Daniel Day-Lewis Returns in First Film Since Retiring Eight Years Ago

Daniel Day-Lewis has emerged from his retirement in a first-look photo of his new film, Anemone.
The project from Focus Features is set to have its world premiere at the The New York Film Festival —which kicks off Sept. 26th and runs through Oct. 13 — and marks the return of the three-time Oscar winner after an eight-year 'retirement.'

The film marks the feature directorial debut of Lewis' son, Ronan Day-Lewis, and was co-written by both men.
The official description of Anemone calls the film 'an absorbing family drama … about lives undone by seemingly irreconcilable legacies of political and personal violence.' Set in Northern England, the film follows a middle-aged man (Sean Bean) who 'sets out from his suburban home on a journey into the woods, where he reconnects with his estranged hermit brother (Day-Lewis). Bonded by a mysterious, complicated past, the men share a fraught, if occasionally tender relationship—one that was forever altered by shattering events decades earlier.'
Continues the description: 'An emotional powerhouse, this directorial debut is assured in both small details and grand gestures as it charts the path toward familial redemption against all odds. In addition to its unflinching lead performances, Anemone features standout supporting work from Samantha Morton and Samuel Bottomley, and sensationally expressive widescreen cinematography by Ben Fordesman.'
Anemone is Day-Lewis' first feature film since 2017's Phantom Thread. Before the film's release, the actor had issued a statement: 'Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor. He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject.'
He elaborated in an interview with W magazine, 'I knew it was uncharacteristic to put out a statement. But I did want to draw a line. I didn't want to get sucked back into another project. All my life, I've mouthed off about how I should stop acting, and I don't know why it was different this time, but the impulse to quit took root in me, and that became a compulsion. It was something I had to do … I dread to use the overused word 'artist,' but there's something of the responsibility of the artist that hung over me. I need to believe in the value of what I'm doing. The work can seem vital. Irresistible, even. And if an audience believes it, that should be good enough for me. But, lately, it isn't.'

NFL fans hoping Taylor Swift manifests Super Bowl wins for their teams: 'Math is mathin'

It's been a long time coming. The country's most famous couple is finally doing a podcast together. Taylor Swift is set to make her debut appearance on the "New Heights" podcast, which is co-hosted by her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, and his brother Jason Kelce. It's the first time Swift will be the featured guest on the podcast, which started in September 2022. The news of her appearance sent the internet (and Swifties) into a spiral, as Jason Kelce proclaimed, Swift is "the most requested guest in the history of shows." The highly anticipated podcast episode is set to air at 7 p.m. Aug. 13. However, things got more shocking when the pop superstar confirmed the release of her new album "The Life of a Showgirl" on a "New Heights" podcast teaser released at 12:12 a.m. ET Aug. 12. In the video, Swift pulled out a blurred-out album cover for her new project, stating, "This is my brand-new album, 'The Life of a Showgirl.'" "If you told me two years ago this was gonna happen, I would've laughed," one person posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, alongside a photo of Swift and Kelce during the podcast. Another user also tweeted, "The concept of ('New Heights') interns knowing about ts12 before us. This is not the word of the lord." NFL fans making Taylor Swift's new album about their team The Enquirer reacted to the TS12 news, specifically to its color being orange, by finding all the Easter eggs that prove Swift is manifesting a Cincinnati Bengals Super Bowl win. You can watch the video in the Instagram post above or in the video at the top of the page. Fans had plenty of reactions to our staff's logic, with one Instagram user saying, "I did all the girl math again…adds up," and another writing, "100% an invisible string tying us to those Super Bowl rings." The Bengals' official account also commented on TikTok: "The math is mathin'." There were, of course, some haters, though. "Wow you just made me hate all taylor swift fans," one person wrote, while someone else said, "Just saying it's also the Cleveland browns (main) color... Travis is from Cleveland heights." Here are more NFL fan reactions to Swift's upcoming album (and her "New Heights" appearance) below. Trump announces Kennedy Center honorees - including Gloria Gaynor and KISS - says he will host the Honors himself

The president also announced that he would personally host the awards ceremony in December. President Trump on Wednesday named country music star George Strait, actor Sylvester Stallone, singer Gloria Gaynor, the rock band KISS and actor-singer Michael Crawford as the first group of Kennedy Center Honorees under his leadership. He also announced that he would personally be hosting the awards program in December. Trump named himself as the chairman in February after firing the center's previous chairman and members of its board of trustees who, he said, 'do not share our Vision for a Golden Age in Arts and Culture.' He previewed his plan to announce this year's honorees in a post on Truth Social Tuesday morning, in which he also teased a potential name change for the famed Washington, D.C., cultural institution. 'GREAT Nominees for the TRUMP/KENNEDY CENTER, whoops, I mean, KENNEDY CENTER, AWARDS,' he wrote. He also suggested in the post that the center, which he said had 'fallen on hard times, physically,' would be 'back to the absolute TOP LEVEL of luxury' and 'WILL SOON BE MAKING A MAJOR COMEBACK!!!' Historically, honorees have been picked by a bipartisan committee. In a press conference announcing this year's group, Trump said he was 'about 98% involved' in the selection process and that he 'turned down plenty' of potential candidates for being 'too woke.' The Kennedy Center Honors were first established in 1978. Over the decades, stars representing a broad range of artistic disciplines have been named as honorees. Presidents traditionally attended the annual ceremony, but Trump opted not to go to any of the events during his first term after certain honorees said they would not take part if he was in the audience. Rather than keeping his distance as he did during his first four years in the White House, Trump has taken a much more active role in the center's operations than any of his predecessors. Beyond naming himself chairman, he indicated that he would be involved in deciding which acts would be asked to perform there. Several artists, including comedian Issa Rae, author Louise Penny and the cast of the Broadway musical Hamilton, canceled scheduled events at the center after Trump took over.

3-time Super Bowl champ admits he wasn't focused last season

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has earned four All-Pro selections and 10 Pro Bowl nods, leading to several media opportunities such as commercials and even a television hosting gig. However, Kelce said those side jobs may have led to him not being as focused as he should have been last season. Speaking to GQ's Sean Manning in a recent interview published Tuesday that touches on various topics from his relationship with Taylor Swift to his storied career that has included three Super Bowl wins, Kelce said he is trying to lock in more than he had in the past two seasons, which he said may have impacted his play. 'I think it might have slipped a little bit because I did have a little bit more focus in trying to set myself up,' Kelce told Manning. 'Opportunities came up where I was excited to venture into a new world of acting and being an entertainer. I don't say this as 'I shouldn't have done it.' I'm just saying that my work ethic is such that I have so much pride in how I do things that I never want the product to tail off, and I feel like these past two years haven't been to my standard. I just have such a motivation to show up this year for my guys.' Last season, Kelce's 823 receiving yards were his lowest since 2015, when he finished with 875 receiving yards. He also had 97 catches and three receiving touchdowns. Kelce and the Chiefs are trying to rebound from their 40-22 Super Bowl LIX loss to the Eagles, where Kelce was held to four catches for 39 yards.
