue of former chief minister M Karunanidhi near the old bus stand. Thanjavur district collector B Priyanka Pankajam, central region inspector general of police Joshi Nirmal Kumar, Thanjavur superintendent of police R Rajaram, Thiruvaiyaru MLA Durai Chandrasekaran, WRD chief engineer R Dhayalakumar, and other senior officials were present.
