Adam Brody Reveals He Auditioned for Blue's Clues: 'I Really Wanted It But Didn't Get'

Adam Brody, known for The O.C., revealed he auditioned hard for a role but didn't get it.
Before he became everyone's favorite witty teen in The O.C., Adam Brody was just another young actor in Los Angeles chasing auditions — including one he really, really wanted. At a recent comedy actor roundtable hosted by The Hollywood Reporter, Brody revealed a surprising role he tried hard to land, and it wasn't in your typical teen drama.
Seated alongside Ted Danson, Jason Segel, Seth Rogen, Julio Torres, and John Mulaney, Brody was asked which role he had fought hardest for in his career. That's when he dropped the unexpected name: Blue's Clues.
'I tried real hard," the 45-year-old actor confessed, adding, 'It was like 1999, I auditioned for it, I wanted it, I didn't get it. But I would've loved it." The children's TV series had just become a sensation on Nick Jr. at the time, with Steve Burns charming toddlers across the world as the original host. Brody clearly saw the appeal but the role eventually went to someone else, and the hosting baton later passed to Donovan Patton and now Joshua Dela Cruz.
Seth Rogen, also part of the panel, nudged Brody with the question, 'You fought for it?" to which Brody smiled and repeated, 'I tried real hard."
But Blue's Clues wasn't the only one that got away. Brody also revealed that he once read for Henry Parker's role in Dawson's Creek, a part that ultimately went to Michael Pitt. He remembered the audition vividly: 'I read with Scott Speedman, sweating," he shared.
Thankfully, fate had other plans for Brody. Just a few years later, he landed his breakout role as Seth Cohen in The O.C., which debuted in 2003 and ran until 2007. The show made him a household name and starred Mischa Barton, Ben McKenzie, and Rachel Bilson.
Brody has since continued to explore comedy and was most recently seen in the Netflix rom-com series Nobody Wants This, playing a rabbi opposite Kristen Bell's podcast host. Season 2 is currently in the works.
