‘Shame On You, Mass Murderer': Protesters Confront Asim Munir In Washington
Last Updated:
Asim Munir faced an embarrassing reception upon his arrival in the United States for an official five-day visit, after a crowd shouted "shame on you mass murderer".
Pakistan's Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, who is on an official visit to the United States, faced major embarrassment after a group of people shouted 'shame on you, mass murderer" and 'shame on you, dictator" upon his arrival at a hotel in Washington.
In videos widely shared on social media, people could be seen arguing with the authorities in the United States, yelling that they have a freedom of speech.
Another video showed a poster which read, 'Mass Murderer Asim Munir".
According to Dawn, Munir arrived in Washington on Sunday for a five-day official visit aimed at reinforcing military and strategic ties between Pakistan and the United States.
The report also claimed that Munir did not attend the military parade.
Earlier, the White House had denied that Asim Munir was invited to the Washington Military Parade on Saturday.
'This is false. No foreign military leaders were invited," a White House official said of the reports about the invitation to Munir.
Recently, the Pakistan government bestowed the rank of Field Marshal – the nation's highest military title – upon General Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff.
The Shehbaz Sharif government officially justified the move on the grounds of Munir's 'exemplary leadership" during the latest military confrontation with India.
Munir's promotion to Field Marshal follows a recent military escalation between India and Pakistan, after India launched 'Operation Sindoor' in retaliation to the killing of 26 tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on 22 April by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba-affiliated terrorists.

FATF says Pahalgam attack not possible without money support; report on terror funding soon
'Terrorist attacks kill, maim and inspire fear around the world. The FATF notes with grave concern and condemns the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April 2025. This, and other recent attacks, could not occur without money and the means to move funds between terrorist supporters,' the FATF said in a statement. The Financial Action Task Force (FATF), in a rare move, condemned the terror attack and said it will increase its scrutiny on countries to see what steps they are taking to combat terror financing. New Delhi, Jun 16 (PTI) Global watchdog FATF on Monday said the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people, would not have been possible without money support, and it will soon release a report on terror financing cases, including state-sponsored terrorism. Sources said FATF rarely issues condemnation of terrorist acts. It is only the third time in last decade that they have issued condemnation of a terrorist attack. It had earlier issued condemnations once in 2015 and then in 2019 in severe cases of terrorist attacks. The FATF statement comes in the backdrop of Indian authorities highlighting Pakistan's persistent support for terrorism and its funnelling of multilateral funds for arms procurement. According to sources, such action by Pakistan warrants that the country be put in the 'grey list' of the FATF. India has consistently held that Pakistan has given safe haven to designated terrorists and the same was evident when senior military officials were present at the funeral of the terrorists killed in Indian military attacks of May 7. Ahead of the next meeting of the Asia Pacific Group (APG) of FATF on August 25 and the next FATF plenary and working group meeting on October 20, India is preparing a dossier on the omissions and commissions by Pakistan with respect to FATF anti-money laundering and terror financing norms. India will be submitting to the FATF for grey listing of Pakistan. The rare condemnation by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) shows that the 'international community has felt the severity of the attack', which killed 26 people in Pahalgam, Kashmir,on April 22, and spotlights that such attacks will not go unpunished, sources said, adding the terror attack was done by Pakistan-trained terrorists, sources said. The FATF, which is a global money laundering and terrorist financing watchdog and sets international standards that aim to prevent these illegal activities, also said that it will soon release a 'comprehensive analysis of terrorist financing', compiling cases provided by its global network consisting 200 jurisdictions. 'It will also host a webinar to help public and private sectors understand the risks and stay alert to emerging threats,' it added. Sources said the report on terror financing risks would be released in a month's time. This is the first time the concept of 'state sponsored terrorism' is being acknowledged by FATF as a funding source. 'Only India's National Risk Assessment (NRA) recognises state-sponsored terrorism from Pakistan as a key TF risk. The inclusion of 'state sponsored terrorism' as a concept in the report demonstrates international recognition of state-sponsored terrorism by Pakistan,' sources added. Pakistan's history with FATF's 'grey list' dates back to February 2008, when it was placed in the monitoring list. In June 2010 it was removed from the list, only to be brought back in February 2012, and then removed again in February 2015. It was brought back in the list again for the third time in June 2018, and was later removed in October 2022 with FATF asking Pakistan to continue to work with APG to further improve its anti-moneylaundering/combating the financing of terror (AML/CFT) system. Currently, there are 24 countries in FATF 'grey list'. These countries are under increased monitoring and they have to address strategic deficiencies to counter money laundering, terrorist financing, and proliferation financing. The FATF statement further said that as terrorism continues to threaten societies and citizens around the world, the global watchdog is supporting over 200 jurisdictions within its global network to build and enhance their counter-financing of terrorism (CFT) measures including through the strategic use of financial intelligence — making this one of the most powerful instruments for dismantling terrorist financing networks. 