Released in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi, the film drew attention, especially in Tamil Nadu. However, the movie received a mixed response from critics and audiences alike, leading to a noticeable dip in footfall after its opening day.
A roller coaster box office ride
'Thug Life' opened with an impressive ₹15.5 crore net on Day 1, driven mainly by Tamil Nadu's response (₹13.35 Cr), as per Sacnilk. However, collections dipped sharply on Day 2 to ₹7.15 Cr, indicating mixed word-of-mouth.
The weekend showed some recovery with ₹7.75 Cr on Saturday, followed by ₹6.5 Cr on Sunday. But the film saw a major crash on its first Monday with just ₹2.3 Cr. By the end of its first week, 'Thug Life' had managed to collect ₹44 crore net in India, a decent figure but below expectations for a Kamal Haasan film of this scale.
Second week drops deeper
The second week began with a further drop — earning just ₹0.75 Cr on Day 9 and ₹0.29 Cr on Day 10.
