"Great news for education sector": PM Modi hails India's 2026 QS World University Rankings
New Delhi [India], June 19 (ANI): The QS World University 2026 Rankings bring great news for our education sector, as the government is committed to furthering research and innovation ecosystems for the benefit of India's youth, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday, highlighting how India added 43 more universities in the list since 2014.

Reposting the post by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan hailed the improvement in India's ranking, from having only 11 universities in the QS world university rankings in 2014 to 54 Higher Educational Institutes (HEIs) being included this year.
India has achieved its strongest-ever performance in the QS World University Rankings 2026, with 54 institutions making it to the global list, a 390 per cent increase over the past decade and the highest growth among G20 countries.
Calling the increase in the institutions being included in the list, Union Minister Pradhan highlighted it as a 'testament to the transformative educational reforms ushered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.'
The Union Minister underlined that India has the 'fastest growing education system' among the G20 countries, and the fourth most represented, only behind the United States, the United Kingdom, and China.
'With a record 54 HEIs featuring among the global best, India hits a new high in the QS World University 2026 Rankings. From just 11 universities in 2014 to 54 in the latest rankings, this five-fold jump is a testament to the transformative educational reforms ushered in by the PM Narendra Modi govt. in the last decade. NEP 2020 is not just changing our educational landscape, it is revolutionising it,' Pradhan mentioned in a post on X.
According to QS World University Rankings 2026, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has emerged as the country's top-ranked institution, securing the 123rd spot globally -- a jump of 27 places from last year's position of 150.
IIT Bombay and IIT Madras followed at 129th and 180th, respectively. Notably, IIT Madras entered the global top 200 for the first time.
The rankings, released by global higher education analysts QS (Quacquarelli Symonds), cover over 1,500 universities from 106 countries and territories. India is now the fourth most represented country, behind only the United States (192), the United Kingdom (90), and Mainland China (72). (ANI)

'These stones that are remains of the mighty temples once built by King Avantivarman in what was once his capital tell tales of the cultural glory of that era,' he added. The Union Minister also met J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. An official said the duo 'discussed strategic measures for strengthening the tourism sector in Jammu and Kashmir.' The one-on-one meeting focused on a broad range of initiatives aimed at boosting tourism infrastructure, promoting heritage and cultural sites, and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for local communities, the official said. Both the leaders underscored the significance of tourism as a key driver of economic growth and cultural exchange in the region. Mr. Abdullah, the spokesman, expressed appreciation for the Centre's continued support and reiterated the Government of Jammu and Kashmir's resolve to revive and reimagine the tourism sector to unlock its full potential for inclusive development.

Modi gifts Odisha's artefacts to world leaders during recent tours
1 2 Bhubaneswar: During his recent international tours, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted a curated selection of Odisha's finest traditional art and artefacts, including Pattachitra painting, silver filigree works and miniature replicas of the iconic Konark wheel, to his counterparts and global leaders. People of Odisha, including politicians and artisans, said such recognition can boost global demand, tourism, and economic opportunities for Odisha's artists. During his meeting with Croatian president Zoran Milanović, the Prime Minister presented a traditional Pattachitra painting, known for its intricate depictions of mythological tales, particularly stories from the Jagannath tradition. Chief minister Mohan Majhi expressed his gratitude to the PM for selecting the timeless creations from Odisha as a gift and wrote in an X post: "Time and again, Prime Minister Modi ji has brought global recognition to Odisha's rich cultural and spiritual heritage. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said soon a time would come when those speaking English in the country would 'feel ashamed'. Shah, who was speaking at a book launch event here, said those who do not speak Indian languages cease to remain fully Indian and that India cannot be understood through 'foreign languages'. I know that this fight is tough, but I strongly believe that Bharatiya society will win this fight.' 'Once again, with pride, we will run our country using our languages; we will think, research, find solutions and also lead the world,' Shah said. In recent years, the BJP-led government at the Centre has found itself in the middle of language rows involving the DMK-led government in Tamil Nadu, which has accused it of Hindi imposition. The Centre has denied this, saying the three-language formula does not make Hindi compulsory. Shah, however, spoke of Indian languages without going into which language can be a link language in a linguistically diverse country.