'In addition to setting out the framework for combating terrorist financing, the FATF has enhanced its focus on the effectiveness of measures countries have put in place. That is how, through our mutual evaluations, we have identified gaps that need to be addressed,' it added. The FATF has been working for 10 years to help countries stay ahead of terrorist financing risk — for example relating to abuse of social media, crowd funding, and virtual assets. FATF President Elisa de Anda Madrazo at the recent 'No Money for Terror Conference' in Munich, had said: 'No single company, authority, or country can combat this challenge alone. We must be unified against the scourge of global terrorism. Because terrorists need to succeed only once to achieve their goal, while we have to succeed every time to prevent it.' Efforts underway to arrange elephant for Hyderabad Muharram procession
Days after the Forest Department expressed concerns over transporting an elephant over long distances to Hyderabad for the annual Muharram procession, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen legislator Mirza Riyaz-ul-Hasan Effendi said that his party is making efforts to arrange for one. The historic Muharram procession entails carrying the alam on an elephant from the Bibi ka Alawa. The HEH Nizam's Auqaf Committee and the Nizam Religious Trusts usually liaise with the State government for permission. According to Mr. Effendi, who spoke to the media after a Muharram review meeting with officials and public representatives, the HEH Nizam Auqaf Committee recently met AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi after which a representation was submitted to the government seeking speedy resolution of the issue. Mr Effendi appeared confident that the government would ensure that the elephant would be arranged for. Even as a way forward is being explored, Telangana State Waqf Board Chairman Syed Azmatullah Huseini said that ₹1 lakh was paid as an advance to bring the elephant to Hyderabad from Rajasthan. In the meanwhile, civic authorities have been making arrangements to deal with the large number of people who are expected to visit ashoorkhanas, including the Bibi ka Alawa, Badshahi Ashoorkhana, and other smaller ashoorkhanas. Maha: Sudhakar Badgujar, who faced charges of 'links' with underworld, joins BJP
Mumbai: Nashik-based politician Sudhakar Badgujar, who was recently sacked by the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena for anti-party activities, on Tuesday joined the BJP in the presence of state party chief and Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan and state unit working president Ravindra Chavan. The state Minister of Ports and Shipping, Nitesh Rane (BJP), had recently accused Badgujar of having links with Salim Kutta, an associate of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. Besides, the local legislator Seema Hire had also appealed to the party leadership not to induct Badgujar into the party fold. More importantly, Bawankule had expressed serious reservations over accommodating Badgujar in the party. At the time of Badgujar's official entry today, Bawankule admitted there is discord but not differences of opinion (Manbhed aahet Manbhed nahit). Some BJP leaders claim that the BJP will benefit in the local and civic body elections following Badgujar's entry. Dramatic events were witnessed during Badgujar's entry into the BJP. He was to join at 2 pm when Minister Girish Mahajan had reached the party office in South Mumbai. But state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule and executive state president Ravindra Chavan had not reached the office. Finally, after many phone calls, Bawankule reached the party office. 'I had no idea about Badgujar's entry today. I thought the party entry was tomorrow,' said Bawankule, who reached the party office after attending the weekly cabinet meeting. Party insiders said that Bawankule was not eager for Badgujar's entry as the latter had made some exposés about his foreign visit. Further, a section of the party leaders from Nashik and also at the state level objected to Badgujar's entry as they cited the allegations made by Minister of Ports and Shipping Nitesh Rane for his links to underworld don Salim Kutta. This had created a ruckus in the state assembly. Thereafter, the then-Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis had ordered an investigation through an SIT in this case. However, Nitesh Rane, who had earlier lashed out at Badgujar, today welcomed Badgujar's entry into the party. 'If anyone comes with us with the thread of Hindutva, we will welcome him. Badgujar has now become 100 per cent saffron. Badgujar's journey towards Hindutva has begun in earnest. His son was at the forefront of the Sakal Hindutva Morcha that we organised a few days ago,' he said. After his official entry, Badgujar said, 'Today I joined the BJP. I thank the BJP and Devendra Fadnavis. Girish Mahajan is a problem solver. When a disaster strikes, he makes a way, and he made my way. I am innocent.' He further assured that he will work with full loyalty to the party and work hard for its consolidation ahead of the upcoming local and civic body elections.
