Who are the Top 10 Impact Transfer Quarterbacks Entering the 2025 CFB Season?
Of course, an enormous number of players change teams through the portal every year, making it easy for one to forget a move or two. With that in mind, which quarterbacks will have the biggest impact on their new programs?
Here are the top 10 impact transfer quarterbacks entering the 2025 college football season, according to FOX Sports Research.
Moss waited his turn for three seasons at USC before getting the starting nod for the 2024 season. While he was benched after nine games, Moss flashed some promise in the appearances he did make, showcasing an ability to be decisive and fire quick, crisp passes. In 2024, Moss totaled 2,555 passing yards, 18 passing touchdowns, nine interceptions and a 135.1 passer rating, while completing 64.4% of his passes. Moss joins a Louisville program that's 19-8 in its first two seasons under head coach Jeff Brohm. Ironically, the best game of Moss' collegiate career came when USC played Louisville in the 2023 Holiday Bowl in what was Moss' first career start and one that saw him throw for 372 yards and six touchdowns.
After redshirting his 2023 freshman season, Mensah was Tulane's starting quarterback in 2024 and balled out. Last season, Mensah totaled 2,723 passing yards, 22 passing touchdowns, six interceptions and a 166.7 passer rating, while completing 65.9% of his passes. His passer rating and completion percentage each led the AAC. Mensah entered the transfer portal following Tulane's loss to Army in the AAC Championship Game, with the Green Wave going 9-4 with him as their quarterback. The now-junior joins a Duke program that's coming off a 9-4 season in what was its first season under head coach Manny Diaz.
Salter defines "dual-threat." Across his four seasons at Liberty (2021-24) and two-plus years as its starting quarterback, Salter was an electric rusher who did his share of damage in the air. Prior to an underwhelming 2024 campaign by Salter's standards, he totaled 2,876 passing yards, 32 passing touchdowns, six interceptions and a 176.6 passer rating, while completing 61.0% of his passes in 2023. Salter's passing touchdown total and passer rating each led Conference USA. He also rushed for 1,089 yards and 12 touchdowns. The senior quarterback is expected to be Colorado's 2025 starter, and he'll add a rushing dimension that the program hasn't had in recent memory.
The Utes want to impose their will up front and have the running game reap the benefits. Well, a quarterback who rushes like nobody's business would fit that model, wouldn't it? In his sophomore season at New Mexico (2024), Dampier totaled 2,768 passing yards, 12 passing touchdowns, 12 interceptions and a 121.6 passer rating, while completing 57.9% of his passes. At the same time, he rushed for 1,166 yards and 19 touchdowns on a Mountain West-high 7.5 yards per carry. Each of Dampier's aforementioned rushing totals would've led the Utes last season. Utah is coming off a season that saw it fail to attain bowl eligibility for the first time in a full season since 2013 – the Utes only played five games in the 2020 season, which was a truncated season in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Murphy was a five-star quarterback recruit at Texas, making two starts for the Longhorns in his 2023 freshman campaign. Then, he transferred to Duke for the 2024 season and transferred to Beaver Land thereafter. In what was his first season as a full-time starter (2024), Murphy, who has showcased a strong arm, totaled 2,933 passing yards, 26 passing touchdowns, 12 interceptions and a 133.5 passer rating, while completing 60.3% of his passes in 12 starts, of which the Blue Devils went 9-3. The 6-foot-5 quarterback joins an Oregon State team that's coming off a 5-7 season and entering its second season under head coach Trent Bray.
His departure was ugly, but, nevertheless, Iamaleava departed Knoxville for L.A. after his first season as the team's starter. In said season, Iamaleava totaled 2,616 passing yards, 19 passing touchdowns, five interceptions and a 145.3 passer rating, while completing 63.8% of his passes. He also rushed for 358 yards and three touchdowns. Tennessee went 10-2 and reached the College Football Playoff before losing to Ohio State in the first round. The sophomore quarterback, who redshirted one season and is from the Greater Los Angeles Area, joins a Bruins team that went 5-7 in their first year under head coach and former school running back Deshaun Foster.
