From 2014 to 2025, Prime Minister
Narendra Modi
's government has undertaken several major policy decisions, developmental initiatives, and impactful global engagements.
Let us reflect on some of the key highlights from these 11 years.
Economic reforms and infrastructure development
One of the most significant reforms was the implementation of the
Goods and Services Tax
(GST) in 2017, establishing a unified tax regime under the concept of One Nation, One Tax. This was a revolutionary change that streamlined the taxation system and strengthened the working dynamics of businesses across the country.
To boost industrial investment and position India as a global manufacturing hub, the
Make in India
campaign was launched.
This initiative quickly gained nationwide momentum and engaged citizens across all strata. Although some criticized the execution process, its impact was widely recognized.
Simultaneously, the
Digital India
initiative built a comprehensive digital infrastructure aimed at expanding internet access, promoting digital payments, and bringing government services online. This ambitious project transformed the way citizens interact with technology, and today, even street vendors and rickshaw pullers are commonly seen using platforms like Paytm and PhonePe.

In terms of infrastructure, the Modi government has significantly advanced India's core sectors. Noteworthy developments include the bullet train project, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, and modernization of the railway network. The number of expressways in India has increased substantially, transforming national connectivity.
Social welfare and public schemes
On the social front, the Ujjwala Yojana provided free LPG connections to millions of underprivileged women, improving household health and hygiene.
This initiative brought transformative changes to the lives of countless families. In the healthcare domain, the Ayushman Bharat scheme emerged as the world's largest government-funded health insurance program, providing free medical treatment to millions.
This marked a significant step toward improving healthcare access for the underprivileged.
Modi's vision has earned praise particularly for its focus on the poor, farmers, youth, and women empowerment.
While political criticism is inevitable, it is clear that many of the government's schemes were designed with the common citizen at the center.
A key example is the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi, under which ₹6,000 is transferred annually to farmers' bank accounts. This scheme not only provided direct financial support but also eliminated middlemen through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), ensuring transparency.
Another landmark initiative is the
Swachh Bharat Mission
, under which millions of toilets were built across the country, significantly reducing open defecation and fostering a national mindset shift toward cleanliness.
Foreign policy and national security
India's global stature also saw a major rise under Modi's leadership. India has played an influential role in global forums such as G20, BRICS, and the QUAD. Prime Minister Modi has earned respect on the international stage, and the perception of India and Indians has notably improved worldwide.
In terms of national security, India demonstrated its capability to respond decisively to threats. The 2016 surgical strike and the 2019 Balakot airstrike reflected a bold shift in defense strategy. Under the
Atmanirbhar Bharat
initiative, self-reliance in defense production has been prioritized.
Indigenous manufacturing of weapons and equipment, such as the supersonic BrahMos missile now being produced in Lucknow, is a testament to this progress.
Constitutional and political reforms
The government has enacted several historic constitutional and political changes over the last 11 years. The most prominent was the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, which revoked Jammu & Kashmir's special status and reorganized it into two Union Territories — a move widely regarded as historic.
By criminalizing triple talaq, the Modi government upheld gender equality and offered significant relief to Muslim women, a decision that sparked much discussion and praise.
Another controversial but impactful move was the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which was introduced to provide citizenship to persecuted minorities from neighboring countries. Despite the political debates it stirred, the policy marked a major shift in India's approach to citizenship.
Environment, energy, and global humanitarianism
In the fields of energy and the environment, the Modi government has made substantial strides. It led the establishment of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), positioning India as a global leader in renewable energy. Additionally, the widespread distribution of LED bulbs under government schemes has significantly reduced electricity consumption.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, India launched the world's largest vaccination campaign, effectively managing vaccine distribution through the digital platform CoWIN.
India also supplied vaccines to various countries, reflecting a commitment to global humanitarian efforts.
Conclusion
Over the past 11 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government has sought to redefine India's path across economic, technological, social, and global spheres. While these policies have attracted both support and criticism, it is undeniable that the Modi era has brought about a significant transformation in India's political landscape and governance style.

