No change in three-examination system for SSLC and PUC, says department of school education and literacy
In a social media post, minister Madhu Bangarappa said: "There is no change in the present annual exam 2 and exam 3 system for both SSLC and II PUC students.
These exams will continue as per the existing policy.
Furthermore, there have been no discussions to withdraw the current three-exam system." The minister's post is in response to news reports that said these exams could be withdrawn.
The education department began the three-examination system for students to improve their scores or pass the exam in case they could not do it on the first attempt. The best of the marks are considered.

Plus One applicants from north Kerala districts get short shrift this year too
Even as Plus One admissions drew to a close in Kerala, a large number of applicants from north Kerala districts and Thrissur have not been able to secure seats of their choice. Data sourced from the Education department by Malabar Education Movement, a Kozhikode-based non-governmental organisation, show that even after the 30% marginal increase in seats announced by the government, there is a gap of 53,996 seats between the number of applicants and the seats available in higher secondary and vocational higher secondary streams, Industrial Training Institutes (ITI), and polytechnic colleges. A total of 4.22 lakh students in the State became eligible for higher studies when the SSLC exam results were announced. The total number of seats available across districts is 3.85 lakh. There were 2,46,879 applicants from the north Kerala districts and Thrissur, where only 1,92,883 seats are available. The crisis is most severe in Malappuram district. Though 79,152 students became eligible for higher studies there, only 52,750 seats are available across streams. K. Abdul Nassar and O. Akshay Kumar, members of the organisation, say that even those who get seats are forced to sit in congested classrooms. Though the National Education Policy and various expert committees appointed by the State government suggest that each classroom should accommodate only 30 to 50 students, 65 to 72 students are found studying in classrooms in north Kerala's higher secondary schools. Mr. Nassar and Mr. Akshay point out that there are fewer science batches in the north Kerala districts compared with other regions. The Education department has been announcing temporary batches for the past five years to address the shortage in Plus One seats, but no steps are taken to make them permanent. Though some of the vacant Plus One batches from the southern districts are shifted here in recent years, teachers' posts are not transferred along with them. This defeats the whole purpose of the shifting, they add.

Union minister dedicates PM SHRI school in Hubballi

The various programmes launched under the PM SHRI Yojana to provide education through modern technology are of utmost importance. PM SHRI govt model school in Amargol, established in 1865, underwent a major transformation into a hi-tech model institution under the PM SHRI Yojane and was dedicated to the nation, demonstrating all saturation components. SDMC president Manjunath Soogi said six classrooms were in a dilapidated condition and needed to be demolished. In this regard, PWD instructed the demolition. He demanded that the classrooms be demolished and grants be sanctioned for the construction of classrooms for smooth education. Hubballi Rural block education officer (BEO) Umesh Bammakkanavar told TOI that they requested HDMC to make arrangements for the cleaning of school toilets under its limit, as the department is facing problems in maintaining the toilets. Grants for the maintenance of the school are very limited. If HDMC takes this responsibility, then the school grants will be saved, he said. Speaking to TOI, the HDMC mayor, Jyothi Patil, said that the school management demanded toilet rooms for the schools. Toilet rooms will be provided. The HDMC is planning for waterless urinals. This can be extended to school, she added.

Writers, progressive thinkers oppose reduction of SSLC pass percentage in Karnataka
Writers, progressive thinkers, and educationists have opposed the reduction of the pass percentage in Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) exams in Karnataka from 35 to 33. Writers K. Marulasiddappa, S.G. Siddaramaiah; progressive thinkers K.S. Vimala, Babu Mathew, Janagere Venkataramaiah, Sripada Bhat, K.M. Vishwanath Marathur, educationists V.P. Niranjanaradhya, and others have written a letter to the Chief Minister expressing concern that the quality of education will decline due to this decision of the School Education Department. They also urged the State government for withdrawal of the recent gazette notification in this regard. According to the new rules, the students will pass SSLC exam if they get a minimum of 30 marks out of 100 in a subject. This means that if a student scores 20 out of 20 in the internal exam, and only 10 out of 80 in the external exam, the student will be declared as pass. 'Many students who scored 20 out of 20 in the internals during the last examination, did not get the minimum marks in the external exam. We don't understand the quality index in place here, where the benchmark of true quality of learning is an external test, and scoring just 10 marks in it is enough,' they argued.