Morris lived in various parts of Texas throughout his childhood, which was followed by playing one season at Oklahoma (2020), three at TCU (2021-23) and one at North Texas (2024). After essentially living his entire life in the heart of Big 12 country, Morris is now in I-95 territory. Last season was Morris' best piece of work, as the quarterback totaled 3,774 passing yards, 31 passing touchdowns, 12 interceptions and a 140.1 passer rating, while completing 62.9% of his passes. His passing yards and passing touchdown total each led the AAC. Morris also rushed for 242 yards and four touchdowns. The sixth-year quarterback is under center for a Virginia program that hasn't been bowl eligible in four years.
Across his two seasons at California in 2023 and 2024, Mendoza showcased an ability to sling the rock with efficiency. Last year, he totaled 3,004 passing yards, 16 passing touchdowns, six interceptions and a 144.6 passer rating, while completing 68.7% of his passes. Entering his junior season, the 6-foot-5 signal-caller will be under center for an Indiana program that was the breakout team of 2024, finishing 11-2 and making an appearance in the College Football Playoff in what was its first year under head coach Curt Cignetti.
One year ago, Beck looked like a shoo-in to be a top-10 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but a lot can change in one season of college football, as Beck ended up transferring from Georgia to Miami after leading the SEC with 12 interceptions and suffering a season-ending elbow injury in the SEC Championship Game. However, he still threw for a career-high 28 touchdowns. The year prior, Beck totaled an SEC-high 3,941 passing yards and completed 72.4% of his passes. The 6-foot-4 Beck has a strong arm, methodically brought the Bulldogs down the field and can use his legs when needed. He replaces 2024 Heisman Trophy finalist and the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Cam Ward, under center for Miami, which went 10-3 last season.
Arguably the best quarterback in the portal set up shop in Norman, Oklahoma, for a season where head coach Brent Venables is likely on the hot seat after the Sooners posted their second losing campaign in his three years on the job. As for Venables' new quarterback, Mateer shined in his first season as Washington State's starter in 2024, totaling 3,139 passing yards, 29 passing touchdowns, seven interceptions and a 164.1 passer rating, while completing 64.6% of his passes. He also rushed for 826 yards and 15 touchdowns. Mateer, who led the Cougars in both passing yards and rushing yards, helped Washington State to an 8-4 record before entering the portal.

Seven Super Sports Resorts For Upping Your Game
From marathons and triathlons to auto rallies and amateur golf tournaments, traveling to participate in sporting events has become increasingly popular in recent years. And so have sports resorts, places where you can learn or improve a particular athletic skill that also offer great accommodation, amazing food, and maybe even a bit of evening entertainment. First and foremost, the top resorts are renowned for their top-notch courses, courts, and other facilities. But they also offer coaching, equipment and modern high-tech equipment that helps you improve your technique. Here are a couple of the best resorts for certain sports. Spring Mountain Motor Resort (Auto Racing) If you've got the need for speed, this multi-track facility an hour's drive west of the Las Vegas Strip is nirvana. Numerous track configurations include the longest road course in North America (6.1 miles), as well as a karting complex. Among the outfits that utilize these tracks are the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School, Cadillac V-Performance Academy, and Radical Racing Academy. Casitas arrayed around a small lake provide overnight accommodation. Like other high-end motor racing resorts around the globe — like the Magarigawa Club in Japan and Black Rock Motor Resort in Australia — Spring Mountain is largely reserved for club members. But the resort does offer public driving days when nonmembers can test their mettle on the tracks. Beaches (Pickleball) Paddle in paradise is the theme of the Beaches, which now offers all-inclusive pickleball vacations at its oceanfront resorts in Jamaica and Turks & Caicos. In partnership with USA Pickleball, the resorts offer multiple (lighted) courts, equipment for those who didn't pack their own, daily open play, partner matching for solo players, group and private lessons, and a weekly tournament. There are also beginner sessions for grown-ups, teens, and children. Like any other guest at a Beaches resort, pickleball players can indulge in all-you-can-eat meals and butler service, swimming pools and waterpark, scuba diving and paddleboarding, tennis, yoga and kid's games. Rancho la Puerta (Running) Located just over the border, this renowned health and wellness resort in Baja California hosts a world-class running program that caters to everyone from beginners and advanced. The program includes guided indoor cardio workouts, various levels of drills and interval training, and running trails through the surrounding semi-desert wilderness that range from three to nine miles. Complementing the daily offerings are week-long trail running camps during which ultra-experienced trail runners teach