Green River Road 1 reconfigured after 2024 washout
Officials initially feared these repairs would exceed $200,000. Henderson County Judge Executive Brad Schneider says the final price tag was $70,000, with 75% of that covered by state grants. The cost was considerably lower, according to Schneider, thanks to the county using recycled concrete rubble from the ongoing I-69 Ohio River Crossing (ORX) project to repair the area.

Henderson County Engineer Nick Stallings says 850 feet of new roadway has withstood two rounds of flooding, including the historic floods in April of 2025. 'We were actually lucky with the second flood because the waters came in slow and they left slow,' explains Stallings. 'So, with slow, stationary, stagnant water, it doesn't pour everything out. So if it came in quick and went out quick, that would be a turbulent flow, that would take out more of our road.'
Towards the end of his presentation, Stallings jokingly said he believes this will be the last update on Green River Road 1, a nod to the hope that this new configuration will stand up against future flooding.

Lineage and Port of New Orleans Collaborate to Expand Bonded Warehouse Space, Strengthening Global Trade Flows
Lineage's Jourdan Road cold storage facility in New Orleans now offers both I-House capabilities and customs bonded space, enhancing supply chain resilience and consumer access. NEW ORLEANS, August 21, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Lineage, Inc. (NASDAQ: LINE) (the "Company"), the world's largest global temperature-controlled warehouse REIT, together with the Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA), today announced the certification of Lineage's Jourdan Road facility in New Orleans East as a Class 3 Public Bonded Warehouse. This milestone marks Lineage's first customs bonded facility in Louisiana and strengthens Port NOLA's role as a premier Gulf gateway for global trade. Earlier this year, the Jourdan Road facility also became the only public import house or I-House in Louisiana. The Jourdan Road facility is one of a kind in Louisiana by offering these two important features: I-House capabilities, providing on-site USDA inspections of imported food. Customs bonded storage, allowing goods to be securely stored under U.S. Customs supervision until duties and tariffs are paid. These services help importers move food products into the U.S. more efficiently, which can also keep costs lower for businesses and ultimately consumers. By reducing delays and streamlining inspections, bonded and I-House facilities make it easier for perishable goods like beef, pork, seafood, and exotic meats to reach grocery shelves and restaurant kitchens quickly and safely. "In today's ever-evolving international trade landscape, having the right infrastructure with secure, customs-regulated storage is of growing importance to our customers," said Brian Beattie, President, Western US Operations at Lineage. "The dual I-House and customs bonded designation positions Lineage on Jourdan Road as one of the most versatile cold storage facilities in the state." "This partnership demonstrates the power of aligning Port NOLA's world-class multimodal connectivity with Lineage's industry-leading cold storage expertise," said Beth Branch, Port NOLA President and CEO and New Orleans Public Belt (NOPB) CEO. "By combining these expanded services, we are helping to strengthen Louisiana's position in the global supply chain and ensuring that families across America have dependable access to temperature-sensitive products." Located on the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal in New Orleans East, the Jourdan Road facility spans over 304,000 square feet. Its proximity to major protein producers, global shipping routes, and intermodal networks makes it ideally suited for handling high-volume, temperature-sensitive cargo. With this certification, Lineage now operates 12 bonded warehouses in the U.S. and 42 USDA-approved I-House facilities, furthering the company's efforts to enhance the global cold chain through strategically placed hubs and specialized import/export services. Together with Port NOLA's deepwater access and six Class I rail connections, this expansion reinforces New Orleans' role as a critical trade gateway linking international markets to America's consumers. Video Shows Patriot Missile Exploding Midair During Defense Drill
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A Taiwan-operated Patriot air defense missile exploded shortly after launch during a firing exercise, as the self-ruled island faces mounting military pressure from its neighbor, China. The Taiwanese military told local media that it is investigating the cause of the incident, while publicly stating that the annual drill was completed and its results will be reviewed. China's Foreign Ministry did not immediately respond to a written request for comment. Why It Matters The Chinese Communist Party claims sovereignty over Taiwan—despite never having governed the island—and has vowed to use force to achieve unification if necessary. The Chinese military launched ballistic missiles into waters around Taiwan during a large-scale exercise in 2022. Facing China's military threat, Taiwan has acquired Patriot missiles and other weapons from the United States, with Washington legally required to provide the island with "defensive arms," even though the two countries have not maintained diplomatic relations since 1979. The Patriot air defense system—which was recently tested in combat in the Middle East—is capable of intercepting aerial threats including tactical ballistic missiles. Taiwan reportedly operates nine Patriot batteries, each consisting of up to eight launchers. Patriot missile launchers are deployed at a local park during Taiwan's annual Han Kuang military exercise in Taipei on July 11, 2025. I-HWA CHENG/AFP via Getty Images What To Know Images and footage shared by the Facebook page Taiwan ADIZ show that during a firing exercise in southern Taiwan early Wednesday, a Patriot Advanced Capability-2 (PAC-2) missile exploded a few seconds after launch, while a second one was fired without incident. Taiwan News reported that this marked the second time the island's PAC-2 missile force—which was first delivered in 1996—has experienced a midair explosion since 2023. According to the U.S. Missile Defense Agency, the ground-launched PAC-2 missile has a range of more than 60 miles. Unlike the newer PAC-3, which intercepts targets by impacting them directly, the PAC-2 detonates its high-explosive warhead near targets to destroy them. Zheng Jian, a Chinese professor specializing in Taiwan affairs, told China's state-run Global Times on Wednesday that the incident reflected what he described as the "outdated nature" of U.S.-supplied weapons and the limited maintenance capacity of the Taiwanese military. The missile-launch incident comes ahead of a highly anticipated Chinese military parade scheduled for September 3. A Chinese military official said on Wednesday that the event will feature never-before-seen weapons. A Patriot Advanced Capability-2 (PAC-2) missile explodes a few seconds after launch during a firing exercise in southern Taiwan on August 20, 2025. Taiwan ADIZ Facebook page U.S. defense contractor Raytheon claimed says the Patriot is one of the most widely adopted air and missile defense systems in the world, operated in 19 countries, including Ukraine. As of May 29, the system has been used in combat in more than 250 engagements. Taiwan is set to operate another U.S. air defense weapon—the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS)—by the end of the year to protect its capital, Taipei. What People Are Saying Raytheon said in a press release in May: "Patriot has been continually upgraded and modernized to counter new and emerging threats. Key developments include the introduction of the Patriot Advanced Capability-2, or PAC-2, and later the Patriot Advanced Capability-3, or PAC-3, missiles, which brought significant enhancements in accuracy, range and lethality." Senior Colonel Zhang Xiaogang, spokesperson for China's Defense Ministry, said in April: "I want to underline that the U.S. arms sales to Taiwan cannot change the strength contrast between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait much less impede the historical and inevitable trend of China's reunification." What Happens Next It remains to be seen whether Taiwan will place additional orders for Patriot firing units from the U.S. amid China's growing missile capabilities and the Trump administration's demands that allies and partners boost defense spending.