Ambedkar row: State SC panel issues notice to Lalu
Patna: Bihar State Commission for Scheduled Castes has issued a notice to RJD chief Lalu Prasad , demanding a response within 15 days as to why a case under the SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act should not be filed against him for allegedly disrespecting a photograph of Dr B R Ambedkar. The incident occurred during Lalu's birthday celebration on June 11. The letter, signed by commission vice-president Devendra Kumar on June 13, read, "You (Lalu) have insulted the photo of Constitution maker Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar on your birthday, which is being continuously seen on social media. The insult of Baba Saheb has hurt the honour of not only one class but the entire country. Therefore, give an explanation within 15 days and tell why a case should not be registered against you under the Scheduled Castes, Tribes Atrocities Act. " The controversy arose from a viral video showing an RJD worker placing Ambedkar's picture as a gift on a table near Lalu's feet. Lalu neither acknowledged nor touched the photograph, nor made any comment. The BJP has strongly criticised the incident. In defence, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, Lalu's son and former deputy chief minister, accused the BJP of levelling false accusations. "BJP has nothing to do with the principles and policies of Baba Saheb. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Eat 1 Teaspoon Every Night, See What Happens A Week Later [Video] getfittoday Undo Today, even at the age of 78, Laluji meets people for 10 hours. But those making allegations have no shame at all. BJP should learn that even at this age Laluji remains in touch with the public," he said. Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary wrote on X on Sunday, "It has been more than 36 hours since the video of Baba Saheb's insult came out. The whole of Bihar is hurt by that video, but not even two words of regret have come from RJD. Bihar has definitely seen the arrogance of Lalu's beloved son Tejashwi. Our question is that even after insulting Baba Saheb by keeping his photo near his feet, Lalu's son does not feel it is an insult, then after what other will RJD accept as an insult?" Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor also criticised Lalu and took a swipe at the Congress. "Rahul Gandhi says don't be afraid. Lalu had his feet in front of Baba Saheb's photo. If you have the courage, then show it by giving a statement on it," he said in Muzaffarpur on Sunday. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . There is no question of change in leadership in State, says Mahadevappa
Ruling out any possibility of replacing the Chief Minister in the State, Social Welfare Minister H.C. Mahadevappa has said that there is no question of change in leadership. 'We do not know when the Congress high command discussed with MLC Vishwanath about a change in leadership in the State,' he quipped. Addressing presspersons in Kalaburagi on Sunday, Mr. Mahadevappa affirmed that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will complete a full five-year term. The people of Karnataka have blessed the Congress for five years and also given an opportunity for Mr. Siddaramaiah to continue in office for five years, he added. Criticising the BJP leaders for their double standards while demanding the resignation of Mr. Siddaramaiah for the recent stampede during the RCB's victory celebrations in Bengaluru, Mr. Mahadevappa argued that a stampede claimed lives during Kumbh Mela, more than 250 people lost their lives in a plane crash in Ahmedabad and seven devotees flying from Kedarnath temple to Guptkashi in Uttarakhand were killed in a helicopter crash. Did anyone demand the Prime Minister's resignation, he asked. It is inappropriate to politicise such tragic and sorrowful events, he said. However, the State government has formed an inquiry commission to investigate the stampede and to look into procedural lapses. 'We shall wait for the commission's report,' the Minister added. Taking an oblique dig at the functioning of the Modi-led government at the Centre, Mr. Mahadevappa said that the glorification of a single individual can be a pathway towards dictatorship. When a leader is praised and his actions are portrayed as infallible, it can undermine democratic institutions and pave the way for authoritarian rule. To uphold democratic values and preserve them, a consortium of various progressive organizations organised in September last year a 2,500-km-long human chain across the State to spread awareness about the Constitution and democracy during the International Day of Democracy. One must remember that equality and harmony can be achieved only by following the teachings of the Buddha, Basava and Ambedkar, he reiterated. MLA Allamprabhu Patil, MLCs Thippannappa Kamaknoor and Jagdev Guttedar and Dalit leader D.G. Sagar were present.

Demand for Dalit CM is not under discussion for now, says Satish Jarkiholi
Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi has clarified that the demand for a Dalit Chief Minister in Karnataka is currently not under discussion. It has been put on a pause for over a year, he added. Addressing the media in Kalaburagi on Sunday, Mr. Jarkiholi said that the matter may be seriously revisited and discussed during the 2028 State elections. When questioned about the growing calls for a Dalit Chief Minister, Mr. Jarkiholi responded, 'as of now, this issue is not in discussion within our party as we have put a full stop to it. Let us take it up seriously during the 2028 elections.' He emphasised that the topic has not been active for the past year. Responding to BJP leader H. Vishwanath's recent remark suggesting a change in Chief Minister in November, Mr. Jarkiholi dismissed it outright, stating that Mr. Vishwanath is not a member of the Congress and hence, his statement holds no relevance. 'Why should I respond to comments made by someone from another party?' he questioned. Taking a dig at the BJP's repeated criticisms over the implementation of the Congress-led government's guarantee schemes at the cost of development, Mr. Jarkiholi said that development projects and welfare schemes are going on hand-in-hand. 'The BJP has been claiming for two years that there is no development because of the guarantee schemes and they will continue to do so for the next three years. However, in reality, all development works are progressing effectively alongside the guarantee programmes,' he said, urging people to compare department allocations under the previous BJP government led by Basavaraj Bommai and the current government led by Siddaramaiah to understand the difference. On the issue of GST compensation, the Minister criticised the Union government for withholding Karnataka's dues. 'We contribute ₹2 lakh crore in GST to the Centre. At the very least half of that should be returned to the State. So far, we have received only ₹36,000 crore,' he said and added that Karnataka's tax money is being diverted to fund infrastructure projects such as the Yamuna and Ganga expressways in States like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. 'Our money is being used to build roads in other States,' he added.
