'Thug Life' box office collection day 10 (live): Kamal Haasan hopes to revive during weekend
Kamal Haasan 's much-hyped action drama Thug Life opened in theatres to much fanfare, drawing crowds for its grand visuals and intense storyline. Directed by Mani Ratnam , the film had a stellar pre-release buzz for its stellar supporting cast, which includes Silambarasan, Trisha, Nasser, Abhirami, Ashok Selvan, and Joju George among others. Released in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi, the film drew attention, especially in Tamil Nadu. However, the movie received a mixed response from critics and audiences alike, leading to a noticeable dip in footfall after its opening day. A roller coaster box office ride 'Thug Life' opened with an impressive ₹15.5 crore net on Day 1, driven mainly by Tamil Nadu's response (₹13.35 Cr), as per Sacnilk. However, collections dipped sharply on Day 2 to ₹7.15 Cr, indicating mixed word-of-mouth. The weekend showed some recovery with ₹7.75 Cr on Saturday, followed by ₹6.5 Cr on Sunday. But the film saw a major crash on its first Monday with just ₹2.3 Cr. By the end of its first week, 'Thug Life' had managed to collect ₹44 crore net in India, a decent figure but below expectations for a Kamal Haasan film of this scale. Theater occupancy has been low, with Tamil 2D screenings recording around 15% on Day 10 during morning and afternoon shows. Despite its scale and star power, the film is struggling to sustain momentum and is anticipated to gain momentum during the second weekend. Plot and controversy in Karnataka Mani Ratnam's directorial revolves around a retired gangster drawn back into the underworld to settle unfinished scores, packed with high-octane action and a layered narrative. 'Thug Life' faced a controversy in Karnataka, where certain groups objected to Kamal Haasan's Tamil-Kannada link, and the film was banned from release in the state. The next hearing of the case is to happen on June 17, and we have to wait to see whether Karnataka will help the film at the box office or not.
