And the rematch looked set to take place just five short months later with September 20 pencilled in.
Benn - who suffered defeat for the first time - was raring to go but Eubank - who spent two days in hospital - responded with radio silence.
And that looked to be the case behind the scenes and Benn and his promoter Eddie Hearn warned they would look elsewhere if an answer was not forthcoming.
Soon Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh and financial backers Sela also pulled out of talks - leaving the rematch all-but KO'd.

But in yet another U-turn - Ring Magazine - owned by Alalshikh - announced the rematch IS back on with a date and location revealed.
A post read: "The Ring has learned Sela completed the deal for the highly anticipated Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Conor Benn rematch on November 15 in Tottenham Stadium.
"The event will be presented as 'The Ring: Unfinished Business'. The event will be promoted by Sela and sponsored by Riyadh Season and Ring Magazine."
The rivalry dates back to 1990 when Eubank Sr defeated Benn's dad Nigel in nine classic rounds.

But the business was left unfinished after they controversially drew three years later - with Benn believing he was robbed of redemption.
Nearly three decades later and the sons were first due to renew the family feud in October 2022 in a 157lb catchweight clash.

But it was axed with just days to go after it emerged Benn had failed two pre-fight drug tests for Clomifene - known to boost testosterone levels.
Benn was provisionally suspended by United Kingdom Anti-Doping and the British Boxing Board of Control - despite protesting his innocence.
And he took his career to America for two wins at 150lb while fighting to clear his name.
Eventually, UKAD dropped the case against him, allowing Benn to return to fight Eubank on British soil - this time at the 160lb middleweight limit.

But the drama was not saved until the bout.
Eubank was fined £100,000 for slapping Benn in the face with an egg at the pre-fight press conference.
It was in response to the WBC blaming egg consumption as a potential reason for Benn's failed test.
Eubank then had to shell out £350,000 for weighing in 0.05lb over the middleweight limit a day before the bout.

And both were also made to weigh no less than 10lb over the morning of the bout amid the rehydration limit in their contract.
Eubank was also publicly at odds with his dad - who did not want the grudge match to go ahead due to the weight disparity.
But, just hours before the first bell and the two reunited with Tottenham's 62,000-seater stadium erupting at the sight.
Eubank Sr and Benn watched as their sons put on an epic war for 36 minutes straight in the ring.

And it was Eubank Jr who emerged with the unanimous decision.
But he also spent two days in hospital due to severe dehydration as a result of his weight cut and rehydration restriction.
Benn also spent time in hospital but vowed to gain revenge by snubbing a move back down to welterweight.
And it appears he will get his chance at redemption - back at the scene of the first fight.