basic form, as well as uphill and downhill skills, and tips on gear and safety. Founded in 1940, the resort also offers farm-to-table cuisine, spa and wellness treatments, and roomy casitas with traditional Mexican furnishings and art. Kiawah Resort (Tennis) Roy Barth, a veteran of all four Grand Slam tournaments as a singles and doubles player, founded the tennis academy at this South Carolina paradise island retreat. The complex features 22 total courts including 10 Har-Tru clay courts, plus a range of group and private lessons for adults and juniors, beginners and veterans trying to improve their game. The weekly schedule includes backhand, forehand and net play drills, serve and volley clinics. Among the available packages are women's tennis weekends instruction and round-robin play. Players have a choice of staying at Kiawah Island Golf Resort or The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island. Four Seasons Papagayo (Surfing) If price is no object and you really want to learn how to surf, this posh Costa Rican resort has created SurfX, a beachfront program that includes personal instruction, advice on which boards are best for you, and après surf activities like massage, meditation and flow exercises. There's also the option of a day-long surfing safari with your instructors that includes a visit to a local surfboard shaping workshop and a chance to hit the waves at Playa Avellanas and Playa Tamarindo. There's also a unique 'surf skate' program that teaches adults and kids skateboard moves that can also be applied to surfing. Gleneagles (Golf) Since the first duffers teed off in 1924, this Scottish course has gained repute as one of the world's top golf spots. Part of its allure is playing in the country where golf was invented in the 15th century. But there are also three championship courses which have hosted the likes of the Ryder Cup and Solheim Cup. There's also a chance to stay in a hotel that could easily pass for a castle, a luxurious five-star abode with rooms overlooking the scenic Perthshire countryside and spacious self-catering lodges. The resort's PGA National Academy offers instruction for both beginners and veterans for individuals or groups of up to four players. There's also 10- and 18-hole 'course tuition' with a PGA qualified pro who plays a round with you. Omni La Costa Resort (Multi-Sport) Located around a half-an-hour drive north of downtown San Diego, La Costa offers a range of sporting facilities and instruction. As the past host of championship golf and tennis tournaments, the resort offers two 18-hole courses and a dozen tennis courts (including four clay courts and a tournament stadium). La Costa's group fitness classes span everything from yoga, spin, and Pilates to power boxing, high intensity interval training, and cardiovascular boot camp. The resort also offers eight swimming pools, pickleball courts, and guided bike tours along the nearby Pacific coast. Chefs Emily Brubaker — who recently won the Yes, Chef! television cooking competition hosted by Martha Stewart and José Andrés — and Cameron Dixon lead an all-star kitchen staff at the resort steak house and upscale VUE restaurant.

Matt Leinart On What He Considers To Be A ‘Successful Season' For The USC Trojans
Matt Leinart knows the Lincoln Riley-led USC Trojans need to start making an impact this season. After the Trojans went 11-3 during Riley's first season in 2022, they've declined over the past two seasons to middling results. USC went 8-5 during the 2023 season and 7-6 last year in their first season in the re-aligned Big Ten Conference. While it's highly unlikely the Trojans move on from Riley anytime soon — his buyout is worth $88 million — Leinart says that Riley is on the "hot seat" entering the 2025 season. The Trojans great and former Heisman Trophy winner wants his alma mater to improve from last season and win more than eight games. The two-time National Champion says USC doesn't necessarily need to make it to the playoffs to have a "successful" season, but they need to show improvement and learn how to finish games. "This feels like the year where we might be able to make a run," says Leinart in a one-on-one interview. "Is getting to the playoff the only definition that is (a successful season), I don't think so. But you want to see the improvement from last year, you got to win more than eight games. You have to be hyper competitive in the big ones, you don't want to take any steps back. You got to learn how to finish games." USC is obviously in a stacked conference as one of the two superpower conferences in college football. The Ohio State Buckeyes are the defending national champions, the Penn State Nittany Lions advanced to the college football playoff semifinals and the Oregon Ducks entered as the top-seeded team in the playoffs after an unbeaten regular season. However, it's worth noting that with the exception of the Nittany Lions, all of those aforementioned teams have new quarterbacks. The Trojans will return their starting quarterback from last season in Jayden Maiava. Maiava started the last four games last season, including lead the team to a 35-31 win in their bowl game over the Texas A&M Aggies. "You're not going to win every game, and maybe you do, but you don't need to win every game to get into a playoff so you don't want to see any steps back." says Leinart. "The