Twice Ties BTS With A Big New Album
Twice has ranked as one of South Korea's preeminent girl groups for years now, and the band's popularity around the world — especially in the United States — isn't dwindling, but rather, growing.
The group recently released a new album titled This Is For, which comes at the perfect moment. The many-membered singing troupe seems poised to reach the Hot 100 in a day or so with "Takedown" featured on the KPop Demon Hunter soundtrack.
This Is For doesn't quite match the same heights as some of Twice's past projects, but its arrival helps the girl group tie some of the biggest names in K-pop history for a very special record.
Twice Follows Justin Bieber and Travis Scott
This Is For launches at No. 6 on the Billboard 200. The project opens with 80,000 equivalent units, which would normally be enough for the group to approach the No. 1 spot, but this frame is particularly busy with new arrivals from stars like Justin Bieber, Travis Scott, and Clipse launching in loftier positions.
Twice scores a seventh career appearance inside the Billboard 200's top 10, and this latest collection is an important one for the group.
Twice Ties BTS, Ateez and Seventeen
With seven top 10 projects on the Billboard 200, Twice ties three other acts from the K-pop space for the most appearances inside the highest tier of all time. The girl group is now on the same level as Ateez, BTS, and Seventeen, all of which have also managed seven wins — although this ranking is sure to change soon.
BTS Will Soon Push Past Twice
When Billboard republishes its charts on Tuesday (July 29), BTS will pull ahead of Ateez, Seventeen, and Twice. The group, which recently reformed after all seven members completed their mandatory military service, recently released Permission to Dance on Stage (Live). That full-length is about to open at No. 10 on the Billboard 200, giving the troupe its eighth top 10 performer.
Twice Reaches the Top 10 on Multiple Charts
Twice's This Is For hits a trio of Billboard charts this week, and it's a top 10 win on all of them. The project opens at No. 3 on the Top Album Sales ranking and No. 4 on the Vinyl Albums list, bringing the girl group back to the highest region on both tallies and adding to an already historic cumulative total.

Octopath Traveler 0 Isn't Just a Prequel, It's a Whole New Approach
The Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase on Thursday showed trailers for some titles already announced for the Nintendo Switch 2, and revealed a few new titles as well. The biggest of those debut games is the third game in the Octopath Traveler series, Octopath Traveler 0. As the "0" implies, this game is a prequel to the first Octopath Traveler game, released on the original Switch in 2019. This turn-based RPG makes a big change to the series by allowing players to make their own protagonist instead of picking a character to play as. As the hero, players will have to rebuild their hometown and fight powerful enemies with the help of more than 30 recruitable characters. The Octopath Traveler series is a turn-based RPG, with the key feature of having eight playable characters. Each character starts from a different part of the world of Osterra and has their own unique job with abilities, and their story arc plays out and eventually meets up with the other heroes. Another trademark of the franchise is its HD-2D graphics and the Break and Boost battle system. In battles, players have their own Boost Points that can be used to quickly Break a character, so they can become unable to fight or can be saved to unleash more damage on enemies who get broken via regular attacks. The result is a turn-based RPG that has surprisingly fast combat. This new entry in the series isn't the only prequel for the franchise. In 2022, Square Enix released a free-to-play gacha game for Android and iOS called Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent. That game was a direct prequel to the first Octopath game, so it's unclear how Octopath Travel 0 will fit into the timeline. Octopath Traveler 0 will come out on Dec. 4 for the Switch and Switch 2.

GuliKit's new budget-friendly controller can wake the Switch 2
GuliKit is following the release of its $49.99 Elves 2 Pro controller last May with a slightly cheaper alternative that brings a feature that's still somewhat rare amongst third-party gamepads: remotely waking the Switch 2. The new GuliKit Elves 2 sacrifices some of the Pro's more premium features like advanced haptics, but for $29.99 — available now in translucent black or coral red — it could be a budget-friendly alternative to the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller. The Elves 2 could also appeal to gamers who prefer a symmetrical joystick layout similar to what the PlayStation's controllers use, or who still have a soft spot for the Sega Saturn gamepad. It's compatible with the original versions of the Switch, the Switch 2, as well as Windows, Android, and iOS devices. In addition to being able to wake the Switch 2, the Elves 2 has a six-axis gyroscope for motion controls like Nintendo's new Pro controller, but lacks an NFC chip for scanning Amiibos, and the dedicated chat button found on the Joy-Con 2. GuliKit says the Elves 2's battery life is rated at up to 20 hours matching the Elves 2 Pro, but other premium features missing on the cheaper alternative include button remapping, adjustable joystick sensitivity, and the ability to record and replay up to 10 minutes of button presses.
