Vierumäki (Finland), Aug 15 (PTI) Saptak Talwar started his campaign at the Vierumäki Finnish Challenge with a score of 1-over 73 to be placed Tied 104th, here.
Fresh off his best finish in the Hotel Planner Tour just last week at the Irish Challenge Saptak has a fair bit of ground to cover to make the cut.
The leader after the first round was Alvaro Hernandez Cabezuela with a score of 9-under 63.
The Spaniard has yet to make the cut in the Hotel Planner Tour this year and would be hoping to make the most of his strong start in Finland.
South African Wilco Nienaber, Scotsman David Law, Englishmen Josh Berry and George Mason and Dutch duo Vince van Veen and Lars van Meijel share fifth position on seven under par. PTI Corr AT AT AT

Maxwell powers Australia to T20 series-clinching win over South Africa
Glenn Maxwell's unbeaten half-century led Australia to a sensational two-wicket win over South Africa in the final T20 and clinched the series 2-1 on Saturday (August 16, 2025). With four needed off the final two balls, Maxwell reverse swiped Lungi Ngidi to third and stayed unbeaten on 62 off 36 balls as Australia reached 173-8 and denied South Africa its maiden T20 series win in Australia. Young T20 batting sensation Dewald Brevis had earlier made 53 off 26 balls that featured four sixes in one over off Aaron Hardie before Australia pulled back nicely and restricted the Proteas at 172-7. Both teams observed a minute of silence before the game and paid tribute to former Australia captain and coach Bob Simpson, who died at the age of 89. Captain Mitchell Marsh (54), who won the toss and elected to chase, and Travis Head had provided Australia a strong start of 66-1 in eight overs but South Africa stormed back with four wickets in four overs. Head couldn't capitalize on an opportunity when South Africa skipper Aiden Markram couldn't hold onto a tough return catch but the left-handed Head spooned an easy catch to short fine leg in the same over. Josh Inglis recovered from illness after missing out the last game but was clean bowled by Corbin Bosch off the first ball he faced. But Kwena Maphaka dealt a twin blow when both Marsh and Cameron Green couldn't clear the fielders in the outfield as Australia slipped to 88-4 in the 11th over. Experienced fast bowler Kagiso Rabada then removed Tim David and Hardie in one over as Australia further slipped to 122-6 before Maxwell farmed the strike and shielded Ben Dwarshuis from the South African pacers. Dwarshuis contributed just 1 off six balls in a partnership of 41 with Maxwell as the power-hitter didn't let the asking rate shoot up. With 12 needed off the last two overs, Bosch once again turned the game around with the wickets of Dwarshuis and Nathan Ellis off successive balls before Maxwell sealed the game by smashing two boundaries. 'It was a little bit nerve wracking,' Maxwell said after hitting eight fours and two sixes in his player-of-the-match knock. 'When we lost a couple of wickets in a row, Corbin Bosch bowled a brilliant over to sort of keep the run rate near 9 or 10 … and I probably had to do the majority of the striking, but it was it was nice to get a couple out of the middle [of the bat] right near the end.' Earlier, Brevis' dismissal in the 12th over proved crucial for South Africa when Maxwell plucked a stunning diving catch at wide mid-on to end another blistering knock from a 22-year-old batter as the Proteas could add further 62 off the final 50 balls. Brevis hit six sixes and raised his half-century off just 22 balls when he smacked Hardie for four consecutive sixes before he was undone by Ellis' short ball and Maxwell took a blinder. Ellis picked up 3-31 while Adam Zampa (2-24) also squeezed the runs in the middle overs and Josh Hazlewood chipping away with 2-30.G

Star Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell made honest admission after playing an impressive match-winning knock in the third and final T20I against South Africa at Cazaly's Stadium, Cairns on Saturday. Chasing 173 for victory, Australia were in deep trouble at 122/6, before Maxwell took charge and produced another piece of run-chasing brilliance. The big-hitting Aussie star played an unbeaten knock (62 off 36 balls) with the help of eight fours and two sixes at a strike-rate of 172.22. As the equation came down to four required from two balls, Maxwell finished the job with a trademark reverse sweep six off the match's penultimate ball and guided Australia to a series victory. After his match-winning knock, the 36-year-old said that it was nerve-wracking in the middle when Australia lost a couple of wickets in a row. "It was nerve-wracking when we lost a couple of wickets in a row. Corbin Bosch bowled a brilliant over. To keep the run-rate near 9 or 10, we were down to two wickets, I had to keep the majority of the strike," said Maxwell in the post-match presentation. "Nice to get a couple out of the middle right at the end. I just stay calm, watch the ball, try and not preempt too much, understand the areas where I can get the boundaries and where I can get the twos. Just tried to stay on strike as much as possible," he added. The veteran all-rounder mentioned that the series win against South Africa is a confidence booster for Australia before the 2026 T20 World Cup. "We've had a great run with this T20 group. To have another series win against a quality opposition in South African is great for our confidence heading forward. There's still about 13-14 internationals before the T20 World Cup and we are building something really nice in this group. It's certainly a very fun change room to be in and I am enjoying every moment," said Maxwell. Form comes and goes but I feel like the lot of work I have been doing, it's been contributing to success for this team. We have got so many different people who can contribute, so I'm happy to be part of that at the moment.

NorthEast United outclass Bodoland to set up repeat Shillong clash in semifinal
Kokrajhar (Assam) [India], August 16 (ANI): Defending champions NorthEast United FC produced a commanding performance to overpower Bodoland FC 4-0 in front of a packed SAI Stadium, marching into the semi-finals of the 134th Durand Cup. Moroccan striker Alaaeddine Ajaraie struck a brace, while Spaniard Andy Garcia and substitute Parthib Gogoi added their names to the scoresheet, as the Highlanders set up a mouthwatering last-four clash against Shillong Lajong FC, as per a release from Durand Panthi fielded a settled 4-2-3-1 lineup with Diamary in goal and Robinson leading the line, supported by Pranjal and Gwgwmsar Gayary on the flanks. NEUFC head coach Juan Pedro Benali, reverting to his strong XI after resting players in the group finale, deployed his familiar 4-3-3 with skipper Miguel Zabaco marshalling the backline, Gurmeet Singh in goal, and a potent frontline of Ajaraie, Jithin MS, and opening quarter-hour saw both teams exchange blows in a frenetic, end-to-end contest. Robinson, Pranjal, and Urjoy Brahma tested Gurmeet at one end, while Ajaraie, Lalrinzuala, and Andy forced Diamary into sharp saves at the other.