biggest thing for me with USC is, when you watch them last year, they were in almost every game. They were winning almost every game in the third or fourth quarter, and then they fell apart. Whether it was offense, whether it was defense, maybe it was Lincoln at times. Everybody has a role. I want to see that fixed." It's worth mentioning the Trojans had five one-possession losses last season. In other words, Leinart's message that they need to learn how to close out games rings true. "I want to see them close out a game," says Leinart. "I want to see them make a tackle on third down to get off the field. I want to see them run the ball more to win a game, four-minute offense, let's run the ball, control the clock and win this game. I want to see those things. I think I speak for a lot of USC fans, or just college football fans, those are the things that I want to see that I feel like, 'Oh, we're doing that.'" The Trojans aren't even ranked in the preseason AP Top 25 polls, but they're expected to be a threat in the Big Ten. After the likes of the Buckeyes, Nittany Lions and Ducks, USC is arguably the fourth or fifth-best team in the conference alongside the Michigan Wolverines. Their toughest matchups of the season are back-to-back matchups against the Michigan Wolverines and Notre Dame Fighting Irish at the midseason point. They'll also travel to Eugene, Oregon to face the Ducks towards the end of the season. If they can learn how to close out games — and win two of those three games — the sky could be the limit for this team, with a potential College Football Playoff berth looming. "We're on the right path, and we have the No. 1 recruiting class next year," says Leinart. "USC is starting to get the guys. Now it's, can you improve upon that?" Leinart will forever be known for his legendary Trojans career — he led a 34-game win streak and went 37-2 as a starting quarterback — but he's enjoying his post-football career life. The 42-year-old is well-known among the current generation of fans for his work as a college football analyst on Fox Sports 1. He also hosts a podcast called "Throwbacks" with former Entourage star Jerry Ferrara. However, he continues to remain active athletically, picking up pickleball as one of the sports he plays on a routine basis. Leinart actually recently played against 11-time Professional Pickleball Association champion Callie Jo Smith in a game of pickleball. Playing pickleball and continuing to have the proper nutrition are what helps the 42-year-old stay "strong" as he continues to get older. One of the nutrition supplements that Leinart leans on is Abbott's Ensure Max Protein shake. The Trojans great details how you suffer eight percent muscle loss each decade after turning 40 years old and it's a big reason why he decided to partner with Ensure Max Protein. Ensure Max Protein is the official protein shake of the PPA. "For me personally, something I learned in this partnership that kind of hit me was, when you turn 40, you can lose up to 8% of your muscle every decade," says Leinart. "If you think about that, you're like, 'Wow. that's a pretty incredible number. What am I doing to make sure that doesn't happen and Ensure Max protein has become a big part of that. Just to get the proper protein, 30 grams of protein, the vitamins, all that stuff, is super important." The former Trojans quarterback stresses wanting to stay "ahead" of that muscle loss curve by staying active physically and eating and drinking the right nutrients. "I still feel young, I'm active, I'm still exercising," says Leinart. "Do I still lift weights and do all of these things? But how do I kind of get ahead of that. How do I maintain the muscles? What are things that I can do? "Make sure you have this with you with Ensure Max protein because it can help," Leinart continues to say. "In the last year or two, it's really kind of just become a part of my everyday regimen. I'm on the go a lot. To be able to have Ensure Max Protein with me on the go, that's huge, because sometimes you get lost in schedules and routines and all that, you forget to eat lunch. It's been a big key and a game changer for me." Leinart says pickleball is a sport he really started picking up back in 2021 for the "social" and "competitive" aspects that he loved while playing the game of football. "I love pickleball, it kind of checks a lot of boxes for me," says Leinart. "As far as the social part, the competitive part, the exercise part, all those things. It's been a lot of fun to learn and play." He says he joined a pro pickleball team called the New Jersey Fives and started to understand why pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the country. Leinart mentions that his wife plays it and that he himself will play pickleball for as long as he "can play it." Leinart still plays golf and basketball but that pickleball is a "new challenge" for him, which is why he loves it so much. "Pickleball was something that was really new to me," says Leinart. "This is new to me, it's a challenge, right? This gets my competitive juices flowing. It's a fun game that I can play with my wife. We can play against our friends, you can play couples and you can have fun doing it. Or you can get into tournaments, local tournaments. You can play competitively. It's just one of those games that's a lot easier to do in that sense."
