The head of IMN, Karim Hamadi, confirmed yesterday, Thursday, that the holding of 4th Arab Media Conference in Baghdad represents an important milestone in Iraq's openness to its Arab and regional surroundings, noting that Baghdad has once again become a center for Arab media.
"With great pride and honor, we celebrate today the convening of the Fourth Arab Media Conference on the land of Baghdad, to once again become a center for Arab dialogue, a platform for meetings, and a stage that reflects the history, the depth of the present, and the aspirations of the future,' The head of IMN said in his speech during the Fourth Arab Media Conference in Baghdad, attended by a reporter from the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
'Baghdad's hosting of this major media event, with the participation of more than 150 Arab media professionals and journalists, reflects the growing confidence in the role played by IMN as a national institution that seeks to establish a realistic media discourse that reflects the prosperous image of Iraq and its aspirations for a better future," He explained .
"Iraq has witnessed significant transformations in recent years in the political, economic, and urban aspects, and the media, led by IMN, played an active role in keeping pace with this journey, highlighting achievements, and conveying a balanced and responsible image of the reality of the country,' He added.
Prominent figures from Arab thinkers, media professionals, and decision-makers flocked to Baghdad, unanimously affirming that the media is no longer just a tool for conveying news, but has become a central actor in shaping public opinion and formulating public policies, especially on issues such as the environment, regional stability, and sustainable development.

Arab League condemns Israeli Gaza occupation plan

Shafaq News – Cairo The Arab League on Sunday condemned Israel's newly approved plan to seize Gaza City as a 'dangerous escalation' and called on the UN Security Council to impose sanctions, enforce an immediate ceasefire, and ensure unrestricted humanitarian aid to the enclave. Meeting in emergency session at Palestine's request, the League's permanent representatives—chaired by Jordan—said Israel's military operations and settlement policies in Gaza and the West Bank violate international law and amount to 'open aggression' against Arab states and their security. The discussions centered on Israel's security cabinet decision to reoccupy the Strip. The plan envisions a six months-long campaign starting with the forced relocation of more than 800,000 residents to southern Gaza over at least 45 days. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has defended the move while denying it represents a permanent occupation. The League's resolution countered that the strategy aims to 'liquidate the Palestinian cause' and strip Palestinians of their rights. Citing Gaza's Health Ministry, the League said 200 civilians—half of them children—have died from hunger during the war, accusing Israel of weaponizing starvation. It also alleged that 'death traps' under the so-called 'Gaza Humanitarian Authority' had killed 1,500 people and wounded thousands more. The resolution instructed Algeria and Somalia, the Arab League's current representatives on the Security Council, to submit a draft obligating Israel to halt its offensive, allow unconditional aid access, and end its occupation. Member states were urged to block arms transfers, review economic relations, and pursue legal proceedings against Israeli officials over alleged war crimes. The League also reiterated backing for Palestinian political unity and the Palestinian Authority's assumption of full governance over Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, under a unified legal and security framework. 'The United States has a particular responsibility to pressure Israel to halt aggression and crimes against Palestinians, including forced displacement and unlawful occupation,' the resolution stated.

Iraqi court postpones rulings in Kirkuk land dispute

Shafaq News – Kirkuk The Court of Appeal in Al-Dibis district postponed rulings on two lawsuits concerning a land row between Arab and Kurdish farmers in Kirkuk province, a representative of Kurdish farmers confirmed on Sunday. Kirkuk is a multi-ethnic province, home to Kurds, Arabs, Turkmen, and smaller communities such as Assyrians and other Christians, which has made it a highly disputed territory. Speaking to Shafaq News, Mohammed Amin noted that the lawsuits involve three Kurdish farmers cultivating land in the Shenagha and Sharshakh areas, stressing that the farmers' families have held the land for generations, yet ownership was reassigned to Arabs by the former regime as part of demographic policies. The court rescheduled the verdicts for August 25 and August 31. In February, several farmers from Shanaga village and neighboring areas in the Al-Dibis district reported that an army force prevented them from cultivating the lands and also assaulted their representative, following a court decision to return Kurdish-owned lands. Kurdish Leader Masoud Barzani condemned the army operation, likening the action to past acts of oppression such as the Anfal campaigns and chemical attacks. 'The treatment of Kurdish farmers and efforts to block their return reflect chauvinistic and criminal actions against innocent farmers who are the land's original owners.'

Syrian officials and Druze leaders to meet in Jordan

Shafaq News – Damascus Jordan's capital, Amman, is set to host talks between Syrian officials and Druze leaders from Suwayda province, aiming to ease the ongoing unrest in the southern region, Arab media reported on Sunday. Preparations are underway with US Special Envoy for Syria Thomas Barrack coordinating with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, several Arab foreign ministers, and Turkiye's foreign minister. According to Al-Quds Al-Arabi, a US diplomatic source highlighted efforts to secure the attendance of Sheikh Hikmat al-Hajri, Suwayda's main Druze religious leader that opposes the current government, along with elders from prominent Druze families and local faction commanders. It is unclear whether Suleiman Abd al-Baqi and Laith al-Ballous, both close to the Syrian government, will attend. Sheikh al-Hajri's participation is also uncertain, while Syrian Foreign Minister Assad al-Sheibani is not expected to join. Official Syrian representation likely includes Suwayda's internal security chief Ahmed al-Dallati, Daraa's general security chief Shahir Imran, and Suwayda Governor Mustafa al-Bakur. Suwayda, a mainly Druze province in southern Syria, has recently experienced months of protests over economic hardship and political grievances. Clashes between local groups and government forces have left about 1,300 dead.
