KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 (Bernama) -- The new Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) headquarters, known as Olympic House, is expected to be completed by 2028.
OCM president Tan Sri Mohd Norza Zakaria said work on the RM97 million building is set to commence at the end of this year, pending approval from local authorities.
"I think, in terms of construction, it will take 36 months and involve two phases. The first phase is the main building, while the second phase includes a banquet hall and a hotel… we will do our best.

"We've already received the green light from Minister of Youth and Sports Hannah Yeoh for the groundbreaking ceremony, which we hope to hold at the end of July. From there, we will begin the submission process to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to obtain the necessary building approval," he said.
He was speaking to reporters after opening the Olympic Day celebration at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil here today.
Also present were Malaysia Stadium Corporation (PSM) chairman Datin Anita Azrina Abdul Aziz and OCM deputy president Datuk Nur Azmi Ahmad.
Mohd Norza also said that OCM will collaborate with PSM to expedite the construction of the Olympic House.
"Phase one can be accelerated, and it very much depends on this strategic collaboration.
"That is why it is important for all of us - OCM, PSM and all 58 national sports associations - to be aligned and follow the same timeline," he said.

RM100,000 boost for RXZ Members 7.0 activities in Terengganu

KUALA LUMPUR: The initial allocation of RM100,000 to support the organisation of RXZ Members 7.0 2025 Programme will be fully utilised to ensure that the event runs smoothly, safely, and has a high impact. Programme director Mohd Lukhman Nooralazhar expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the allocation. He said they will also ensure that the programme brings significant benefits to the people while uplifting the nation's image. 'This also serves as a motivational boost to the organisers, participants, and motorcycle enthusiasts to make this event a success, which is expected to attract tens of thousands of visitors nationwide. 'We believe the government's support not only elevates RXZ Members 7.0 as a national iconic event, but also provides economic benefit to the local community through the tourism, hospitality, food, and retail sectors,' he said when contacted by Bernama today. Yesterday, Anwar announced the funding for the RXZ Members 7.0 2025 Programme, set to take place on Aug 23 at the Gong Badak Motorsport Circuit in Terengganu. The Prime Minister said the government's support recognises the motoring community as a catalyst for unity, strengthening relationships, and significantly contributing to local economic development through various impactful activities. Activities scheduled for the two-day event include the RXZ Members Talk Programme with Ustaz Azhar Idrus, merchandise and food stalls, as well as lucky draws for motorcycles and Umrah packages. Also featured will be a Motorshow and Dyno Battle competition, a Celebrity and Influencer Convoy to RXZ Members, including Rosyam Nor, Pablo Amirul, and professional motorcycle racer Wazi Abdul Hamid. In addition, various performances by local artistes, including Zamani from Slam, will take place, while the closing ceremony will be enlivened with the raising of the Jalur Gemilang, as well as prize-giving ceremonies for competitions and the RXZ Members 7.0 2025 grand prize. Meanwhile, Wazi, the former national motor racing champion, said the funding would benefit motorsport enthusiasts and encourage domestic tourism in Terengganu. 'Perhaps the government views this from a different perspective to ensure the continuity of the programme, but the organisation of this event needs to be further refined to avoid incidents that occurred in previous editions,' he said. He urged motorsport fans to take advantage of the government's support to ensure their gatherings are beneficial while also shaping themselves into courteous and responsible motorcyclists on the road. – Bernama

Malaysia considers e-sports as long-term university course amid addiction concerns

KUALA LUMPUR: The Youth and Sports Ministry will hold discussions with the Higher Education Ministry to make e-sports a long term course at universities. Efforts to develop talent in e-sports have already begun through short-term courses by the National Sports Association with the cooperation of the National Youth and Sports Department. Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh noted that many have begun viewing e-sports as a career after Selangor Red Giants won and returned with great prize money in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang competitions. She expressed concern as parents about gadget addiction being a serious problem in Malaysia and the need to find balance in this matter. A recent study by a Universiti Teknologi MARA lecturer revealed a psychological gap among youth, especially mental readiness that required serious attention. The study proved it was vital to ensure youth participation in e-sports would not affect their focus on academics and their social well-being. Hannah also addressed her ministry's efforts to connect its Technical and Vocational Education and Training programmes with industry needs and developments. She confirmed her ministry was taking steps in that direction but challenges remain, including ensuring teachers had the expertise suited to the respective industries. Pioneer projects are starting for institutions in the sports field, not only motorsports but aviation sports that are being developed with the use of AI. – Bernama
