Complaints were also received from citizens regarding bribery in the issuance of medico-legal certificates (MLCs). In response, the minister ordered the formation of an audit team and the transfer of doctors posted in the MLC unit.
He ordered an investigation into the record of medicines provided to patients over the past six months. He enquired from patients about the availability of medical services and medicines.
The minister also expressed anger over poor sanitary conditions in the hospital and ordered strict action against those responsible.
Departmental action was also ordered against a lady doctor found absent from duty.
The minister emphasised that regular feedback would be taken from his team regarding service delivery and action would be taken against unnecessary referral of patients to other cities.
Speaking to the media, Khawaja Imran Nazir announced that an Emergency Response Programme will be launched in all district and tehsil-level hospitals in the province within the next three months to modernise and enhance emergency services.
He added that doctors' attendance is being strictly monitored and a system of reward and punishment has been implemented to ensure accountability.
On this occasion, MPA Khan Bahadur Dogar and Assistant Commissioner Rungzaib Goraya accompanied the minister.
Meanwhile, Khawaja Imran Nazir and Speacialised healthcare Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique issued directives during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Infectious Diseases to provide staff of Population Welfare Clinics to anti-dengue teams in high-risk areas.
Khawaja Imran said that in view of the recent rains, work should be done on an emergency basis to prevent the spread of dengue across the province. He said cooperative housing societies need to remain active for the purpose, water should not stagnate at construction sites and attendance of field staff should be ensured.
He said more hard work is required in the dengue season this year as compared to the past. Surveillance should specially be conducted in junkyards and graveyards.

Health projects: Punjab introduces new monitoring system
LAHORE: In line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Department of Health and Population has introduced a robust and centralized monitoring system to ensure transparent, accountable and timely execution of health-related development projects across the province. Going forward, all health sector initiatives will be monitored and evaluated through the department's Monitoring and Evaluation Directorate, which will track project implementation, assess performance, and ensure alignment with provincial health priorities. A high-level meeting, chaired by Provincial Minister for Health and Population Khawaja Imran Nazir was held at the department's headquarters. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Punjab Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Chairman Planning and Development Board Naeem Rauf, Secretary Health and Population Nadia Saqib, and other senior officials. To ensure uninterrupted oxygen supply at public hospitals, the meeting decided to establish 13 new oxygen feeders. This move will support 145 district and tehsil headquarters hospitals (DHQs and THQs), enabling them to receive over 44,000 oxygen cylinders per month, thus enhancing emergency and critical care capacity across Punjab. Khawaja Imran Nazir directed all vertical programs to submit detailed annual performance reports. He emphasized that as per the Chief Minister's instructions, routine and rigorous evaluations would be conducted to assess progress and impact. He reaffirmed the provincial leadership's commitment to healthcare reform, stating: 'Providing quality healthcare at the doorstep of every citizen is Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's foremost priority.' The minister also highlighted that the revamping of more than 4,000 health facilities is underway and progressing at a steady pace. Chief Secretary Punjab Zahid Akhtar Zaman stressed the importance of effective monitoring mechanisms to ensure timely completion and quality delivery of health projects. He reiterated that reform efforts in the healthcare system are ongoing and that the Monitoring and Evaluation Directorate would be further strengthened for improved oversight. He also issued directives for the verification of household registration data under the Community Health Inspector Program, calling for greater data integrity and on-ground accountability. The meeting reviewed progress on several flagship initiatives, including Maryam Nawaz Health Clinics, Community Health Inspector Program, establishment of blood centers in Lahore, Okara, Muzaffargarh, and Jhelum and setting up of Cath labs in Attock, Jhang, Jhelum, Layyah, Mianwali, Kasur, Vehari, and Bahawalnagar. The officials briefed that the Community Health Inspector Program is being implemented in two phases, with the geo-tagging of over 530,000 households already completed in the first phase. 4-year BS nursing programme: UHS launches new ‘COMPASS' curriculum
LAHORE: In a move to elevate nursing education in Punjab, the University of Health Sciences (UHS) Friday launched its new "COMPASS" curriculum for the four-year BS Nursing programme. The event was presided over by the Provincial Minister for Specialised Healthcare & Medical Education Khawaja Salman Rafique and Minister for Health and Population Khawaja Imran Nazir, who jointly unveiled the curriculum on the UHS's website. The COMPASS curriculum—an acronym for Competency-based, Outcome-based, Multicultural, Patient-centered, Assessment, Skills, and Safety—represents a bold departure from traditional instruction, introducing a modern, block-based and spiral model of nursing education. Under the new structure, students will divide their week equally between classrooms and hospitals—three days each—beginning clinical exposure from the very first year. Clinical hours have been increased from 35 to 54, while students will now complete 72 rigorously designed courses and master over 200 clinical skills by graduation. Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Salman Rafique described COMPASS as 'not merely a new curriculum, but a vision for a stronger, more empowered nursing profession.' He said the Punjab government considers nursing reform a top priority and is committed to supporting the academic and professional growth of nurses through meaningful initiatives. He said that 3,000 nurses have been recruited in the current year and that public nursing colleges have added 1,400 new seats by launching evening classes aimed at meeting growing healthcare demands. Khawaja Imran Nazir lauded the new curriculum as a timely response to global challenges in healthcare, saying, 'Our nurses are the frontline heroes of this system. With COMPASS, we are giving them the skills, ethics, and cultural sensitivity required to perform at international standards.' He added that this transformation will not only boost technical competence but also instill empathy and leadership in future nurses. In recognition of the academic effort behind the curriculum, the minister announced an honorarium equivalent to two months' salary for the faculty team involved in its development. The vice-chancellor UHS, Prof Dr. Ahsan Waheed Rathore, emphasized that the curriculum embodies the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and marks a revolutionary leap in healthcare education. He noted that the integration of classroom learning with early, extensive clinical rotations would help transform students into well-rounded, compassionate health professionals with strong critical thinking and patient-centered care capabilities. He also announced that UHS will carry out unannounced visits each semester to affiliated colleges to monitor implementation and uphold quality standards. Dr. Lamia Yusuf, Assistant Professor at UHS's Department of Medical Education explained that students will be taught in a progressive, spiral format over eight semesters, with increasing complexity in course content.
